vertical alignment in table-cells

2003-09-12 Thread Jan W. Schemm
Hi,

I have a little problem concerning the vertical alignment of text in
table-cells (Lyx 1.3.0). Basically I defined a table with 2 columns, the
first column containing simple text and the second column containing small
diagrams using the psmatrix-command. The problem is that the text in the
first column appears at the bottom of the cell. I tried to set the vertical
alignment to top or center as explained in

http://www.damek.kth.se/~chr/lyx/Herbert/table.html#valign

but without any success. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve
that problem!

Thanks in advance

Add empty text (ERT: {}) in front of the graphics-cell. Make the vertical

2003-09-12 Thread Jorgen Johansson
Hello again,

I am not sure what was going on, but I noticed in the about box that qt
lyx was not using the shared library under its own installation. It was
using the shared libraries for the lyx 1.3.1 version (under cygwin).

I renamed temporary my cygwin directory to something else so the qt lyx
can not find it. Now I don't need any to set explicitly the converters
it works out of the box.

I guess there is some problem with my path since renaming the cywin
directory temporary fixed the problem.

However, one thing that others have found successful is ensuring that
imagemagick convert.exe is in your path BEFORE any windows directories.
This is because of the system32 similarly named convert.exe being found
first and trying to convert the image into a FAT32 or NFTS file system!!

Even this though has not resolved the problem for me. Now I just use
.eps images throughout and put up with not viewing them in the lyx gui
but rely on viewing them in the DVI preview instead.

Hello,

I wonder if imagemagick has to be installed as a part of cygwin or can
I

use the native windows imagemagick when I want use the native qt lyx
1.3.2 on windows XP?
I tried installing a couple of months ago and couldn't get it to work
(the image conversion) I debugged and was also in contact with Ruurd
Reitsma directly. No solution back then.
I tried tonight again and same error.

Was the problem that I need the cygwin version of imagemagick?.

For my lyx 1.3.1 under cygwin I am using the native windows version of
imagemagick. One would think it would work with the native qt version
of

 Lyx as well then.

Sorry. I'm an idiot. convert.exe on my machine is the Windows

Turns out that I had not compiled and installed ImageMagick on that

I compiled and installed the latest ImageMagick under Cygwin and now

As with any package, the first thing you need to do is make it available
to LaTeX. Put it somewhere inside your LaTeX distribution (on my
computer this is /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/ but it could be different
on yours). Then run the command texhash (without the quotes) to update
LaTeX. Note: you may need to be logged in as root/admin to do this.

Using it in LyX depends on whether it's supported by LyX. If it is,
then all you have to do is click Edit-Reconfigure, then restart LyX and
you can use it just like any other document class. If it isn't, then you
will need to put LaTeX commands in your Preamble (in LyX 1.3.* you get
there from Layout-Document). If there's any documnetation with the
package, read it and see what it asks you to do. If not, try putting

 \usepackage{parallel.sty}

in the preamble and see what happens.

Viewing the .eps works fine. E. g. I can insert a converter line in
preferences like
\converter eps ppm gswin32c.exe -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=ppmraw
-r72 -sOutputFile=$$o -c save pop -f $$i
which results in a preview of the eps in lyx but in disrespect of the
bounding box of the eps. So around a tiny eps there's always the huge
DINA4 whitespace.

GS works therefore and I can also convert jpg or bmp to other formats
with ImageMagick, it's just that both don't work together properly.

Re: Printing using Aqua-Lyx

2003-09-12 Thread Tomoharu Nishino

Hi:

I am a newbie with Lyx and have played with it for little more than an
hour but fail printing.

I think that I installed all the bits and pieces indicated in the
Lyx/Mac web page: gimp-print, esp ghostscript. I have also set the
name of my printer which I found in /private/etc/printcap, and have
configured textconfig (as indicated in the User's guide).
You do not indicate whether or not you properly installed all of the
LaTeX components necessary to use LyX. (I am guessing from the fact
that the Print option is dimmed that you do not have the necessary
components properly set up.)

To check to see that you have LyX and all the necessary components of
TeX/LaTeX properly installed, do this:
1. Edit--Reconfigure
2. Restart LyX
3. Open (or create) a short document.
4. Click on the View menu. At the top of the menu you should see DVI,
PDF, PDF (dvipdfm), PDF (pdflatex),... If you do not see these options
to preview the document, you most likely do not have LaTeX properly set
up.

