It is a Windows-only modem:

Not much you can do about it :(

Try using 'sda=cylinders, heads, sectors' at the linux: prompt. This solved
the problem for me, but I am using EIDE...

Okay, I'm pretty sure I've gotten one of those to work under NT, so
no, I don't think it's a winmodem either. You do need to find out
what it considers to be it's default COMx and possibly IRQ, though.

Grab the RPMS for all the isdn stuff in my anon ftp public area and
install them.

I have just added RPMs for a newer release of linuxconf for which there
are a couple of additional rpms - mgetty and isdnadmin. The later makes
setting up isdn trivial.

Subject: Sony Monitor Setup
Date: 19 Mar 1999 08:10:44 GMT

Hi,
I just got a new 17in Sony MultiScan 200ES along with a Creative
Labs Graphics Blaster Riva TNT video card. I'd like to run at 1280x1024
resolution, but I want to use all the available refresh capability of
the monitor. The specs give it 30-70k kHz horizontal and 50-120 kHz
vertical. XFree86 gives three ready-to-go 1280x1024 modes, but the only
one that is below 70 kHz horizontal is also only 60 kHz vertical (thus
causing a slight flicker). Can anyone tell me the mode parameters
I should use in order to run at 1280x1024 with a good vertical refresh
rate?

Thanks
Tom

Is there a way to configure RedHat 5.2 to avoid having to mount and
unmount the floppy drive? For example, using WordPerfect 8, it would be
great to be able to save to a floppy without having to open a new shell
and type in the mount commands. Even if the only answer is that you've
got to mount and unmount every single time, I'd like to know for certain
that that's the case. Thanks.

I too just got this message tonight whilst mounting the CD Rom, I found that
it was because Linux was too fast for the CD Rom drive and tried to mount it
too soon!

Try once and get the error message. If, like me, the CD light comes on and
the drive starts spinning, try mounting again straight away. Worked for me

I agree with most of what you have said Richard.

In a nutshell my belief has always been,

"Select the application, and then the platform"

If you need an application to control robotics that manufacturer
widgets and the best version is available for Solaris, then that is
the way you must go.

Scripting and configuration is an area where nix's have a huge
advantage and don't get me wrong vi and Emacs as well as slrn and the
others I mentioned are fine programs but the average user is not going
to be interested in them after using Outlook or Agent etc, UNLESS they
have very specific needs that those programs can address.

The problem is coming from:

199.201.191.2

It is changing the Message-ID, so the bounces escape the natural screening
of news servers. I'm fairly sure the problem is being looked into, news

But, I used SVGA sever and It seems to work fairly well. I can get 1024X768 up to

Ok, thanks for the emails from several of y'all. I've made progress,
but am not there yet. I have downloaded and installed the latest
PCMCIA drivers, and am using the tulip driver for this card. Now when
I insert the card, here's the output:

Obviously, no etho interface comes up. cardctl ident corectly
identifies the card.

And, I modified /etc/pcmcia/config so that the "Linksys Etherfast 10/100
Fast Ethernet" would bind to "tulip_cb" and not "pcnet_cs".

Ideas anyone? As usual, your help is appreciated.

I have a PC with two hard disks: 4.5 GB SCSI and 10.1 GB IDE. What I
would like to
do is set up NT, Linux and Solaris 7 so that they could be switched with
minimum effort.

I have managed to set up NT and Linux (RedHat 5.2) on the SCSI disk and
they both
work OK - even updated the Linux kernel to 2.2.3... The problem seems to
come when
adding Solaris on the IDE disk: Linux stops at something like
"checking the partitions...
hda: "

Does this come from the partition ID codes since the Solaris
partition is marked by
id of #$82, decimal 130 the same as Linux Swap? The only way so far to
get the Linux
part up - and still have the IDE disk visible - is to change the
partition ID of the IDE's
Solaris partition.
I have - of course - not told Linux to use the 2GB Solaris partition
as swap. Does it
decide by itself somehow? Or is it a problem with the disk size being
over 8GB? It does

I'm using red-hat 5.2, everything works fine but however i can't get my
mouse to work.
The mouse is a serial mouse (tec-mouse). I have tried mouseconfig, i
select the right mouse type,
the right com port-cua0 (com1), but nothing works. I aslo tried
moseconfig --kickstart --device cua0, but this did not work.

In the Bios i have serial port 1 is using com 1. I think that the serial
ribbon might be messed up, i have no way of tell that.
Should i make a dos boot disk and get the driver for that mouse and see
if it works.

The way i have that serial cable plugged in the mothe rboard is db-9
ribbon red facing the isa pci slots on com1. I'm sure this is
right.

Also i have a modem on com2, it uses jumpers so i know its on two.

what can i do?

Paul thanks for the reply. Would you pass on your setup and modem
strings that work for you. Thanks in advance!

Weird, deja didn't post the follow up question I had, just the original
post

Any comments/weird experiences/war stories/etc on the Yamaha CRW4416Sx? It
is expensive, but I think the extra cost is worth it.
