 looking for
a similar instrument, not too old, where the number of courses is

I am aware of the lutes for hire at The Lute Society.

Hello:
Does anyone know of a source of information about the turn of the
 20th
century German lute-guitars ( or guitar-lutes?)? I am interested
 in
their apparent popularity: how they were used, and were they a
 serious
instrument? or romantic gimmick?
I recently bought one that is a bit more 'lute-like' than the
 average
lute-guitar, with a full carved rosette, friction pegs instead of
tuning gears, and a rather large maple bowl. Unfortunately I
 cannot see
a label.

[LUTE] Re: intabulations

2018-07-29 Thread David Morales
   Hello,
I have published some insights about Sarge Gerbode's tablature
collection a while ago on our blog:
   [1]http://cuerdaspulsadas.es/blog/un-analisis-de-la-coleccion-de-tablat
   uras-de-sarge-gerbode/
Check out the section related to musical forms.
It is not a comprehensive work but you can have a good idea about that
   and other related topics.

Not really answering your question, but for the vihuela repertoire
 (~700
works) the percentage is roughly this:
 Intabulations and songs: ~60%
 Fantasias: ~30%
Variations, dances, tientos, glosas etc: ~10%
The numbers are taken from an article by John Griffiths "At Court
 and at
Home with the Vihuela de mano", I rounded them up very slightly.
This is, of course, not representative of the entire Renaissance
 lute
 repertoire.

Thanks for your kind words, Tristan.
Cats always follow other cats, so by showing our cats, hopefully, you

Charm'd wolves, and from the mountaine creasts
Made forests dance with all their beasts?
Could these neglected shreads you see
 Inspire a Lute of Ivorie
And make it speake? Oh! think then what
Hath beene committed by my catt,
Who, in the silence of this night
 Hath gnawne these cords, and marr'd them quite;
Leaving such reliques as may be
For fretts, not for my lute, but me.
Pusse, I will curse thee; may'st thou dwell
With some dry Hermit in a cell
Where Ratt neere peep'd, where mouse neere fedd,
 And flyes goe supperlesse to bedd;
Or with some close-par'd Brother, where
 Thou'lt fast each Saboath in the yeare;
Or else, prophane, be hang'd on Munday,
 For butchering a mouse on Sunday;
Or May'st thou tumble from some tower,
And misse to light upon all fower,
Taking a fall that may untie
 Eight of nine lives, and let them flye;
Or may the midnight embers sindge
Thy daintie coate, or Jane beswinge
Thy hide, when she shall take thee biting
Her cheese clouts, or her house beshiting.
What, was there neere a ratt nor mouse,
Nor Buttery ope? nought in the house
 But harmlesse Lutestrings could suffice
Thy paunch, and draw thy glaring eyes?
Did not thy conscious stomach finde
Nature prophan'd, that kind with kind
Should staunch his hunger? thinke on that,
 Thou caniball, and Cyclops catt.
For know, thou wretch, that every string
Is a catt-gutt, which art doth spinne
Into a thread; and how suppose
Dunstan, that snuff'd the divell's nose,
Should bid these strings revive, as once
 He did the calfe, from naked bones;
Or I, to plague thee for thy sinne,
Should draw a circle, and beginne
To conjure, for I am, look to't,
An Oxford scholer, and can doo't.
Then with three setts of mopps and mowes,
Seaven of odd words, and motley showes,
A thousand tricks, that may be taken
From Faustus, Lambe, or Fryar Bacon:
I should beginne to call my strings
 My catlings, and my mynikins;
And they recalled, straight should fall
To mew, to purr, to catterwaule
From puss's belly. Sure as death,
 Pusse should be an Engastranith;
Pusse should be sent for to the king
For a strange bird, or some rare thing.
Pusse should be sent to farre and neere,
As she some cunning woman were.
Pusse should be carried up and downe,
From shire to shire, from Towne to Towne,
Like to the camell, Leane as Hagg,
 The Elephant, or Apish nagg,
For a strange sight; pusse should be sung
In Lousy Ballads, midst the Throng
At markets, with as good a grace
 As Agincourt, or Chevy-chase.
 The Troy-sprung Brittan would foregoe
 His pedigree he chaunteth soe,
And singe that Merlin - long deceast -
Returned is in a nyne-liv'd beast.
  Thus, pusse, thou seest what might betyde thee;
 But I forbeare to hurt or chide thee;
For may be pusse was melancholy
And so to make her blythe and jolly,
Finding these strings, shee'ld have a fitt
Of mirth; nay, pusse, if that were it,
Thus I revenge mee, that as thou
 Hast played on them, I've plaid on you;
And as thy touch was nothing fine,
Soe I've but scratch'd these notes of mine.

