[LegacyUG] Census analysis program

2012-10-03 Thread Tony Rolfe
Thanks for that, Brian

I'm actually aware of the census search tool and have used it for
getting one census.

I could build a search list by running that tool for each year, but I
was hoping for a short-cut.

Cheers

Tony

Re: [LegacyUG] Census analysis program

2012-10-03 Thread Brian/Support
Legacy 7.5 added a new census search tool when the 1940 US census was
released.
It will look for people who were alive on a census date and tries to
exclude those who already have census data for that date such as a
census source or census event. It includes the UK census dates so you
can search based on UK census.

It will not do exactly what you are asking but give it a try.

I forgot to say, in my first reply, where to find the census tool.
Go to Search > Find, The census tool is a new tab on that search screen.

Re: [LegacyUG] Mixed up marriage numbers

2012-10-03 Thread Marli Yoder
Not sure why it crashed- seems to hang up when I go into Pic Center to look at
what I have attached. This is from the family view screen- clicked on the
picture icon at the bottom of the person. I am not home to check for a backup.
Hope that works, as I have added about 50 scans of DC's to individuals (as
sorces for names of parents, wives, etc) Did the scan from the event (death
certificate). Sometimes it crashes there as well (when I save as)- says file not
found. Have the latest build.

[LegacyUG] Census analysis program

2012-10-03 Thread Tony Rolfe
I'm hoping that this is considered on-topic.

Does anyone know of a program which will read the Legacy database and
produce a list of people who have UK census events missing?

In other words, If Fred Smith was born in 1857, has an 1881 census event
only and died in 1900, the program would include him in the list because
he is missing 1861, 1971 and 1891 census events.

Thanks

2012-10-03 Thread Brian/Support
It would help if you said which reports you are using where you want the
extra space.

In the narrative reports add [cr] to the end of the event introduction
to add an extra carriage return between the intro and the first event.
If it is other style reports tell us which ones or look for an event
intro sentence in the report settings where you can add the same [cr]
code to add a carriage return.

[LegacyUG] Notes; Events

2012-10-03 Thread Pat Hickin
On reports I would like to have a space between the words/heading "General
Notes" and the actual contents. With notes, it's easy enough, as I can
just insert a HardReturn and leave a blank line at the beginning of the
notes.

But between the words introducing the Events and the first Event, I don't
know how to accomplish this. I tried to insert a blank event but Legacy
would not accept that. So I tried just putting a period in the first Event
Name and leaving all the other fields blank, but that period really doesn't
look so good on reports.
I don't see a way to insert a carriage return, but maybe I'm overlooking
something.

Of course, you could also join the rest of the world that uses the metric
system :-)

Re: [LegacyUG] check all picture locations - am I doing this correctly?

2012-10-03 Thread Sherry/Support
Legacy can't read your mind and doesn't know how you rename a file.
The lilnks to the files are stored in the database using the file name
and path as it is at the time you link it.

Legacy can, however, find pictures that have been *moved*.

If you change the file name through Picture Center, then the name is
changed in the database, but not if you change it outside of Legacy.

Sadly, you'll have to manually relink each file that has had a name change.

Sherry

There was a glitch a couple of builds back it's fixed now. Make
sure you have 7.5.0.208.

Go to Options > Customize > Data Defaults and make sure "inches" is
selected under "Units of Measurement"

[LegacyUG] check all picture locations - am I doing this correctly?

2012-10-03 Thread Tony Rolfe
If you change a folder name, all you have to do is go into Legacy and
try to load a file from the old folder name. Legacy can't find it, then
either browse for it yourself, or let Legacy do it and then all files in
that folder will be found.

If you are changing a file name, the best way is to use Pic Centre.
Browse to the folder containing the file and then rename using Picture
Centre's rename feature. It is horrible, becaus you have to type the
whole file name, but you only have to do it once (for each file) as all
references will be renamed. Actually that isn't quite true since, if
you have the file actually referenced in the source clipboard then that
stays with the old name.

If you change a filename outside of legacy, then each reference needs to
be corrected one by one.
