Re: [LegacyUG] Descendant chart

2017-05-03 Thread Cathy Pinner
Mike,

This has been fixed in the beta released today. At least you can
suppress Invisible people but the setting is not sticky so I've given
further feedback on that.

The fix will be in the next update for everyone. Soon is the best
estimate for when it will be released.

It's a while since I tested Charting and don't recall seeing this
earlier but it's certainly there now.

I've entered a bug report and marked it urgent.

(grumble) So I upgraded to version 9. The free upgrade only applied
if I'd
purchased version 8 after 11/25/16. I purchased 8 two weeks earlier, on
11/10. I
wrote Sales, which rejected my request for the free upgrade. So I paid
for
version 9.

Ah, the wonders of software. Fix something (or add a feature), break
 something else.

OK, the date-format option you mention below now works nicely.

HOWEVER, the version 8 suppress-invisible-people option does not
appear to work
now in version 9. Checking that box when creating a descendant chart
seems to
have no effect -- the "invisible" person is still visible on the chart.
This
looks like a bug. Or have I missed something?

(grumble) At this point, except for that date-format option (which I
 can live
without), I was fine with version 8. So I seem to have wasted time and
money
going to 9. Irritating.

Best,
Mike

Sorry, Mike (and anyone else who might have been confused).  When I

didn't know if that option was available in earlier versions.

RE: [LegacyUG] Descendant chart titles

2015-06-18 Thread Donna Stock
I'm using Legacy 8.0.0.499 with Windows 7 and I also get this same result.
Under the Reports tab, you're going into Chart Reports and then choosing a
Descendant Chart, right? I can't seem to use the [WifeFullname] or some of the
other wife's field names and then have it show up on the report either. I can
use some of the other Husband field names. Also, if I type in the spouse's
name, it shows up just like when you type in the names in full.
I can't seem to find an option to change this in the Report Options either.
Should we expect all the wife's field names to work in this?

Re: [LegacyUG] Descendant chart without siblings

2015-01-13 Thread Cathy Pinner
Hi Danny,

If you just want the line from one person to another, then use the
Relationship Calculator on the Tools Ribbon - see the Print options there.
If you want all the direct ancestors without their siblings, then you
want an Ancestor Chart, not a Descendant Chart.
If you want an ancestor chart without all the branches, export the
relevant people to a new Legacy file, make the chart and then delete the
file.

One way to include only the people you want to include is to tag them and
create a new file with just those individuals.  You can include spouses and
parents of spouses, for example, but not children.

Pat,

You should be able to achieve this by the '# Gens' selected. The great
grandchildren in your example would be the fourth generation, so selecting '#
Gens 3' prevents the great grandchildren from appearing.

There are some things you can do to try to get your chart on one page. I tried
the Descendant chart with a simple four generation family and it was shown in
the middle of two pages. I could select all of the chart and drag it over to
the left most page and it is now shown on one page. Or, use the 'Center Chart'
button on the left side of the screen. You can also use the 'Sizing options'
to change the box size and the spacing to try to get it to fit on one page. It
may be a better fit if the page is in Landscape mode. To change to Landscape
mode go to 'File Button' (the round icon with the chart in the upper left
corner), select 'Print', 'Properties', and change the page orientation to
'Landscape'.

Of course your chart may just be too big to fit on one page!

Bob has a good suggestion to use Legacy Charting to make the Descendant
Chart.

It will show the spouses of the third generation without including their
children. My earlier email referred to the Descendant Chart which Legacy
creates since Pat asked how to get Legacy to do what she wanted. Legacy
Charting also has the ability to move people around to help condense the
chart but there is still no fit to one page option.

creates since Pat asked how to get Legacy to do what she wanted. Legacy
Charting also has the ability to move people around to help condense the
chart but there is still no fit to one page option.