Let me please, first of all, share with you that we (Cuerdas Pulsadas)

Besides this announcement, I also would like to share with you some

insights about the tablatures collection on Sarge Gerbode's website.

Some years ago I worked on a [1]search engine for this collection and

now I have worked on the dataset to create some interesting charts.

This is not a formal or comprenhensive analysis and I am not en expert

I hope that you will enjoy it too.

 Hi Göran
Thanks for your interest - I've emailed you the details.
LuteScribe uses the same commands as TAB, but it does provide some
visual hinting. For example "x" means "the previous flag", and so in
the LuteScribe GUI, these "x" flags are visually de-emphasised, so
you can focus on the substantive flags. This makes the tabulature
much more similar to the final printed form. For example, see the
following screenshot to see this in action:
   [2]https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByhfXkzbvI8Vbl9JY3BZUnZVOEk
As you can see it also shows the bar lines and uses an appropriate
historical font (based with permission on those by Steve Horn in his
 Sibelius package).
Also it goes beyond just working with Wayne Cripps TAB, as you can
use it to view Fronimo files (although at present, not every element
in Fronimo is currently imported for compatibility reasons).
 Best Wishes

[LUTE] Re: KF vs. new Aquila bass strings

2017-08-30 Thread David Morales
I completely agree with all of you empowering the work made by Mimmo.
It is absolutely clear that he is spending lots of time and efforts on
CD basses, you only have to take a look at his facebook timeline, but
it is also true that for him to be able to produce these strings is
almost an obsession, a vital goal.
I can say that nylgut strings are top seller in Cuerdas Pulsadas, from
amateur to professional lutenists use these strings all around the
world. And I am sure that CD basses are going to make a difference too,
   it's a matter of time.
I am used to play with gimped gut and I think that CD basses are going
to be the best replacement for them.
   Regards.

 Dear All,
I heartily endorse all praise for Mimmo, who has done so much to
help us with stringing our lutes in a way which is closer to
historical. I know he is fundamentally someone who is addicted to
the lute and I'm sure he would like to dedicate his efforts to
serving us lutenists. Unfortunately he has to make a living, and
providing a few lute players with historically-appropriate strings
can only be a small part of his activity. I hope that the current
difficulties can be overcome and we can have a reliable supply of
 usable strings.
So well done Mimmo, and keep up the good work!

[LUTE] Re: basses in octaves

2017-02-28 Thread David Morales
   Hi Bruno,
We have received the same feedback from a couple of customers these
days at Cuerdas Pulsadas, so I am going to try them in the renaissance
lute to check if this is something specific of not.
   Regards.

   2017-02-28 9:56 GMT-08:00 Bruno Cognyl-Fournier
   <[1]fournier...@gmail.com>:

Dear Collective wisdom,
I have been tuning my 5 and 6th course in octaves for years, with
 wound
strings and gut or nylgut.
recently I bought the CD loaded strings from Mimmo and am slowly
getting used to them. I have thus replaced the fundamental with
 CD
loaded, while keeping my octave strings in gut or nylgut, this on
 two
different lutes.
I have noticed that the octaves are horribly out of tune as I go
 up the
neck, especially by the time you get to the 7th fret.I
 realize I
rarely have to play up there, but it bothers me.Am trying to
 figure
out what the problem is.. would it be a mismatch of tension? or
 would
it be the Loaded CD strings, that as some of you have probably
 found to
be very elastic.I have never had this issue with wound
 string/gut
combinations.
I will be testing each string individually to check which one
 goes out
of tune as you move up the scale, but I suspect it is the Loaded
 string
that is giving me the problem.
any comments?
Bruno

Now, can anyone tell me if the new basses are now available in the

Let's take a look at [2]Harmonie universelle, contenant la théorie et
la pratique de la musique, written by Marin Mersenne and published in
Paris in 1636. It represented the sum of musical knowledge during his
   lifetime (available [3]at gallica).

