aspell and ispell are correctly installed.

testing 1.4.0pre3. Now, with pre5, I not need keymap

With this I discovered that an option of Preferences

With (aspell or lyx 1.3.x) and (Use Input Encoding) I

Thanks to all. I am very happy.

Did you install dictionaries for aspell as well?
Installing aspell only installs the executable
program. It does not install any dictionaries, you
must do that too before you can spellcheck.

What happens if you create a short plaintext file
with some spelling errors and run
aspell test.txt
on the command line?
If this doesn't work, then aspell cannot possibly

work with lyx either. If this works but lyx
spellchecking doesn't, then the problem is in lyx somehow.

I forgot to mention something. You have a new hard disk.
You need to install your LyX helper programs (Aspell etc.)
before installing LyX. Otherwise LyX can't incorporate them.

If you installed Aspell after LyX, then Lyx doesn't know about it.
You would need to go to LyX->Edit->Reconfigure in order to
update LyX's awareness that Aspell (or other apps) is now installed.
You should still manually (not in LyX) check that Aspell works.

I'll bet you a dollar to a donut* that you have a dictionary problem,
Stephen

*In the olden days in the US a dollar used to be worth more than
the cost of a donut so I would be laying favorable odds to you.

Your lyx installation is clearly broken, perhaps a
reinstall
is in place. What operating system do you use, how
did
you install lyx?

If you get lyx itself working fine (with menu) but
still
have trouble with the spellchecker, ask again.

Be systematic with your troubleshooting. Make a small
file of misspelled words. Test that Aspell works all by
itself. From the command line in your Aspell directory
containing mispelled.txt type: aspell -c misspelled.txt
If you have the Aspell program and a dictionary installed,
this should start checking that file for spelling errors. LyX
can't use Aspell unless Aspell works first, all by itself.

This way you can tell if the spellchecker itself is not
working or if it is a problem with LyX. Does your
spellchecker recognize the tilde over ene? Misspell
anos in your misspelled.txt list of words and see if
the missing tilde is recognized. If not the problem is
probably your dictionary. That does not eliminate
the possibility that there might be a problem later
with LyX. But if not standalone, then not with LyX.
With Linux you can have multiple dicts but there is
probably a config file for that covered in Aspell docs.

Stephen

Common problem for unicode users, because
lyx doesn't support unicode. That cause trouble
when the spellchekcer expects unicode while lyx
gives it iso8859 encoded text.

echo $LANG

Strange. If the menu isn't translated, then you
should get
it in english instead. This looks like a broken
installation.

a icon bar, I clicked icon for file open

and I get error in conversion.
Then I open with lyx (from icon),
deleted list of fig,
repeat process and when I open the file
lyx go out (aborted) with an error message.
Which is the date when You expect lyx 1.5.0 will be
released?

I can only guess - a year or two. The spellchecker
and rest of lyx is supposed to work fine when LANG
doesn't contain the UTF-8 part though.

What can I do? I need run spellcheck.

Your lyx installation is clearly broken, perhaps a reinstall
is in place. What operating system do you use, how did
you install lyx?

The menu should never ever disappear. Get that working,
then look at the spellchecker.

What version of lyx is this? You may get in trouble if
you mix lyx-1.4pre and earlier versions, as they may want to
use the same directories. Particularly .lyx/ in your
home directory, assuming that you're on linux (or other unix).

Things to try:
1. rename .lyx to .lyx-old
rename the .lyx directory in your home directory
to something like .lyx-old. Then run lyx, and see if
things gets better. This may work as running lyx-1.4
may overwrite some stuff in the .lyx directory, so it
don't work too well with lyx-1.3 anymore.
Note that any customization will be lost this way, but
you can find all customized stuff in .lyx-old/ and
copy items over one by one.

2. reinstall lyx
If you tried lyx 1.4 briefly and now wants to use lyx 1.3 again,
do reinstall lyx 1.3 even if it seems to exist on your pc.
This because the test install of lyx 1.4 may have overwritten
some of lyx-1.3's files. If your package manager don't want
to reinstall, remove lyx and then reinstall it.
The latest lyx 1.3 is now lyx 1.3.7. This version works better
with files from lyx-1.4 than the older versions of lyx-1.3 do.

If you get lyx itself working fine (with menu) but still
have trouble with the spellchecker, ask again.

The lack of unicode should not prevent you from using
ñ, you merely have to use an encoding where the ñ exist.
Unicode will allow all symbols in the same document, so
it becomes possible to mix russian, lating and greek letters
at the same time.

With this encoding are ok but
this no work well for me.
With aspell and ispell from command line
word are read break in several times
like this:

En la mañana del 16 de dici
embre de 1793 ...

diciembre (December) appears break
and is not recognized.
Aspell, and ispell, read dici first,
not in dictionary, then read embre,
again not en dictionary.
This, plus a lot of latex and lyx command
make the work very dificult.

If you are a Linux user, you can try starting aspell in console-mode by
entering at the command prompt:

aspell -c --encoding=iso8859-1 filename.lyx

whereby filename.lyx should be replaced by the name of the file to be
spell-checked. This works for me with documents written in Finnish and
containing special characters like ä and ö causing problems when
spellchecking is made in LyX. If your special characters are still not
recognised, you may try other encodings.

Kind regards,
Kimmo
