Also, Section 5.3 of the Customization document under LyX help has both on introductory and advanced information on layouts. typos in koma-letter2.lyx template preamble can cause errors
I've been working on learning more about KOMAScript classes and found a problem with the preamble that comes with the LyX koma-letter2 template (and has for some time). The preamble has a number of options in the \KOMAoptions section, including these lines: %pagenumber=botcenter% position of the page number (see docu) %,parskip=false% Use indent instead of skip (more options cf. docu) fromalign=center%alignment of the address The problem is that the first and third lines of this excerpt from the preamble lack leading commas (the KOMAoptions are comma delimited). If you uncomment the parskip option by removing the leading % then it gets parsed together with the fromalign option (because fromalign lacks a leading comma) and generates an 'undefined control sequence' error. Another confusion is that 'parskip=false' is the default for this document class. If you want a block style letter with no indents and a space between paragraphs you need to change this option to 'parskip=true'. -- Rich

Hi John, This message means that the LaTeX document class needed by the layout is not available. You can install these using the MikTeX package manager. Simply search for the required package name and then click on install. Once you have installed the needed LaTeX packages, then you can reconfigure LyX and things should work. For more information on how LyX and LaTeX work together, see the first section of this article: http://blog.oak-tree.us/index.php/2009/11/02/custom-lyx-nih The section is entitled, "Understanding the Big Picture". Hi, I just installed MiKTeX 2.8 and LyX 1.6. Whenever I try to open some templates in LyX I get the following message: "the layout file requested by this document, aa.layout, is not usable. This is probably because a LaTeX class or style file required by it is not available. See the Customization documentation for more information. LyX will not be able to produce output." I also get "No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex)." when I try to view PDF. I have seen many suggested fixes online such as reconfiguring LyX but none have worked. lyx template wanted: journal or conference abstracts
Hello, a quick question: Is there a template for Lyx preparing journal or conference abstracts? Sometimes we write abstracts for conference presentation before the articles are written or the presentation is approved to be held. Therefore, just taking the article class and use the environments author, title, date, abstract wouldn't help. Often, these abstracts need to fit on one page (1x DIN A4). So far, I found this: http://journals.iucr.org/f/services/latexstyle.html Thanks in advance for your input, Timmie

Not easily. g-brief is not our package, we cannot simply change it (the LPPL, the license of the package, allows changes only if the file is distributed under a different name, e.g. g-brief-lyx.cls). Re: standard Lyx template/example does not work (?)
Also sprach sk: > OK that worked > my marvosym.sty is newer than yours, might there be the problem? Yes. Indeed. > \newcommand\Telefon{\mvchr{84}} Here's the problem. My version uses \def\Telefon{\mvchr{84}} which overrides g-brief's definition silently, while \newcommand results in an error, if the macro is already defined.[1] I guess this has been done by default, in order to "inform" the user that a file definition is overridden. The easiest fix is probably to replace the \newcommand by \def. This keeps the Symbol available in principle (for other apllications). Jürgen [1] The procedure goes as follows: 1. gbrief defines \Telefon 2. then gbrief loads marvosym, which defines \Telefon as well 3. right after that, g-brief defines \Telefon again The error happens in step 2.

I am using the absolute latest lyx 1.4.2 and miktex after a complete and clean reinstall with the standard lyx 1.4.2 installer for windows. It did not work after this install, so I updated the Miktex with the miktex package updater on 14.august.2006. The g-brief-de still did not work. By the way, my g-brief has the same version (4.0.1) at least according to the releasenotes and dates of the files. why does this Marvosym \Telefon bugfix in g-brief-de not work for me anymore? Maybe soemthing new in MikTex or Latex prevents the overriding of the Marvosym \Telefon definition by g-Brief? Re: standard Lyx template/example does not work (?)
Thanks for the fast reply, The suggested solution worked perfect! PLEASE NOTE HOWEVER that the name of the file is "marvosym.sty" (in windows standard installation it rests in C:\texmf\tex\latex\marvosym\) and NOT "mavrosym.sty" as mentioned in the other Mail (probably a typo) ...I only found out because the second time I searched for the file I made the 'right' typo myself... I have two more questions though: 1) How would I figure out that the error comes from marvosym.sty, as it is not mentioned in the errormessage? 2) Will this problem be resolved with future versions of miktex or lyx? Because after all it comes as a template with the lyx installation and thus should work "out of the box". thanks again Stephan TechTonics wrote: > I saw this problem mentioned not so long ago > and this is all I know about it. > > > > Telefon double definition in g-brief and mavrosym > > Michael Hartje > Fri, 04 Aug 2006 14:29:26 -0700 > > dear readers, > > may be this is not lyx but TeX error. You can't just turn it off, because the opening command does not only the opening, but invokes also all other stuff in the letter (headings, foldmarks etc.). One solution: instead of an actual opening phrase, write \vspace*{-3\baselineskip} (in ERT) into the opening line (you might want to adjust the length, which shrinks the distance by 3 lines in the example). You can save this as a template for your letters. HTH, Jürgen
Modifying the koma-letter2 lyx template
Hi, I am not sure if I ask this question on the right list, so please point me to another list if this is the wrong place. I am using the koma-letter2 lyx template, which works very well, but I am looking for a way to turn off the opening section, when writing formal letters. Is this possible? I have looked at the lyx template code but I cant find any options for it. If its not possible I am looking for a lyx template for writing letters close to the style koma-letter2 provides. Download and install the the ws-acs.cls in your latex tree. Run texhash (if you use tetex). Copy your (your path may vary) /usr/local/share/lyx/layout/ijmpd.layout to /usr/local/share/lyx/layout/ws-acs.layout and change the second line from # \DeclareLaTeXClass[ws-ijmpd]{article (ijmpd)} to # \DeclareLaTeXClass[ws-acs]{article (ws-acs)} save the file. Run reconfigure in LyX from Edit->reconfigure and restart Lyx and chose article(ws-acs). This should work if there are no other differences between the two. But I have not tried, so no guarantees :). Lyx template for ACS (World Scientific)
Dear Lyx Team: I am writing a paper and preparing to submit it to Advances in Complex Systems (ACS), a journal published by World Scientific. I found that the format of ACS is consistent with International Journal of Modern Physics D (also published by ws), which is supported by the ijmpd package (described herehttp://nuclear.gla.ac.uk/computing/LyX_doc/Extended.html#tth_chAp1). The only difference is the format of references. Could you give me a hint how to modify the ijmpd package so that I can use the new template for ACS? If the modification is not possible, could you help create such a template? The ACS's LaTeX template files can be found here: http://www.tbi.univie.ac.at/ACS/TemplateFiles.html Thank you very much.