Here, Mersenne give us some clues about the sound of the bass strings:

On the other hand...Mersenne says his basses sustain for almost
 20
seconds!!!
I'll stick with the Aquila.

[LUTE] New loaded synthetic bass strings by Aquila Corde

2016-11-12 Thread David Morales
   Dear lutenists,
I am pretty sure that most of you have already heard about these new
strings, since Mimmo Peruffo has been posting some pictures and
comments about all the development process on Facebook.
We thought that it could be a great idea to publish an interview with
Mimmo and know a bit more about his research and these new strings.
So, here you have the result:
   [1]http://cuerdaspulsadas.es/blog/new-loaded-synthetic-bass-strings-by-
   aquila-corde/
Remember that these strings will be available quite soon, but they are
   not still ready to purchase.
I also would like to thank Mimmo for his collaboration and support.
   Regards.

[LUTE] Re: New lutenist looking for a first instrument

2016-11-04 Thread David Morales
   Hi John,
We have a section on our blog completely devoted to used instruments on
sale. We are not involved in the sale, we only help the people to
announce their instruments for free and I can say that it works pretty
   well.
   [1]www.cuerdaspulsadas.com/blog/category/mercado/
You can translate the webpage by using the flags on the top left
   corner.
Consider, and this is my opinion, to buy one of these instruments
instead of one coming from Thomman or mid-est countries. It could be
more expensive but better in the long-term.
   Regards.

   2016-11-04 10:23 GMT+01:00 Jack <[2]jackyen...@gmail.com>:

 Hello all,
My name is John Yentes. I have been a classical guitarist and
violist for many years (among many other instruments) and am
beginning my foray into the world of the lute. I am currently
living in Japan and am wondering if anyone knows of or is selling a
used instrument that I could purchase or perhaps if you might also
know of some less expensive luthiers for decent quality instruments.
I don't mind buying something a bit less than perfect as I have
already resigned myself to the idea of visiting a professional who
can adjust the instrument for my own specific needs. I'm looking
for an 8 course lute or perhaps a baroque lute. I'm not quite sure
which I would prefer to start with, but I would be very grateful for
any information I could acquire in regards to the pros and cons of
starting on either instrument respectively in regard to my previous
experience as a guitarist . My budget is only about 1500 dollars.
I have found some lutes on eBay from a Turkish maker named Sa!
adettin Sandi and his son. Apparently they are of fairly good
quality from what I have read. I have also been considering some
instruments from the early music shop. If anyone could provide any
info for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I enjoy listening to
music from the Italian renaissance such as Piccinnini and I also
enjoy Dowland quite a bit. I am well versed in the works of
baroque music available for the lute as well though, so perhaps what
I am after is an instrument that can play a bit of everything or at
least has some degree of versatility. Thanks for reading and I
hope to hear back from some of you.
 John

 Any suggestion is welcome :-)

14C THEORBO/BAROQUE LUTE BY IVO MAGHERINI (2015), sold with PVC
ultra-lightweight Vorko Case. 76cm/120cm. Can be set up with
 single or
double strings. Fantastic instrument that can be tuned as a
 theorbo in
A or as a "thA(c)orbe de piA"ces" in D. It can also be set up
 as a big
swan-neck baroque lute like the later German monster lutes. I
 purchased
it for certain projects in 2015, but no longer have need of the
instrument. Asking price is aNOT6000.

[LUTE] Despertando instrumentos dormidos

2015-12-04 Thread David Morales
   Hi everyone,
I would like to share with you a really great project developed here in
Spain. Here you have a description but please, visit the full article to
read everything about the project, including photos and a nice
interview with the two main leaders.
   [1]http://cuerdaspulsadas.es/blog/despertando-instrumentos-dormidos/
"Despertando instrumentos dormidos" has inherited most of its concepts
from pioneering initiatives such as Santiago de Compostela or Puivert.
From the study of instruments and presentation at the International
Symposium on the Cover of Ripoll in 2013, the project go further and to
carry out the recreation wood stone sculptures of over forty
instruments that appear on the cover Romanesque.
The building process of these instruments has been open to the public,
supplemented by lectures and workshops. More than 1,000 people have
followed these activities: students of schools in the region,
interpreters of medieval music researchers and the general public have
accompanied us in this adventure that we now want to continue beyond
   Ripoll.
These reconstructions of unique instruments form part of a concert and
an exhibition that aim to explain the details of the Monastery of
Ripoll (candidate for World Heritage Site by UNESCO) and the importance
of medieval culture developed in Catalonia between centuries X and
   XIII.

