[LegacyUG] UK Locations

2016-04-13 Thread Franklin Chocco
When is it proper to use Great Britain or United Kingdom as country
designations.

Is there a specific time period when the British Isles were considered as
the United Kingdom or just Great Britain. I find that many researchers do
not separate the locations into the standard four designations, just use
three jurisdictions which does not follow genealogical standards that I
have been taught.

Can someone explain how to correctly enter locations for the United Kingdom?

Sincerely,

Ross,

They have to be done one at a time.

You can speed up the process by using the Picture Centre from the Tools
Ribbon.

This only applies to Pictures.

I asked just incase any of us have specialized knowledge of the area
but GENUKI should have some specialized records of the area.

I have just learned lately that familysearch.org are digitizing many
of the out of copyright books they hold search and see what you
can find.

I can't get the webinars, I all but once forget but that one was SO useful!

And of course don’t forget the FamilySearch site:

www.familysearch.org

Their wiki has great info on parishes, reg districts, etc. As well as lots of
indexed and browseable original records. All free.

Thanks for the tip! I've been using Genuki

view of relationships between parishes in the family.

I didn't say exactly anyone or place. But they were in Middlesex (Staines

the Thames) and Debtford/Lewisham. At least that I have identified so far.

[LegacyUG] Re Attachments

2016-04-13 Thread Larry Lee
I have seen several complaints recently regarding placement of attachments.
I don't want to re-discuss the correctness of either method here.

As John Lisle mentioned in an unrelated post it is sometimes difficult to
follow the message when attachments are not inline.

This is easily remedied with placement of a reference to the attached
filename at the place inline where the attachment would otherwise be
inserted. For example: (See filename.doc attached).

This is similar to: See Fig. X on page ## in a book. I know it is extra
keystrokes but it eliminates confusion.

The original message to the list is in the attachment.

This action is required because of the DMARC Reject/Quarantine Policy
imposed by some email providers. Users who want to send messages
without conversion to attachments should use a different email address
for their subscription.

Known providers for free email accounts whose emails do not require
this conversion include gmail.com and hotmail.com. Many other email
providers will also work but you will have to give them a try.--- Begin Message ---
Thank you Mike. But I'm unable to make out enough of the letters to be able to
type it. I was hoping someone who was able to read the language could have a
better chance at it.

I hope I'm not out of bounds with this question. I will validate it by saying I
don't want to put untrue information in my database.
I have a document from a Catholic Church in Chicago, that is hand written in
either German or Latin. I am unable to read it, and I'm looking for someone who
is willing to help with this. Some of the information I can guess at, but I
really don't want to enter untrue information. This information is expected to
help in tying Petri Schommer b. 1799 to my line.
If anyone is willing to help, I would very much appreciate it. If you can help,
please send an email to my address, which should appear above. I can send a
copy to you.
If this question is out of bounds, please let me know about that too.
Thank You,Ed--- End Message ---
