Hi Jose,

A good starting point for this is: https://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/CreatingLayouts

Referring this page: If you are a beginner, a simple layout file in the form of

#% Do not delete the line below; configure depends on this
#  \DeclareLaTeXClass[acmsiggraph]{ACM SigGraph}

# Read the definitions from article.layout
Input article.layout

will suffice. You will be putting many information into preamble and in the
main file using ERT. You will do several try-and-errors to make it work, but if
you are careful, this should be at most one days of work for beginners (this is
my experience). Please note that class-specific styles, environments and
commands will not be immediately available under LyX menus and options.
However, they will work in the preamble and in the main file by ERT.

Also, Section 5.3 of the Customization document under LyX help has both on
introductory and advanced information on layouts. If you have time, placing the
class-specific styles, environments and other commands into the LyX menus
should not be that difficult. Look at some layout files that come with LyX and
try-and-error with Section 5.3.7 and other sections of the Customization file.

Good Luck.

typos in koma-letter2.lyx template preamble can cause errors

2016-06-05 Thread Richard Talley
I've been working on learning more about KOMAScript classes and found a
problem with the preamble that comes with the LyX koma-letter2 template
(and has for some time).

The preamble has a number of options in the \KOMAoptions section, including
these lines:

%pagenumber=botcenter% position of the page number (see docu)
%,parskip=false% Use indent instead of skip (more options cf. docu)
fromalign=center%alignment of the address

The problem is that the first and third lines of this excerpt from the
preamble lack leading commas (the KOMAoptions are comma delimited).

If you uncomment the parskip option by removing the leading % then it gets
parsed together with the fromalign option (because fromalign lacks a
leading comma) and generates an 'undefined control sequence' error.

Another confusion is that 'parskip=false' is the default for this document
class. If you want a block style letter with no indents and a space between
paragraphs you need to change this option to 'parskip=true'.

What layout file did you try this with? The class is based upon book, so

Re: LyX template problems

2010-06-17 Thread Rob Oakes
Hi John,

This message means that the LaTeX document class needed by the layout is
not available. You can install these using the MikTeX package manager.
Simply search for the required package name and then click on install.
Once you have installed the needed LaTeX packages, then you can
reconfigure LyX and things should work.

For more information on how LyX and LaTeX work together, see the first
section of this article:

The section is entitled, "Understanding the Big Picture".

LyX template problems

2010-06-17 Thread John O Brien
Hi,

I just installed MiKTeX 2.8 and LyX 1.6. Whenever I try to open some
templates in LyX I get the following message:

"the layout file requested by this document, aa.layout, is not usable. This
is probably because a LaTeX class or style file required by it is not
available. See the Customization documentation for more information. LyX
will not be able to produce output." I also get "No information for
exporting the format PDF (pdflatex)." when I try to view PDF.

I have seen many suggested fixes online such as reconfiguring LyX but none
have worked. I have installed these on two laptops, one with XP and one with
Windows 7 x64. Same problem on both. I have attached the textclass.lst if
this is any help.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have to get my thesis
started asap.

When switching to LyX, the ability to make myself a CV was a primary
requirement. For me, there are at least two viable solutions to this:
- modernCV [1]
- CV based on the article class [2]

I have ("heavily") modified the latter, so that to render it more like

I don't konw if you mean this class:

cd /usr/share/texmf/tex/latex && wget
http://wiki.lyx.org/uploads/Examples/CV/cv.cls && chmod 644 cv.cls && texhash

I personally use lyx primarily for large documents, beamer
presentations, and CV, but consider the CV class and template
rudimentary.

I really wish it were better, because I think that more people would
use lyx if it were easier to create CVs, and LaTeX does a wonderful
job of typesetting...

lyx template wanted: journal or conference abstracts

2008-03-01 Thread Tim Michelsen

Hello,
a quick question:
Is there a template for Lyx preparing journal or conference abstracts?

Sometimes we write abstracts for conference presentation before the
articles are written or the presentation is approved to be held.
Therefore, just taking the article class and use the environments
author, title, date, abstract wouldn't help. Often, these abstracts need
to fit on one page (1x DIN A4).

So far, I found this:

Thanks in advance for your input,

I have no template because I cannot send you a paper but creating an IEEtran article is the same as

Not easily. g-brief is not our package, we cannot simply change it (the LPPL,
the license of the package, allows changes only if the file is distributed
under a different name, e.g. g-brief-lyx.cls).

However, in the documentation of g-brief, the developer states that even if he

could the "Telefon" variable in g-brief be changed into something unique?
But that probably breaks older files.lyx based on g-brief...

Yes. Indeed.