[LUTE] A birthday

2015-11-23 Thread David Morales
   Hi everyone,
Please, excuse me for the commercial, first of all.
We, at Cuerdas Pulsadas, are celebrating our fifth birthday :)
During these five years, we have improved our offering, increased the
list of countries where we are sending strings, and always tried to
   work better and better...
But, in addition, we have always offered support for some projects,
ideas, musicians, recordings, training... and also launched some tools
and sites devoted to early plucked music, so we do have a lot of great
memories collected during these five years.
I invite all of you to:
 * take a look at our timeline:
   [1]http://www.cuerdaspulsadas.com/blog/nuestra-historia/
 * send us some words:
   [2]http://www.cuerdaspulsadas.com/blog/queremosescucharos/

And enjoy our promotions until 10th december: great discounts at our
website if you need strings for your instruments.

 Hi Bruno
It is true that Java is a security risk today - I by myself also
have closed Java in my browser. My calculator doesn't do any harm,
but I am afraid I forget to disallow Java, when I go to other pages.
I usually use my Javascript calculator, which is more restricted,
 but very useful, anyhow.
 See [4]http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/wikla/mus/Calcs/mc.html
If you wish to use the more general Java calculator, go first to
that page, allow Java, use the calc, and disallow Java _before_
 leaving the calculator page.
 I hope this helps,

[LUTE] lute and prostitution

2015-02-11 Thread David Morales
   Dear lute friends,
[[Apologies in advance for the commercial advertisement (we are
   offering huge discounts on strings)]]
Of all the symbols that the lute has meant throughout history,
pleasure, joy, eroticism, festive atmosphere, sensuality, harmony,
melancholy (Semper Dowland, semper dolens) ... there is a not so well
known, that was perfectly reflected by artists of the time.
So the lute, whose appointment in Flemish (luit) also means vagina
was a recognized emblem of prostitution and female sexuality, as is
perfectly clear in various artistic works of the German/Dutch school
(the same Vermeer, for example), or in literary texts of the time (the
   same Shakespeare, for example).
We analyze the relationship between female sexuality and the lute to
illustrate the great promotion for the purchase of strings at Cuerdas
   Pulsadas (up to 60% off).
You can read more about this interesting topic and find out about the
   promotion here:

Well, if one looks long enough on virtually any craft object, they
will eventually come up with some sort of idea that, in their mind,
 could have inspired the maker.
In the case of Franciolini though, it's much more down-to-earth, and
the only thing that comes to mind (I came across a couple of dozen
of such instruments over the years) is a profound disrespect and
distortion of any proper traditional craft and / or art. There is
something inherently ugly in the pieces that he (or whoever was
working for him) had made. They may appear to look like musical
instruments but in reality they are just useless junk, with no value
 whatsoever.

This looks like a rather typical 'master piece' by Leopoldo Franciolini
(late-19th - early-20th century dealer and forger). Although there is a
   view
that he occasionally used some genuine parts from old instruments
(personally, I very much doubt he did), there is nothing original on
   this
one, so both dates are irrelevant.
If I remember correctly, there is a very similar sort of 'oddity' in
   the
Museu de la Musica, Barcelona; also with inlaid body and early date.

 Hey guys,
I have written a script for UNIX operating systems that will take a
ASCII tab file and produce a decent postscript file using a2ps. I
have used it to route my tabs directly out to my high-res laserjet,
the work is really done by a2ps, the script just helps by automating
the process, like asking for / setting a composition title, whether
you want to export to file or printer, what you want to call the PS
file if you do export to file.. etc. I initially was working on a
tab editor that would run it's files out to a2ps, but I stopped. (I
still have the code... it works, but limited.) If anyone is running
UNIX (Linux, Solaris, OSX/BSD, whatever), I can pass this BASH
 script along, if interested.

examine receipts, guild records (eg string makers), diaries,

[LUTE] Re: Liuto attiorbato strings

2014-07-12 Thread David Morales
   Dear Bruno,
You can try the gamut's strings calculator. It suggests the following
   setup for liuto attiorbato (aA5Hz):

