ANNOUNCE: hamsoft, client for radio.linux.org.au
Hamsoft is a reader for new hamradio linux software at radio.linux.org.au. When you select an entry in the list and click on read, the link will be opened in a netscape window. Netscape has to be running already. You need to have gtk and libgtk-perl installed on your system, this comes with most distributions. Basically, kernel AX.25 support is not working. See matthias' posting. I was responsible for the 1.7 version of tnt for debian and did not bother to package 1.8, because of the broken support for kernel AX.25. [PATCH] 2.2 kernel compile error in hfmodem with gcc 2.95
For those who have the newest gcc compiler (2.95) and experience trouble compiling the hfmodem stuff in the latest kernel, here is a patch that fixes this. ANNOUNCE: linux amateur radio software database
After several weeks of testing we are proud to announce the LINUX AMATEUR RADIO SOFTWARE DATABASE. The database can be viewed at http://radio.linux.org.au The startup page will show you new software which has been entered in the last month. You will see buttons, which will allow you to browse the database by section, sorted by date, title, or subsection. There are 2 buttons on the main page for adding software packages and sending feedback to the database maintainers. When you add a package, it will be held back until it has been reviewed by one of the maintainers. Credits for the web-pages go to Terry Dawson, VK2KTJ. Terry has used PHP3, a powerful HTML language to talk to a MySQL database where the records are stored. The records were taken and updated from http://www.casema.net/~aba, which means these pages will soon be obsolete, as will be the HAM-HOWTO, if this database will prove to be useful. We hope this software database will encourage hams to write and share amateur radio software for linux. Thanks, Joop -- Joop Stakenborg PA4TU, ex-PA3ABA <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Linux Amateur Radio Software Database http://radio.linux.org.au

Because xforms has a license problem, leaving these programs in the debian ax25-utils package would cause the utils to end up in the contrib section. Craig decided to leave them out, so the ax25-utils could go in the main debian distribution. Hi there, tnt 1.7 debs and rpms are available at www.debian.org/~pa3aba Joop -- Joop Stakenborg PA4TU, ex-PA3ABA <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Linux Hamradio Applications and Utilities Homepage http://www.casema.net/~aba
tnt-1.7pre5.deb available for testing
Hello fellow hams, I have made a debian package of the newest release of tnt. It is available for testing at http://www.debian.org/~pa3aba. This is not an official deb. Just for testing purposes. Some tips: Create a directory ~/.tnt Copy /etc/tnt.ini to ~/.tnt Change /usr/lib/tnt in tnt.ini to reflect your .tnt directory. Make appropriate directories like in /usr/lib. This could all have been programmed I guess, but it is not in the code. In order to use the monitor screen you have to chmod u+s /usr/bin/tnt. Support for ax25 ports is in the last lines of the tnt.ini files, change them! Let me know what you think, so I can send feedback to the author. Reliability is important too. We really belong at vger, because all the linux mailing lists are hosted there. But, from the replys we get on this subject I get the impression that a faster server would be something that a lot of people want. It could be done at debian. They have the expertise, they can ensure that the list will be reliable... I could ask around. But of course I cannot decide this on my own. First of all, Bob N2KGO, our list maintainer, has to agree. We can also just keep the debian solution in mind, just in case the list gets even slower. > And the pain of moving, updating all the documentation... > Yep, it's a lot of work. Re: linux-hams is sloooooow..
Now we know the slowness is caused by vger, can we do something about this? I think the list could benefit from a better responsiveness How about asking around, to set up a dedicated server for the mailing list. Or install a mailserver on another box, I was thinking of: www.qsl.net, I think Al would notreally mind if we moved to his server. zone.pspt.fi, the place were all the AX.25 stuff is stored, would be a greate place to run the list. www.debian.org, they support development of free software, they host mailing lists related to that and we develop free software, don't we? Joop -- Joop [EMAIL PROTECTED] Linux Hamradio Applications and Utilities Homepage http://www.casema.net/~aba
linux-hams is sloooooow..
I have noticed that a mail from me, posted to linux-hams takes about 1-2 days before it ends up on the list. Can someone do something about this? Because of this, I mostly don't bother cc'ing to the list, but always directly mail to the mail owner. Anyone else have this problem? New mailing list: debian-hams
Hi, I want to announce the creation of a new mailing list: debian-hams. It is supposed to be for debian hamradio developers and users. Some things I can think of which can be discussed on the list: - Make more hamradio software DFSG free. - Supply debian with a ham-ready kernel. - Give hams better support for debian packages. - Create more hamradio packages for the debian distribution. You can subscibe to the list by sending a mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the subject: subscribe. For more information on debian lists see http://www.debian.org/MailingLists/subscribe. The debian-hams list will eventually be archived at http://www.debian.org/List-Archives Joop -- Joop [EMAIL PROTECTED] Linux Hamradio Applications and Utilities Homepage http://www.casema.net/~aba

But this might be a good idea. I will put in some lines that will help you understand what is going on when using lynx. Full support for lynx will have to wait until I have added some more sites though. Lynx support involves setting up another kind of navigation through the site. This is a lot of work. I have planned to do some more work over the weekend on my site. I hope to finish buiding the menu tree around the end of the year. When all goes as planned I will make an announcement on linux-hams and comp.os.linux.announce around january 1st.
