Dropbox isn't secure enough for just about anything. SpiderOak seems to take an approach---if you read their corporate descriptions---in which they have no access whatsoever to your data. In this sense, everything is being scrambled since the moment it leaves your computer and you're the only one holding the key to decrypt the data. The obverse is also true: lose your password, and you lose access to your data permanently. This said, I understand your concerns. I do not trust patient related data or important data onto a server I do not have control over. My MacMinis at the practice and at home each have Time Machine running and talk to each other with Unison. My MacBookAir talks to the one at home with Unison, anytime I open or close it, and before and after I travel with it I run Time Machine on the little HD I take with. el On 9/17/11 10:00 PM, Liviu Andronic wrote: [...] > For automatic (and very frequent) backups I use SpiderOak, although > many people are happy with Dropbox. Re: LyX: Document Format Failure
Hi el, Thanks for your advice. I will definitely need to use some sort of backup for my coming thesis. Re: LyX: Document Format Failure
I do all important stuff with Version Control, synchronize with Unison to at least two other machines, and all have Time Machine running, the Airbook however not as frequently as the other two. Similar mechanisms exist for Windoze and Linux. el On 9/17/11 5:11 PM, VNK wrote: > Hi Richard, > > I've done what you said. The problem is solved. Thank you. > > Best regard, > VNK

We take the file format integrity seriously. As Richard said this is quite unusual and so the suspect is a corruption by other methods. Regardless I will take your file to dissect it in order to find the real culprit. Regards, -- José Matos

Re: LyX: Document Format Failure
Hi Liviu, I have no idea why there is a missing \end_layout. I have never edited the source of the lyx file before, how can that line be missing? This afternoon I managed to open the lyx file in my way (described in the previous messages) and re-composed the report. Really time consuming and frustrated, but it's done by now. I do not dare to try the solution you provided. Anyway, thanks for your help. This is what I get when opening from a terminal on Linux: liv@liv-laptop:/tmp$ lyx-svn Lab1.lyx Paragraph ended in line 5187 Missing \end_layout. Paragraph ended in line 5306 Missing \end_layout. Error: Document format failure /tmp/Lab1.lyx ended unexpectedly, which means that it is probably corrupted. I'm no expert in the LyX file format so couldn't help you further. Regards Liviu
Re: LyX: Document Format Failure
Hi, Sorry, that's my fault. It's LyX-2.0.0-3-Installer.exe Please take a look at the file http://imghost.ucoz.org/upload2/Lab1.rar Right now I cannot upload the inserted images because the wifi signal is very weak. I suspect the problem is related to the inserted figures because when I open the lyx file with notepad++ and delete most of the sections containing figures, I can open it without error.