Alternatively, you can open up the Console application right after
you do step 1, and view the log to see whether LyX has found the
necessary LaTeX components.

If LaTeX is not properly installed, please see my website
http://www.la.utexas.edu/~tnishino/osx_lyx/ for detailed instructions
on installing the various necessary components to use LyX-Aqua.

Yet the print option of the file menu is dimmed. Also, the Lyx/Mac
web page indicates that one can also print by previewing pdf and
printing from preview. I did not even found how one previews with
pdf...

Any help would be appreciated...
jp
Assuming you have everything properly set up, to view the document
using Preview, this is what you need to do. Open the Preferences to
File formats. In each of the PDF entries set the viewer to open -a
Preview. Remember to click modify to get LyX to register the change,
and save to make the Preference change permanent.

(Similarly, if you want to use Acrobat, you can enter open -a Acrobat
instead.)

Then with the document you want to preview open, select View--PDF from
the menus. This should compile the document, launch the Preview app,
and display the fully formatted document.

Hope this helps.

vertical alignment in table-cells

 \usepackage{parallel.sty}

in the preamble and see what happens.

Yet the print option of the file menu is dimmed. Also, the Lyx/Mac

printing from preview.

Make the vertical
alignment of the cell be center too. Dvi-output should be ok.

Now I don't need any to set explicitly the converters
it works "out of the box".

\converter "png" "eps" "convert PNG:$$i EPS:$$o" ""

Sorry. I'm an idiot. "convert.exe" on my machine is the Windows

I compiled and installed the latest ImageMagick under Cygwin and now

A very comfortable solution is the tex2pdf script, which uses hyperref,

As with any package, the first thing you need to do is make it available
to LaTeX. Put it somewhere inside your LaTeX distribution (on my
computer this is /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/ but it could be different
on yours). Then run the command "texhash" (without the quotes) to update
LaTeX. Note: you may need to be logged in as root/admin to do this.

Using it in LyX depends on whether it's supported by LyX. If it is,
then all you have to do is click Edit->Reconfigure, then restart LyX and
you can use it just like any other document class. If it isn't, then you
will need to put LaTeX commands in your Preamble (in LyX 1.3.* you get
there from Layout->Document). If there's any documnetation with the
package, read it and see what it asks you to do. If not, try putting

 \usepackage{parallel.sty}

in the preamble and see what happens.

> Can you view the .eps somehow else? With gsview for instance?
Viewing the .eps works fine. E. g. I can insert a converter line in
preferences like
\converter "eps" "ppm" "gswin32c.exe -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=ppmraw
-r72 -sOutputFile=$$o -c save pop -f $$i" ""
which results in a preview of the eps in lyx but in disrespect of the
bounding box of the eps. So around a tiny eps there's always the huge
DINA4 whitespace.

GS works therefore and I can also convert jpg or bmp to other formats
with ImageMagick, it's just that both don't work together properly.

(I am guessing from the fact
that the "Print" option is dimmed that you do not have the necessary
components properly set up.)

To check to see that you have LyX and all the necessary components of
TeX/LaTeX properly installed, do this:
1. "Edit-->Reconfigure"
2. Restart LyX
3. Open (or create) a short document.
4. Click on the View menu. At the top of the menu you should see DVI,
PDF, PDF (dvipdfm), PDF (pdflatex),... If you do not see these options
to preview the document, you most likely do not have LaTeX properly set
up.

Alternatively, you can open up the "Console" application right after
you do step 1, and view the log to see whether LyX has found the
necessary LaTeX components.

If LaTeX is not properly installed, please see my website
http://www.la.utexas.edu/~tnishino/osx_lyx/ for detailed instructions
on installing the various necessary components to use LyX-Aqua.

Yet the print option of the file" menu is dimmed. Also, the Lyx/Mac
web page indicates that one can also print by previewing pdf and
printing from preview. I did not even found how one previews with
pdf...

Any help would be appreciated...

Assuming you have everything properly set up, to view the document
using Preview, this is what you need to do. Open the Preferences to
"File formats". In each of the PDF entries set the viewer to "open -a
Preview". Remember to click modify to get LyX to register the change,
and save to make the Preference change permanent.

(Similarly, if you want to use Acrobat, you can enter "open -a Acrobat"
instead.)

Then with the document you want to preview open, select View-->PDF from
the menus. This should compile the document, launch the Preview app,
and display the fully formatted document.

Hope this helps.