Thirteen Course Baroque Lute with Bass Extension
String length for first courses 1 - 7 on fingerboard in cm (Range
   68-82)
String length for courses 8 - 13 on extension (Range 70-130)
   f-1 329.63 4Kg
   d-2 277.18 3.8Kg A
   a-3 207.65 3.4KgA
   F-4 164.8 3KgA
   D-5 138.59 2.8Kg A
   A-6 103.83 2.7KgA
   a-6 207.65 2.7KgA
   G-7 92.5 2.6KgA
   g-7 185 2.6Kg
   F-8 82.4 2.6Kg A
   f-8 164.8 2.6KgA
   E-9 77.78 2.6KgA
   e-9 155.56 2.6KgA
   D-10 69.3 2.6KgA
   d-10 138.59 2.6KgA
   C-11 61.47 2.6KgA
   c-11 123.47 2.6KgA
   B-12 58.2 2.6KgA
   b-12 116.54 2.6KgA
   A-13 51.91 2.6KgA
   a-13 103.83 2.6Kg

So, as you can see, 2.6Kg is their proper tension for these courses.
Anyway, you can play with the calculator and adjust it to your

[LUTE] The Trujillo vihuelas

2014-04-25 Thread David Morales
This is one of the most interesting and exciting project in which
Cuerdas Pulsadas has been involved, and we are happy to share it with
   all of you.
A few months ago, John Griffiths shared with us a project that was
brewing in Trujillo (Caceres, Spain) ... The idea was so simple that it
seems crazy to us: students technology institute Francisco Orellana
were engaged in the construction of nine vihuelas, with no previous
knowledge of lutherie, without having previously known the instrument
and barely have materials and tools for a work of such magnitude ...
As we met the scope of the adventure we did not hesitate for a moment:
Cuerdas Pulsadas had to support this pioneering initiative and then we
offered all the help that was in our hand to bring it to success.
You can read all about this adventure in our blog:
   [1]http://cuerdaspulsadas.es/blog/las-vihuelas-de-trujillo/
There are also several photos and an interesting interview with the
   teacher.
We would like to congratulate the teacher (Fran Caballero) and his
students for all of this project, John Griffiths for its invaluable
help and the Sociedad de la Vihuela (Anibal Soriano) for its support.
   Kind regards.

These nine vihuelas are not made by amateur luthiers conducted by a
professional one. The real thing about this project is that all the
vihuelas are made by teenagers, living in a town in Spain, with no
previous idea of how a vihuela looks like or even what instrument it
is... this is about a teacher trying to do something different in his
classroom, with his students, without barely support and tools.
This is about how they get invaluable support from John Griffiths, in
the opposite corner of the earth!, how the students even build the
needed tools, how the Sociedad de la Vihuela gets also involved, and
how Cuerdas Pulsadas offered for free all the needed strings and
   frets... among other things.
I think that this is pretty nice!
   Kind regards.

[LUTE] Re: La Bella strings

2014-04-24 Thread David Morales
   Hi Edward,
I don't really know this set from La Bella, but you can read some info
about the oud sets made by Pyramid in our blog:
   [1]http://cuerdaspulsadas.es/blog/cuerdas-para-oud/
There you can see tuning, gauges and tension for both arabic and
   turkish setups. Hope that helps
   Regards.

   2014-04-24 11:12 GMT+02:00 Edward C. Yong [2]edward.y...@gmail.com:

 Hi lutelisters!
So a student of mine picked up a set of La Bella lute strings w
octaves and we strung up her Turkish-made 8-course lute (59cm string
 length) with them.
Then I noticed something very odd - the higher octaves were far too
loose at the correct pitch as they were flabby and flopped about.
Checking the diameters, I realised were basically the appropriate
diameters for tuning at TWO octaves above the fundamental. For
example, the nylon octave D on the 8th course was the same diameter
as the nylon D on the 2nd course.
Next, the tension on the bass courses seems far too low - they also
 flop about and buzz annoyingly.
This is quite perplexing - the tensions listed in the pdf on the La
Bella website already seem quite low, but when strung up, the
strings feel far looser than what is listed. Also, when I use Arto
Wikla's string calculator and feed in the density + string length +
diameter, the resulting tensions is significantly lower than what La
 Bella indicates.
I haven't used La Bella in nearly two decades. Can anyone advise if
 I'm imagining things?

