Re: Lion clean installation.
I just did this. you need to use a thumb drive. 1. insert thumb drive. 2. format it as mac osx extended journaled. 3. erase all content. 4. click restore and control click the flash drive.. 5. set it as destination. 6,. I had to do the erase again and hit restore tab 7. choose image button and mount the 10.7.3 dmg. 8. make sure your destination is now set to the thumb drive and click restore. 9. confirm. It will take about 30 minutes for this to be accomplished. good luck. Have you tried this using an original version of Lion downloaded from the Mac App Store, instead of a 10.7.3 version? Also, what kind of Mac are you trying this process on and is it running 10.7.3 itself? As for creating the flash drive, I have the same issues trying to use the Restore tab. The only thing I was able to do is make a Recovery Disk Assistant you can get from Apple to run. The problem is this does not include all of the install data and if you have a Mac that was released after Lion's release, I understand that it doesn't always work as far as trying to use the Recovery on it. For some reason, drag and drop just does not work in Disk Utility in the Restore tab. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd also be very interested in them. To that end, I faked the Mac app store into letting me download 10.7.3 and am attempting to burn it to either a DVD or a 32 GB SD card (smallest one I have available right now). When I drop the InstallESD.dmg file into disk utility, select burn, insert a DVD and select burn, it goes into the verification process for about 15 minutes before presenting an error indicating that the disk could not be created. I treated the first DVD as a coaster, and verified the InstallESD.dmg image before trying again and obtaining the same result (or lack there of). The DVD mounts and the content seems plausible, but I don't know if I want to kill my partition and learn in mid install that the verification error message was actually validly issued. I then tried copying the image to my SD card, but seem to be going about this wrong. I select the restore tab and drop the .dmg file into the source area. When I attempt to drop the unnamed SD volume onto the target field, it appears to land in the source area, and simultaneously activate the first aid tab. I tried the outer volume (item reads 32 GB reader), but could not determine how to remain in the restore tab and render the restore button active. I tried reformatting the sd card as OSX Journaled, but still no luck. Assuming that I eventually create a bootable SD card, how can I quickly boot to it? Is there a command key combo like command-r or command-c? I tried holding option during power up, but vo did not start, or respond to command-f5. I could probably boot the recovery partition, and exit to have vo active in the drive selection prompt, but thought I'd ask whether there's a quicker method? Best regards. Re: I can't save any documents
Hi Sarah, I had this issue last Summer and steps such as repairing permissions and clean reinstalls did not fix it. Strangely noone else could reproduce the problem and while preparing my post I can't seem to make it happen, though at some point I'm sure it will when I'm attempting to write to my hd while in a hurry. Since it does not appear to affect most people, I suspect this bug only bites those who have done a clean install, and perhaps is model specific also? I know this sounds strange, but try switching views. I don't recall exactly which view was problematic for me (column I think). So try switching to a different view such as list and you'll probably have no problems writing to your HD. Best regards. Re: cmd option l takes me to an empty download folder but it is not truly empty.