 Pat,

You should be able to achieve this by the '# Gens' selected.  The great

There are some things you can do to try to get your chart on one page.  I
tried the Descendant chart with a simple four generation family and it was
shown in the middle of two pages.  I could select all of the chart and drag
it over to the left most page and it is now shown on one page.  Or, use the
'Center Chart' button on the left side of the screen.  You can also use the
'Sizing options' to change the box size and the spacing to try to get it to
fit on one page.  It may be a better fit if the page is in Landscape mode.
To change to Landscape mode go to 'File Button' (the round icon with the
chart in the upper left corner), select 'Print',  'Properties', and change
 the page orientation to 'Landscape'.

Of course your chart may just be too big to fit on one page!

Subject: [LegacyUG] Descendant chart -- 3 generations with spouses

How do I get Legacy to create a 3-generation descendant chart with spouses
 for everyone, but no great-grandchildren?

In other words I want 1) the ancestor, 2) his children, their spouses and 3)
children and those children's spouses -- but no great-grandchildren.

Also, is there an option somewhere that says fit this into one page?

 Thanks,

Deleting the desc.usr file makes no difference. The only remedy seems to be
to close down Legacy and restart.

This problem has occurred on several separate occasions. Does anyone else
 have this random problem?

Re: [LegacyUG] Descendant chart filling only half page width

2014-02-23 Thread Boyd Miller
Thanks for your thoughts Peter.
Try as I might, I cannot 'make' the problem happen. It occurs randomly,
after several completely normal charts, some with exactly the same
people. When I close Legacy and restart, and produce a chart with the
same people the problem has disappeared (until next time!)
It seems not to relate to any particular person. I've changed many of
the chart settings and cannot make the problem recur. There are no
particularly exotic programs on this computer, but I will watch out for
the problem on my netbook which has even fewer programs. Next time it
happens I will try a few more things before resorting to shutting the
program down.

A number of years ago I had a problem different but
equivalent to what is happening to you.
Purely by chance I found some other setting somewhere
in the options for the chart/report was interfering with
the setting that mysteriously changed; in other words
they were using the same portion of memory somehow.

Try checking on ANY changes at all you make to options
between any chart generation and see if you can narrow
it down to one particular setting,
 OR
check if it always seems to occur immediately after one
particular person is the focus of the chart. In which case
it may be a particular setting for that person.

Periodically, after several perfectly normal Descendant charts, the right
margin on the next chart comes to come in to about the middle of
the page, and any remaining data on a person is wrapped to the next line.
This happens even when the margins are set to 1 cm.

If I close the chart and go to another person and generate a new descendant
chart, this gives the same problem and goes only halfway
 across the page.

[LegacyUG] Descendant Chart with Sources

2014-02-12 Thread Dale E O'Connor
Version 8.0.0.397 Standard edition - Win7

Reports Chart Reports Descendant Chart Report Options Sources

No options are selectable under Sources.

I tried Options Customize 7.2 and 7.3. They did not seem to make a
difference.

Are sources not allowed to print on Descendant Chart? Is there an
option somewhere else that makes source options selectable or do they
just not show up on Preview?

Thanks,

Dale

Re: [LegacyUG] Descendant chart problems

2012-02-22 Thread Ron Ferguson
Elizabeth,

It may be, some problems of this type have been reporting. You may try using
the Reset Button, to see if that removes the problem. You will need to
re-enter all your settings.

I now find I can't get Descendant Chart options to stay fixed. If I
open report options and change the paper to A4 which is standard, then
close and try to save the settings, it doesn't save. I also don't
have the option to change or set fonts in the same place.

I used to have this all set up before I moved to a newer computer but
now lots of settings (such as missing tags, reported earlier today)
just don't function as they should.

Is this a problem with the newer version of Legacy which I am now
regretting downloading?

Any advice helpful.
Thanks

[LegacyUG] Descendant Chart excludes records

2010-01-07 Thread Bob and Julie Hesse
Hi

When running a Descendant Chart, 1 branch is excluded. 3 children of the
marriage display with spouses/children/grandchildren for the first 2
children. For the 3rd child, no spouses (records have been added for 2),
children (3 records exist) or grandchildren (2) are displayed. It's as
though a line has been drawn under the 3rd child. I have not fiddled with
the options but just in case reset the Report Options to default setting. I
also checked that the Privacy selection is 'Not Private'. Any suggestions?

Regards

Julie
