Re: Caption labelling problems
Sorry, I can't seem to replicate this problem. I have tried culling my thesis to a reasonable size and it seems to work fine with the smaller file. Even in my thesis it works sometimes, but not others. It is possible that I have somewhere put a command that has stuffed up the labelling? Thanks anyway. Problem with captions in floats
I am using LyX 1.2.0, and have come across a rather annoying problem with captions. In order to insert an EPS file in my document I follow the procedure outline in paragraph 4.3.1.1 of the LyX User's Guide. Once the figure is inserted, still inside the float I type a carriage return at the end of the inserted figure and change to the Caption mode, so that the caption itself appears below the figure. Next, I add my label for the figure, and the text of the caption. At this point everything looks all right at the LyX window. If I view my document by doing View -> DVI or View -> Postscript from the main menu, the figure appears just as expected. The problem is, when I print the resulting Postscript file, the captions are printed each in a page on their own. I have tried in four different printers, with the same results. I guess there is some problem with my printer software, but I would like to know if the way in which I am inserting the EPS files first, and create the captions afterwards, is correct. Feedback will be much appreciated. __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now. http://mailplus.yahoo.com

It is possible to have floats that don't float: 1. Upgrade to LyX 1.2.3 2. Click with the right mosue button on the float, and select the "Here, definitely" button. If you want ALL your float to have this behavior, without changing each float, then put "H" in the Float placement text box in the document dialog, and add \usepackage{float} to the preamble. Note that using non-floating floats is a bad idea. If, for example, your text fills 70% of the page, and you add a non-floating float whose height is 50% of the page, then the result will be a page break that will leave an ugly vertical space on the page.
Problem with comments in ERT
I am using Lyx 1.2.1 and am having problems with comments in TeX code blocks. The issue is that latex2html requires: %begin{latexonly} and %end{latexonly} to be at the start of the line. However, Lyx 1.2.1 bundles all ERT into a single line, causing problems. I can tell because I did an export to TeX and looked at the output. The only workaround I have found is to add a hard carriage return (Control-Enter) in the ERT _before_ the comment. Actually, I can't put only a hard carriage return. I must have a space, then the hard carriage return. The comments used to work fine without the work around in LyX 1.X. -- Bruce Momjian| http://candle.pha.pa.us [EMAIL PROTECTED]| (610) 359-1001 + If your life is a hard drive, | 13 Roberts Road + Christ can be your backup.| Newtown Square, Pennsylvania 19073
RE: placement of figures/floats
> how do I place figures which are included in floats exactly > where they > should be in a text? "float" means you want LaTeX to move the figure to its idea of the "best" location. If that is not what you want, don't use a "float"! I used "floats" because I want to have a caption under the figure. If I put some text in the caption environment outside of floats I get the error msg: "can't use caption outside floats". Is there a way of getting a caption outside of a float? Citations showing as (?), a possible solution?
Dear list. This may be useful users of Lyx operating under Windows and/or those converting Endnote to Bibtex Having exported a bib file from Endnote and after opening and re-saving with TKbibtex I found that citations in the dvi/pdf showed as (?) However, a second manually created bib fie worked fine in the same document with all refs showing correctly. The exported bib file held keyword, note and abstract details and once these had been removed from the file everything worked fine. The exported bib file was only small and removing offending items not a problem. However for a larger bib file this may take time. So, I have knocked together a vb6 program that removes such headings + contents from the bib file leaving a file that works ok. If any one is interested I can email a full setup copy (1.4Mb) to them or if they have vb6 then just the source code (37kb) Regards Rob
very small Pb in lyx-1.3pre2 build
hello, I have build lyx-1.3pre2 with qt frontend on my mandrake distribution. the only pb was the version of autoconf which is 2.52d. So the place for a letter should be added to the $autoversion test in autogen.sh file: case $autoversion in *2.13) ... *2.5[2346][d]) ... I don't know if other letters have to be added. qt frontend seems to work fine , thanks for the great works ! -- Roger GADIOU Laboratoire de Gestion des Risques et Environnement 25, rue de Chemnitz tel: 03 89 32 76 59, fax: 03 89 32 76 61

There are about 8 people with CVS write access. In general these people can commit obvious patches and patches in their own code without approval. During freeze time, patches are generally approved before applying. Patches etc. from other people are applied by one of these people after the patch is posted to the development list. We generally rely on LaTeX support first, typically in the form of a LaTeX class. Do it after the toc, and you get the page number after the toc. > As a result the TOC referenced > it's last page and not where it started. Yes, because these lists are a form of "chapters" which starts a new page. > While the > TOC does not need to be in the TOC (as if you were reading it you had > found it) but I would like to get the list of figures, list of tables > correct. Take a look at class options first. I don't know about "book", but "scrbook" support options like bibtotoc, figurestotoc and similiar. Perhaps book have something similiar, or perhaps you can switch to scrbook (koma-script book) with no pain? > I am using class book. I have not had any trouble with this > using class report as I inserted the page breaks myself. Any ideas on > how to fix this up in class book As a last resort, redefine the commands that produce toc, list of figures, etc. This isn't nearly as hard as it sounds. Here's how: For example, lets redefine \listoffigures. To do this, you want to know the current definition of \listoffigures, because you probably don't know how to re-implement it. Getting this is trivial: Start latex with no parameters. (I.e. type "latex" in a xterm) You should get something like this, possibly a different version: This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.3.7) ** type in \documentclass{book} You should get another "*" prompt. Type in \show\listoffigures And there it is! Put all of it in the preamble of your document. Test it (view dvi or similiar) to see that you didn't make any mistakes cutting and pasting it. When this works flawlessly, change the definition by putting your \addcontentsline{} somewhere in the middle of it. If you know some latex you'll see a good spot. If not - experiment. Too early and you get the "page before" problem, too late and you'll get the "last page" problem. Look for a place in the macro after the new page/chapter has started, before the actual listing begins. Somewhere around the heading perhaps. Make sure to put your \addcontentsline between other commands, not in the middle of one. Helge Hafting
