RE: [LegacyUG] Adding Pictures

2011-08-21 Thread Mary Fowler Leek
Joan,

If you have a ton of these attached as graphic images, then my suggestion might
not have value but if you have only a limited number, I would suggest using the
free graphic viewer from Faststone to convert your graphic images of
certificates into PDF files, then reattach as a file. This will avoid attached
documents being displayed on your family view as a photo.

I've used this utility for several years and convert all of my genealogy
certificate images to PDF files before attaching. After this, one click in
Legacy and the PDF file will open into Adobe Reader, where you can easily study
the document. About the only images I regularly attach in Legacy that are
graphic files are people photos and tombstone photos.

One image this works beautifully with are the Texas Death Certificates, offered
online as a graphic file. I just convert them to PDF files and attach. So easy
to go back and review them, or email a copy to another researcher. In Adobe
Reader, you can increase the size on screen, to bring up close, details on the
certificate.

To convert, just open your image in the viewer, do a 'save as' and select PDF.
Your original image is untouched, leaving you with the graphic image of the
document plus the same document in PDF format.

Dear Mary,

Interesting idea. I use pdf's a lot as they are a most useful format
for sending unmangled documents!

Do you happen to know where Legacy stores this sort of file? I keep all
the Legacy files I can lay hands on in a folder called 'Legacy data' so
that I can back the files up easily systematically.

Many thanks

If you look at ToolsOptionsLocations you can see a list of the default
locations for different types of file.

But you don't have to use the defaults. You can put your files anywhere
you choose. If you click the appropriate button on the above screen you
can see all the places where you have chosen to store files which you
have attached in Legacy. My list has 108 entries!

RE: [LegacyUG] Adding Pictures

2011-08-21 Thread Mary Fowler Leek
No Kim, it doesn’t. I attach all PDF documents to each individual person for
whom the documents apply. This way, they show up all in a row when I click on
the photo icon, making it easy for me to see what I have collected. Go to one
of your entries that has a person photo attached. Pretend you are going to
attach another photo for this person but Click on FILE instead, then browse to
a pdf file somewhere on your hard drive and click on it to SELECT it. (it
won’t matter what the pdf file is as you will remove the attachment as soon as
your experiment is over)

Now choose OPEN, and when the next screen opens, you can add a caption, etc. if
wanted. I usually put in Death Certificate, Marriage Certificate or something
that will quickly indicate to me what the file contains. Now click on OK. You
will see the little file icon in a slot in the Picture Gallery. Now click on
“Print Photo Album” and then click on Preview. On screen, you will see that the
only thing that prints in the photo album are the photos.

Now simply highlight the file icon of the PDF file you just attached and click
on Remove. All is back to where you began.

For me, to see the documents quickly and easily and to be able to attach a copy
of the PDF document to email and send to another researcher, right from Legacy,
is a big plus and time saver for me.

You can much more from the Picture Gallery, but that should get you started.

Hi Jackie,

Adding pictures should be straightforward
1. Click on the little 'picture frame icon'
2. Navigate to your picture
3. Click on 'Close'

Your picture should them be available.

Having said that, all mine vanished when I transferred Legacy to my new
PC. Perhaps someone kind could remind me where in Legacy pictures are
stored so that I can back them up - or move them to the the same place
as my Legacy data files.

All the best

Perhaps we could be of better assistance if you gave us a little more
information regarding what step in the process you're having problems with.  If
you follow the step by step directions you were given, I'm having a hard time
figuring out what might be difficult unless you're not sure what folder(s) on
your computer you have your pictures stored in, or how to navigate to them?
They are not going to be in a Legacy folder unless you deliberately put them
there.

1 From an Individual's Information Screen, click on the Picture Gallery

2 Click on the Picture button.

4 Click OK.
5 Add a Description and/or Date and/or Caption.

To add a picture to Source Details:

1 From the Assigned Sources Screen, select the Source and click Edit
Detail.
2 Click Multimedia.
3 Click the Picture button.
4 Click the Picture button.
5 Follow steps 3 to 6 above.

If you are adding a picture at the time of creating the Citation, you
can go straight to 2.

Adding a picture to an Event is just like adding it to an individual

Re: [LegacyUG] Adding Pictures

2011-08-17 Thread Connie Sheets
From the Family View, click on the Picture Gallery icon (two people inside a
frame).

The Picture Gallery window will appear; click on the Picture icon (toward the
upper right corner of the window).

The Load Picture window will appear. There are several ways to access your
photos from here but the easiest for me is this: look toward the lower left,
about half-way down, and you should see a list of folders on your computer.
Click on the folder that contains your pictures (in my case it is called
Pictures). From there find the photo you wish to attach, then click OK.

You can much more from the Picture Gallery, but that should get you started.

RE: [LegacyUG] adding pictures to a report

2011-05-28 Thread Jan Roberts
You can add as many as you like, but Legacy will only print one picture per
event. (Note Marriage pictures don’t print in reports, even though you can add
them into Legacy – only pictures attached to events will print). The
individuals preferred picture will print, plus one picture for each event. So,
if you have a picture that you want to print in a report create an event
related to the picture and attach it to that. If you just want to create a
scrapbook of pictures you can include all pictures in that.

Cheers
Jan

Hello users ! Is it possible to insert many pictures into any one individual’s
record, or does Legacy only allow one picture per record? Thank you, Beatrice

Re: [LegacyUG] adding pictures to a report

2011-05-28 Thread Brian/Support
There seem to be two parts to your question. From the subject line you
want to add pictures to a report but in the body you only ask about
adding pictures to a person's record.

As others have said, the reports will only include one picture for the
person and one for each event, if events are allowed in the particular
report.

You can however add multiple pictures to the person, sources, events
etc. if that is your wish, one of those will be marked as the preferred
picture. It will have an asterisk (*) when it is displayed in the photo
gallery for the person, event, source etc. It is this preferred picture
which is included when pictures are included in reports.

RE: [LegacyUG] adding pictures to a report

2011-05-27 Thread William Boswell
I’m not sure if there is a difference between the free version and the deluxe
version (I’m using the latter), but I have no problem inserting more than one
image for sources or individuals. By records, I’m assuming you are speaking of
source images, or do you mean person photos? Either way, you should be able to
add more than one image at least in the deluxe version.

I understand the free version doesn’t have the full features that the deluxe
version has for pictures so there could be limitations. Since I’ve never
opened my data file in the standard version, I have no idea what the difference
is or if it will allow attaching more than one image per person.