[LUTE] Re: Question on String Tension

2013-12-18 Thread David Morales
Hi David, could you please tell me which gauges are you using? and
vibrating string length, too. Maybe that could help to understand your
   issue.
   Regards.

   2013/12/18 Sean Smith [1]lutesm...@mac.com

 Dear David,
I'm kind of slow in the math department but in my experience low
tensions strings _are_ more difficult to tune. When you get close to
the breaking point - ok, and just a bit shy of almost there - they
find that sweet spot rather nicely and you get a fine action around
the tuning peg, too. eg, a quarter turn will yield fewer cents of
change than at lower tension. That's just my experience. The higher
tension around the peg also helps your control of turning so having
pegs nicely fitted (and doped tho I almost never use it) will also
help. That sweet spot/tension gives a better tone and I think more
consistent. At lower than ideal tension the ring starts off higher
and tapers lower according to my tricorder.
Making sure your nut is well lubricated helps, too. Graphite is
popular but I like beeswax for less mark up.
The toughest time I ever had was a roped gut bass on a 4-course
guitar that was short to begin with (~40cm) and then tuning it down
 a tone for one piece.
 Sean

I have an 11 course lute where the 11^th course seems to be very
sensitive and difficult to get in tune. It is gut. No, I do not want
   to
use copper or silver wrapped strings.
So, my question is if there is a relationship between the sensitivity
of the frequency (pitch) to the tension of the string which would
indicate that the tension on my string is a bit low.
I did a chart of this in Mathematica taking the partial derivative of
the frequency as a function of tension equation (assuming all else
being equal) and it seems that frequency changes as 1 over the square
root of the tension. This implies that increasing the tension would
make the string be less sensitive to changes if frequency due to
   change
in tension - i.e. easier to tune.
Does this make sense to anyone or is it just noise? I am looking to
   see
if changing the string will have an effect on tunability and whether
   it
indicates a low or high tension change would be good.
Thanks for listening to the ramblings and any guidance you can
   provide.
These are expensive strings (Gut) so just experimenting is a bit
 spendy.

I know his father bought Bream his first lute off the back of a
sailor, he was carrying it One day in 1947, his dad was walking
 down
Charing Cross Road and met a sailor carrying a lute. It would
 become a
key moment for British postwar music. He asked: 'What is that?'
 The
sailor told him. 'How much?' 'Couple of quid it's yours.' He
 gave the
instrument to Julian, who repaired and mastered it. Long before
 Sting
fingered his first lute and crooned his first Dowland, Bream was
 the
instrument's postwar pioneer.
Nylon for the guitar was availablel around 1947 thanks to dupont.
Several weeks later, when Segovia returned from the tour, Gen.
Lindenman presented him with a large package of guitar strings.
 I have
some friends in the DuPont family, and they had the strings
 analyzed
and tried to duplicate them with nylon.
Segovia put a set on his guitar, tuned them up, played a few
 scales and
chords--and smiled! This is a new day for the classic guitar,
 he
pronounced.
DuPont did not want to make the strings themselves, but they
 would
supply the necessary technology and materials to anyone who
 would. The
first to come forward was a man named Albert Augustine, and
 Augustine
strings were the first nylon guitar strings to appear on the
 market.

Just to be sure, he used nails on _gut_? Ragossinig, too? When I
played those records in my childhood I always assumed they were
   nylon
strings. When would JB and KR have moved to nylon?

[LUTE] new Nylgut strings

2013-06-16 Thread David Morales
Sorry for starting a new thread, first of all, i have just joined the
list so i can't reply to the original thread about nylgut strings.
For all of you who don't know me, i'm the owner of Cuerdas Pulsadas
([1]www.cuerdaspulsadas.com) and we had this issue about 10 months ago
(strings break as soon as they were tuned).
Finally, Aquila Corde confirm us that there was a production problem in
some batches and gauges until 0.50 were affected. They send us new and
fixed strings and then we send the replacements to our customers .
After that, all strings from Aquila came with a little stick on the
envelope in wich you can check the batch details (month and year, for
   example).
And, most important, the probleam dissapears. We don't have any
complaint since then. So, keep in mind that it was a specific issue and
   that it's already fixed.
