I wouldn't worry about it. If you indeed mean MAINT and not MAINT6xx,
there's nothing there but a basic PROFILE EXEC, PROFILE XEDIT and SYN
SYNONYM. If you'd accumulated other files there you're SOL where they're
concerned, but the shipped files are easily recreatable (or copy from one
of the other maintenance ids).

From the Plan your DVD Installation part of the Installation Guide:
Installation will install the RSU shipped as part of the z/VM product DVD.
 If additional service is
required, install the additional service after your initial installation
 is complete.

And if you look at http://www.vm.ibm.com/service/rsu/stk630.html, you will

When you use IPL LOADPARM SYSC, then CP will use the integrated
Operating System Messages console. When CP wants a response from it
(you), the icon will flash. This support is virtualized, so the flashing
 icon is simulated by HCPSED6013A.

To respond to the virtual Operating System Messages console, use #CP
VINPUT VMSG xx, where # is the linend character on your *first
 level* ID.

If you want CP to use 009, then
 1. TERMINAL SYS3270 ON
 2. IPL LOADPARM SYSG
 3. When SAPL comes up, put CONS=SYSG in the IPL parameters

Some people use TERMINAL CONMODE 3270, and then IPL LOADPARM 009.
That's fine, but just know that once you issue TERMINAL CONMODE 3270, CMS
can no longer write to the terminal. Disconcerting, perhaps, but it won't
 stop you from IPLing CP.

install DVD states 6.3 with RSU6304. So I though the 6304 service would
have
gone on with the install? Question is, do I try to install the service
off the
DVD or pull from shop zseries? I have searched all over for instructions
on how
to install the service from the DVD and can't find it anywhere, any help
there?

From the Plan your DVD Installation part of the Installation Guide:
Installation will install the RSU shipped as part of the z/VM product DVD.
If additional service is
required, install the additional service after your initial installation
is complete.

And if you look at http://www.vm.ibm.com/service/rsu/stk630.html, you will
see that RSU6304 contains service level 1501. RSUs are containers that
hold service level upgrades. The various components may be at different
service levels within the RSU.

Let me try to teach you to fish. From VM:
1. QUERY ACCESSED C
2. You will see DIR or a virtual device number (vaddr) in the Vdev
column.
3. If it says DIR, copy the SFS directory name in its entirety and go to
step 5.
4. CP QUERY MDISK vaddr. Concatenate the last two tokens with a . in
between.
5. In your FTP session, CD xx, where xx is what you came up with
in step 3 or 4.

Example 1: SFS
q accessed b
Mode Stat Files Vdev Label/Directory
B R/W 573 DIR GPLSRV2:ALTMARKA.TOOLS
Ready;

In the above case, I would cd gplsrv2:altmarka.tools. If I am logged
into FTP as ALTMARKA, then I can cd gplsrv2:.tools, just as I could do
with the ACCESS command in CMS.

Example 2: Minidisk
q accessed d
Mode Stat Files Vdev Label/Directory
D R/O 893 121 TCP592
Ready;

q mdisk 121
TargetID Tdev OwnerID Odev
ALTMARKA 0121 TCPMAINT 0592
Ready;

In this example, I have virtual device 121. If I try to cd
altmarka.121, it will fail since I do not have a 121 mindisk in my
directory. This is a disk I VMLINKed after I logged on. QUERY MDISK 121
shows me it is really TCPMAINT's 592 disk. So cd tcpmaint.592 is what
works.

If the LINK to that disk had been in my CP directory entry, then I could
have done a cd altmarka.121.

Re: zVM/Linux Upgrade

2015-05-06 Thread van Sleeuwen, Berry
Hi Matt,

RSU6304 is the RSU number, not the reported service level. In this case the 4th
RSU for zVM 6.3. But indeed RSU6304 is actually the 1501 RSU level and that's
the most current one.

Refer to http://www.vm.ibm.com/service/rsu/ to find the latest RSU numbers. You
can then follow through to the RSU seervice levels for the various zVM versions.

You still might want to order the 1501 RSU from shopz. Not for the current RSU
level (you already have that one) but because you can get additional PTFs not
found in the RSU. I recently got the 1501 RSU and an additional PTF envelope as
well.

Met vriendelijke groet/With kind regards/Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
Berry van Sleeuwen

Re: zVM/Linux Upgrade

2015-05-06 Thread Marcy Cortes
I should have also said you want to check the PSP bucket as well.
Hopefully this link will work.

https://www-304.ibm.com/ibmlink/psp/submit.wss?keyValueString=ZVM630++%2C1501RSUnavItem=PspOpenviewButton=truelc=encc=USupgradeName=zvm630

And then you want to go check (and follow!) the security PTFs in ResourceLink.

My upgrade/install of 6.3 from 6.1 is complete, first time yea!. Checking on
the service level I noticed that the new 6.3 system is at 1501 but my 6.3
install DVD states 6.3 with RSU6304. So I though the 6304 service would have
gone on with the install? Question is, do I try to install the service off the
DVD or pull from shop zseries? I have searched all over for instructions on how
to install the service from the DVD and can't find it anywhere, any help there?
thanks Matt

Let me try to teach you to fish. From VM:
1. QUERY ACCESSED C
2. You will see DIR or a virtual device number (vaddr) in the Vdev column.
3. If it says DIR, copy the SFS directory name in its entirety and go to step 5.
4. CP QUERY MDISK vaddr. Concatenate the last two tokens with a . in
between.
5. In your FTP session, CD xx, where xx is what you came up with in
step 3 or 4.

Example 1: SFS
q accessed b
Mode Stat Files Vdev Label/Directory
B R/W 573 DIR GPLSRV2:ALTMARKA.TOOLS
Ready;

In the above case, I would cd gplsrv2:altmarka.tools. If I am logged into
FTP as ALTMARKA, then I can cd gplsrv2:.tools, just as I could do with the
ACCESS command in CMS.

Example 2: Minidisk
q accessed d
Mode Stat Files Vdev Label/Directory
D R/O 893 121 TCP592
Ready;

q mdisk 121
TargetID Tdev OwnerID Odev
ALTMARKA 0121 TCPMAINT 0592
Ready;

In this example, I have virtual device 121. If I try to cd altmarka.121, it
will fail since I do not have a 121 mindisk in my directory. This is a disk I
VMLINKed after I logged on. QUERY MDISK 121 shows me it is really TCPMAINT's
592 disk. So cd tcpmaint.592 is what works.

If the LINK to that disk had been in my CP directory entry, then I could have
done a cd altmarka.121.

Re: zVM/Linux Upgrade

2015-04-29 Thread Andrew Westerfield
This is what I did.

From the command prompt, I ftp to my z/VM system and sign in as maint.

MAINT logged in; working directory = MAINT 191

Issue command
 cd maint.2cc

You can issue the 'LS' command here to view the contents of the working
directory and see if USER.DIRECT is there.

I use my H:\ for downloads, so issue some similar command
 lcd H:\

Issue command
 get USER.DIRECT userdirect.txt