Here's the problem. My version uses
\def\Telefon{\mvchr{84}}
which overrides g-brief's definition silently, while \newcommand results in an
error, if the macro is already defined.[1]

I guess this has been done by default, in order to "inform" the user that a
file definition is overridden.

The easiest fix is probably to replace the \newcommand by \def. This keeps the
Symbol available in principle (for other apllications).

Jürgen

[1] The procedure goes as follows:
1. gbrief defines \Telefon
2. then gbrief loads marvosym, which defines \Telefon as well
3. right after that, g-brief defines \Telefon again
The error happens in step 2.

here is how the particular part of my marvosym.sty looks like (note that

I am using the absolute latest lyx 1.4.2 and miktex after a complete and
clean reinstall with the standard lyx 1.4.2 installer for windows. It
did not work after this install, so I updated the Miktex with the miktex
package updater on 14.august.2006. The g-brief-de still did not work.

By the way, my g-brief has the same version (4.0.1) at least according
to the releasenotes and dates of the files. why does this Marvosym
\Telefon bugfix in g-brief-de not work for me anymore? Maybe soemthing
new in MikTex or Latex prevents the overriding of the Marvosym \Telefon
definition by g-Brief?

Thanks for the fast reply,

The suggested solution worked perfect!
PLEASE NOTE HOWEVER that the name of the file is "marvosym.sty" (in
windows standard installation it rests in C:\texmf\tex\latex\marvosym\)
and NOT "mavrosym.sty" as mentioned in the other Mail (probably a typo)
...I only found out because the second time I searched for the file I
made the 'right' typo myself...

I have two more questions though:
1) How would I figure out that the error comes from marvosym.sty, as it
is not mentioned in the errormessage?
2) Will this problem be resolved with future versions of miktex or lyx?
Because after all it comes as a template with the lyx installation and
thus should work "out of the box".

thanks again

You can't just turn it off, because the opening command does not only the
opening, but invokes also all other stuff in the letter (headings, foldmarks
etc.).

One solution: instead of an actual opening phrase, write
\vspace*{-3\baselineskip} (in ERT) into the opening line (you might want to
adjust the length, which shrinks the distance by 3 lines in the example).

You can save this as a template for your letters.

I am not sure if I ask this question on the right list, so please point
me to another list if this is the wrong place.

I am using the koma-letter2 lyx template, which works very well, but I
am looking for a way to turn off the opening section, when writing
formal letters. Is this possible? I have looked at the lyx template code
but I cant find any options for it.

If its not possible I am looking for a lyx template for writing letters
close to the style koma-letter2 provides.

If it is only the references you can use the ijmp layout and use the abbrv for
your bibtex references.

However, if you want to make a layout file for ACS you can do that offcourse.

Download and install the the ws-acs.cls in your latex tree. Run texhash (if
you use tetex). Copy your (your path may
vary) /usr/local/share/lyx/layout/ijmpd.layout
to /usr/local/share/lyx/layout/ws-acs.layout and change the second line from
#  \DeclareLaTeXClass[ws-ijmpd]{article (ijmpd)}
to
#  \DeclareLaTeXClass[ws-acs]{article (ws-acs)}
save the file. Run reconfigure in LyX from Edit->reconfigure and restart Lyx
and chose article(ws-acs).

This should work if there are no other differences between the two. But I have
not tried, so no guarantees :).

It works for me (LyX 3.1.3 on Debian Linux). Lets see:

The scrlttr2.layout starts with

#LyX 1.3 created this file. For more info see http://www.lyx.org/
\lyxformat 221
\textclass scrlttr2
\begin_preamble

also scrlttr2 is the layout file. Looking there we find

#% Do not delete the line below; configure depends on this
#  \DeclareLaTeXClass[scrlttr2]{letter (koma-script v.2)}
# KOMA scrlettr2 textclass definition file.
# Juergen Spitzmueller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, 2003/2/17.

ok.

Maybe your scrlttr2.layout file reeds

#  \DeclareLaTeXClass[scrlettr2]{letter (koma-script v.2)}

in the second line? Change the [scrlettr2] to [scrlttr2] and try again.

(If you are on Unix/Linux, copy scrlttr2.layout to ~/.lyx/layouts and change
there).

strange koma-letter2.lyx template behavior

2003-12-14 Thread Holger Zebner
Hi,
I have scrlttr2.layout and the template koma-letter2.lyx installed.

When I Do "New from template" -> koma-letter2.lyx I get a
message saying:

"Unsing the default document class, because the class scrlettr2 is unknown."

I don't know why it says scrlettr2 instead of scrlttr2.

The shell textscript shows:

LyX-template for meeting resume

2001-12-06 Thread Janus Sandsgaard

I need a Lyx-template for writing a meeting resume. Does anybody have such
a template? Or maybe give me an idea where to get is?
