Tom, If you haven't did it yet, try to uninstall and then install again both PDF Reader and Open Office. Then blank the fields for alternate PDF reader and Word processing on Options/Customize/Launch. Then try open the files again within legacy. Re: [LegacyUG] Vista & Legacy 7.0.0.103 problem after changing PC's
Hi Kirstin Not exactly. The Picture Gallery shows Thumbnails of photos & symbols of Documents, as you'd know. Pictures (JPG files) attach via the "Picture" button & open ok. After adding PDF files or ODT Open Office files or RTF WordPad files to the Picture Gallery by using the "File" button they will not open when I double click on the Thumbnail. After adding TXT files or Open Office files with a DOC extension by clicking on the "File" button they open perfectly. A further bit of information I've found is that going Options -> Customise -> Locations -> View Current list of Multimedia Locations -> then selecting any path -> Options -> Delete -> View List, I find the names of people with _only_ PDF, RTF, or Open Office DOC files are not there on the Path list. (In addition the Path list names is not accurate at all, some people being on the wrong path or being on a path when they have no attached pictures or documents.) I hope that makes sense, Kirstin. Regards Tom Kirstin wrote: My understanding is that you cannot open anything but pictures in the picture center. Is that where you are trying to open the PDF & doc files? Re: [LegacyUG] Vista & Legacy 7.0.0.103 problem after changing PC's
Yes, I do have Word 2003 and Word 2007 on both computers, Acrobat reader and Foxit (I intalled Foxit just this morning, didn't do anything). What I don't understanding is why one computer (XPS 1) will open the Word Document and give me the error message for the PDF file (I changed the launch to Foxit on the XPS 1, didn't want to mess with the laptop because PDF's open there). The laptop can open the PDF files but NOT the Word Documents. I even (several months ago) tried changing the defaults for the PDF files in the control panel. I have been waiting for someone else to experience this as I know it must have something to do with the computer setup. I use Dropbox to keep the Legacy database updated on both computers, but I had this problem W A Y before I started using Dropbox, so I know that isn't causing it. I do have another computer with XP on it, but don't have Legacy on it. I will load Legacy on it and see if it pulls up both DOC and PDS files. Firstly, sorry about the html email previously - I've not been on user groups for some considerable times. Further to the information below i have since realized any file attached through the "File" button cannot be opened, whether it be pdf or OpenOffice odt files. Yet some just don't open & some give the error message as below. I don't know.
