Help Please
Hi thanks for the responses they have been most useful. I have a few questions below: I have decided to use the Manchester Uni thesis format as its very near the London Uni version. I think I am running into unnecessary difficulties because I am using my existing directory structure and Lyx has a preferred in /Library/Application Support/Lyx-2.3. I have not found a preferred structure is there one? I am stripping out the bits I don’t want from the Thesis Template such as figures , headings , labels etc all have an index of some form where should these be stored & how do I ensure these are reset or can I copy the template into the template subdirectory , which is currently empty and then start a new doc from this. I have loaded revtex4-1 into the shared area subdir but cannot see it from the Doc/settings in the lyx main menu should it be there? I like the use of Letterine for the first char of a section, how is this \lettrine{I}{n}and the following invoked :-- Figure~\ref{shuffle_diagram}; \label{Shuffle} and where is the definitions of these –I have not found (yet) where this is described an indication where I could look would be helpful. I suspect they are under the Lyx-Code environment in the dropdown top lefthand side of menu – but there is no list below it. Sorry for these simple questions but I need to complete this soon Many Thanks Brian K-- lyx-users mailing list lyx-users@lists.lyx.org http://lists.lyx.org/mailman/listinfo/lyx-users

BTW: the following error report is missing one important piece: the top line with the non-defined command. (In this case I guess it is \ofoot, as you seem to have used it before loading the defining scrpage2 package.) I added that line to the top of my latex preamble. I get this error trying to build a pdf: The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue, and I'll forget about whatever was undefined. Günter

Yes. Her teachers do not care about these things, they just think it's an error. They want all numbers on the same place. two columns abbreviation help please
Hi, I am trying to write my thesis I am having problem with putting a list of abbreviation in two columns properly. I am using fncychap package and which I think is causing the problem instead of filling the first column properly the entries goes in the second column and even above the heading. I tried to the used some of the option of multicol package but wasn't able to fix this. If I don’t use two columns than the situation is fine. The code that I have used is below and I am using koma script report \begin{multicols}{2} \printnomenclature[2mm] \end{multicols} I have attached the pdf file of how the output look right now Thanks for the help 11.pdf Description: Adobe PDF document

But many things you are using as TeX code can already be done directly with LyX, for example \clearpage and the nomenclature stuff. I cleaned it a bit up in the attached file. Furthermore are you using a lot of LaTeX-packages that do basically the same. For example are you using a koma-script document class, therefore you don't need to load packages like tocbibind and caption. Koma-script provides all the features of these packages. The more LaTeX-packages and TeX code you are using the problems you can get until you are not exactly knowing what you code. I guess that either the packages fncychap and nomenclature don't work well together or that one your (undocumented) preamble settins cause the problems. Sorry that I cannot help your further, but your preamble is much to complicated to understand it within 10 minutes. regards Uwe test_abb.lyx Description: application/lyx

mac png to eps help please
Hello, Recently I upgraded hard drives and after discussion on the list that texlive is the way to go, I decided to install texlive rather that tetex via Fink. However, now when I try ps2pdf I get an error that there is no converter for png to eps, but the document compiles just fine with pdflatex. I've installed texlive via mactex with ghostscript and imagemagick via i-installer. I've added /usr/texbin to the lyx path and I've run texhash and reconfigured LyX multiple times. I'm running LyX 1.4.3 on mac 10.4.8. What do I need to do to get this to work? Thanks, Bob Lounsbury

Help Please! Lyx 1.4.3 for windows Crashes after installation
Hello All, I have been trying to install Lyx1.4.3 (released Oct 4) for windows for the last two days, unfortunately after more than five attempts (install, uninstall, reinstall) I still cannot launch Lyx application successfully. Here are my installation steps: - downloaded lyx-143-4-bundle.exe - followed installation instructions - updated Miktex - ATTEMPTED to launch Lyx for the first time then each time I get an error message Lyx has been closed because of an unexpected situation. This is most likely caused by a flaw in the software. When you open your documents again, you will be able to restore an emergency save and continue working. The details about the error are WindowsError: [Error 2] The system cannot find the path specified: 'C\\winnt\\sy... Lyx:Done! LyxTextClassList::Read:unable to find textclass file `'. Exiting. I used to have Lyx1.3.7 installed it worked fine. Thanks so much for your help!!! Wei

Hello I just installed WinXP Lyx-1.4.3-5 but I can't get aspell to work. I think I followed instructions in previous messages: I answered this the first time. You can find the answer (in two parts) archived at http://article.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.general/33978/ and http://article.gmane.org/gmane.editors.lyx.general/33985/. Unless you mean that this did not work for you? /Paul but still no luck. What I do is:1. uninstall old Lyx2. install new LyX - this creates aspell directory in c:\3. install aspell dictionaries4. copy files from Aspell\lib\aspell-0.60 to Aspell\DictionariesWhen I try checking spelling Lyx says: The spellchecker could not be startedNo word lists can be found for the language en_US.Any suggestions?Thank youLeo

Problems installing spell checker using installer for llyx-143-4 - Help please!
This is the second time. No response the first time. Surely someone has used the lyx 143-4 installer. If not surely someone know who to contact. Anyway as I said before I am trying to install the latest version lyx-143-4 using the installer program and failed to download spellchecker. The message during the installation says 'failed to download English spell checker- would you like to try again'. Clearly problems accessing the host from the web. How do I install spellchecker separately once lyx has been set up? What is the procedure? Any suggestions as to what to do? Help please.
