[LegacyUG] Indenting birth, marriage, death notes

2012-09-28 Thread Pat Hickin
On reports, I ordinarily like to have general notes with little indentation
as I use them in part for introductory material. On the other hand, I would
like to have birth, marriage, and death notes deeply indented.

Is there any way to accomplish this??

Yes, that's great -- I hadn't realized I could edit the wording within the

Re: [LegacyUG] Copy/paste not working from browser to Legacy, computer running Windows 7.

2012-09-28 Thread Emily Moore
I am trying to copy from genealogy sites such as Ancestry or FamilySearch
and paste into a note field or a date field or a URL field. It seems to be
an intermittent problem. Right now it is working correctly with Internet
Explorer but not with Chrome. Earlier today it was not working with IE
either.

[LegacyUG] Copy/paste not working from browser to Legacy, computer running Windows 7.

2012-09-28 Thread Emily Moore
Recently I have encountered difficulties when trying to copy and paste (either
with the mouse or control-c) from a web browser (either Chrome or IE) to
Legacy. The “paste” option is enabled so it appears that something is getting
onto the clipboard, but when I click “paste” or control-v, nothing is pasted.
This happens both for text in the browser window and for web addresses in the
address field.
Copy/paste works in Notepad and LiveMail. I found running scannow and no
errors were found. I have antivirus software which is up to date. I have
tried rebooting.I would try system restore but I am not sure how far back
to go.

Legacy’s own copy/paste (events, sources) work fine.

Any other ideas?

Re: [LegacyUG] In reports, list of noted events wording:

2012-09-28 Thread Brian/Support
The Descendant, Ancestor and Descendant Narrative reports have the
Wording 1 tab where the events wording is located. The Events
introductory sentence has the [his:her] wording. If you substitute one
of the other replaceable text options such as [fullname] then the full
name of the person will be in the introduction to the events list. I
even was able to get the report to read Noted events in Asa Clark
Brown's life were by using [fullname]'s, Note the apostrophe s added to
the replaceable text.

The marriage wording will also accept the replaceable text for couples
like [couplenames] to replace "their" and will insert the names for the
couple.

I did not test the multiple lines of descent but since that is based on
the Descendant Report I presume it will also accept replaceable text
entries.

Re: [LegacyUG] problem with unmarried

2012-09-28 Thread hwedhlor
Biology 101: In human reproduction there is always an egg
and a sperm! Whether the contributors were married,
cohabited outside of marriage, had consensual sex, used
artificial insemination, or any other means of bringing the
egg and sperm together, there was still a female who
contributed the egg and a male who contributed the sperm.
That means there were names of those contributors to enter
into Legacy, though they may not always be available to us
as researchers. How we label the relationship between the
two contributors is optional, but the method of
fertilization being something other than the classic sexual
relationship between two married heterosexual adults does
not make either contributor go away, no matter how we think
of them. There was always a mother and a father, or if you
insist, a male and a female contributor. :-)

RE: [LegacyUG] People listed in census with a family but relationship is unknown

2012-09-28 Thread Michele Lewis
What I do in this situation (when there are people listed in a household that I
am not sure who they are) is one of two things...

1) If I think they are an unrelated boarder I don't add them to my file
2) If I think that they are related somehow I add them to my file as an
unlinked individual

I attached the census event to everyone that is named in that census so I can
readily see WHY these people are in my file if I forget (when I see that I have
some unlinked person in my file)

Best guess with your situation is that these are the children of Alex and
Mary's daughter who has died. I would probably do a little quickie research to
see if I could verify this and then I could link everyone properly.

Hope I can explain this clearly enough!

I'm moving my 1850 census records over to the Sourcewriter Templates and in the
process have run into a problem in many of those records and this one in
particular. I'm not sure how to handle it so looking for advice from you more

The family is listed as follows - father (Alex Jones), mother (Mary "Smith"
Jones), 4 children, all male and all in their 30s and not shown as married (at
least the last name is the same as the father and mother (Jones); then there
are 3 more children, 2 (ages 3 and 4) with the same surname (Brown) but not the
same surname as the father and mother of this group and 1 (age
1) with yet another last surname (Green) not the same as anyone else in this
family group. These last three are too young to be the children of the mother
listed with the group.

I'd like to keep them all listed together as shown in the census as I've found
many times there is some kind of relationship that shows up in a later
document. But I haven't figured out a way to do so. My choices seem to be to
link them as a new son or daughter or as an existing son or daughter but they
are really neither in 1850. If I enter them into the database as unlinked, then
they don't show up with the family.

BTW, I use my database for research - not reports so not concerned with
"pretty".

Suggestions??

Re: [LegacyUG] People listed in census with a family but relationship is unknown

2012-09-28 Thread Eliz Hanebury
I keep the strays with my bloodline family member using a note such as
Possible grandchild. In later years I am likely to have some daughters
who would be possible mother and I add a note wondering if they are
the mother.

I use brackets to put married name with a woman such as Sophia [Lacy]
Michie, and I would put Ann (Brown??) Jones to let me know there was
something I needed to keep working on.

Re: [LegacyUG] problem with unmarried

2012-09-28 Thread Brian/Support
The request to have two separate settings, one for never married and
another for had no children has been argued on our tester email list. So
far the programmers have not elected to separate the setting.

In Legacy 4.0 and 5.0 the setting was just "This individual never
married", no mention of children.

Since you do not have access to nFS and are not LDS you may want to turn
off those arrows.

Go to Options > Customize > General tab
In the lower right remove the check mark from: Integrate wit FamilySearch
You may also want to turn off the other LDS options in the LDS section
above that check box.

Have you recently re-installed or only just upgraded to Legacy 7? Those
"little arrows" related to Legacy linking with newFamilySearch and cane
be "switched off" by going to Options>Customise>General... and unticking
the option to Integrate with FamilySearch in the bottom right-hand corner.

2012-09-28 Thread Sherry/Support
Many non-LDS users are accessing nFS now - go to

new.FamilySearch.org

Some people have said they received their log-in quickly, others had
to wait. On the page where you sign up is a link to contact them about
your registration.

Once you receive your log-in from the church, you can use the
FamilySearch feature in Legacy.

and register with them.

Those little pale arrows are as a result of you electing to "Integrate with

Re: [LegacyUG] new.familysearch.org

2012-09-28 Thread Ron
Pat,

There really is no reason to get all huffy. You have to remember that
nFs is NOT a Legacy "product". Legacy is merely linking to the nFs
(New Family Search). If you do not already have a User ID and Password
for New Family Search, then you need to register. However, at this
point nFs has not been officially opened to all non LDS members. If
you are not an LDS member (if you are not sure what LDS is, a Google
search will help you to find answers/definitions), then you will not
have a Ward and/or Branch clerk.

Legacy hasn't made any changes related to access of the nFs (since they
don't own nFs, they don't have the ability to make changes to the
access requirement) and you being annoyed really is not justified.

Familysearch is owned by the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints.
Certain parts of that site are only available to their members. That is
the membership info it is asking for. No worries. If you are not a member
the part that isn't available would not be of interest to you anyway :-).