Hi Sarah, What view setting are you using for Finder? (e.g., column view, list view, etc.) If I'm using list view (Command-2) and I use the Command-Option-L shortcut, I'll be taken directly to the contents of the folder, and if I use Command-Up arrow I'll be placed in the Downloads folder. However, if I start in column view mode (Command-3), and I use the Command-Option-L shortcut, I'll be in my Downloads folder, but then using Command-Up arrow puts focus in my home directory accounts folder (e.g., VoiceOver says esther instead of Downloads in this mode. I think this may have something to do with the weird Command-Option-L implementation for viewing the Downloads window, where under Lion this shortcut now works in FInder, but didn't originally work from Safari, and where it now only works from Safari when the toolbar is not hidden. I also tried clearing my Safari Downloads window after using Command-Option-L from Safari. In Finder, Command-Option-L still shows everything in the Downloads folder, so it's not viewing the window. You should also be able to view your Downloads folder from the Dock, if you've previously set it up with the Context menu (VO-Shift-M) to display as Folder and view contents as List. I currently have this set to sort by Date Added -- which is the default setting if you don't change this with the context menu. To view the Downloads folder from the Dock, use either VO-D or Control-F3 to navigate to the Dock (or if you have TrackPad Commander enabled, do a two-finger double tap from the bottom half of the TrackPad). Then, I use Fn+Down Arrow or Up Arrow (Page Down or Page Up on a full-size keyboard) to navigate through the sections for Applications, Files and Folders, and Trash in the dock, and Right or Left arrow keys or the typed first letters of a name to navigate to what I want. On a laptop, with the default installation setup, Control-F3 then Fn-Down Arrow puts me at the first folder in the Files and Folders section of the Dock, which is Documents. Pressing left arrow puts focus on Downloads, and I can access the menu by pressing space bar, VO-D, or Return. Then, I can press down arrow to move through the menu (in this case, viewing the most recently added files first). Or I can press up arrow to read the View in Finder menu option, in case I really want to view the contents in a Finder window where I can change the viewing mode, find out about file sizes and kinds of file if I am using list mode (Command-2), or sort on column entries (e.g. list items by kind to find applications or media files; sort by size, etc.), or perform operations like copying or moving files. If you want to change the viewing mode of the files in the Downloads folder in your Dock, you can do this from the Options menu. Arrowing down from the top of the folder menu in the dock, you'll first view the items sorted according to the order you have selected (e.g., by Date Added for downloads), then Options and Show in Finder. So if you access the Downloads folder with space bar, VO-D, or by pressing Return, and use Up arrow to navigate, you'll get Show in Finder, Options, and then the file contents starting with oldest added files first. If you open the Downloads folder and use Down arrow, you'll view the most recent items first. If you want to change the sort order to view these alphabetically, press Command-Down arrow to move to the end of the menu, which is Show in Finder, then Up arrow to Options, and right arrow to the sub-menu. Arrow down through the sort options and press Return at the one you want. The first one will be Name. Then, ac cess the folder again (e.g., VO-D, then space bar) and arrow down to view the contents in alphabetical order. The sort ordering for viewing contents of folders in the dock is separate from the viewing options you set up to view these folders in Finder. HTH. It sounds as though this is a weird focus issue for the Command-Option-L shortcut in Finder. This shortcut was really originally defined for Safari. Hi Sarah and Geoff, There was definitely something odd about using column view to display the Command-Option-L shortcut for Documents in Sarah's earlier post. Re: Editing with Amadeus Pro
Hi Paul and others, Paul, My experience is that just about any digital recorder will do the job well enough for a podcast. For me it is about the content and not how flashy it is. I did the Amadeus Pro podcast with a Olympus DM 50. I clipped the microphone to my lap top screen and had my lap top output playing through speakers behind me. The results were audible and that was good enough. I sometimes fine the high tech podcasts with mixers and such a bit over powering. Also, With some podcast using Autio hijack Pro for example the quality of the computer is so loud that it both overwhelms the human speaker and sounds so much like my actual computer that I have been confused as to whether I did something on my computer or the podcast did! So your Victor reader should be fine. the only catch is the Victor records in a format you will not be able to import into Amadeus Pro to edit or convert to mp3. that is unless you have the optional soft pack upgrade. I have heard many clear podcasts recorded with the Victor Reader Stream. So again the voice output doesn't need to be spectacular to work well. My recent podcasts on using the Reminders App and List Recorder were just don with the internal microphone with Amadeus Pro. I didn't do much of anything to clean them up other then delete extra sound. My iPhone was being used normally just near the computer. I hope to make future ones better as you and others increase my knowledge of Amadeus Pro. But I promise to not get carried away with music and echoes and all that stuff. This is a great thread, I've been pushing myself to learn more thanks to you folks. eRic Caron On Feb 19, 2012, at 8:09 AM, Paul Hopewell wrote: Hi Eric, OK I will have a go at a podcast. Eric Caron On Feb 18, 2012, at 4:24 PM, Paul Hopewell wrote: Hi Eric, Many thanks for sending me the short podcasts about editing with Amadeus Pro. I can now reliably correct my piano playing! For example to remove a prolonged silence I play the track until I hear the start of the silence and place a marker there. I then continue until I hear the first note after the silence and place a second marker there. I then extend the selection to the prior marker. I then press the space bar to hear the selection and adjust it by pressing the a, s, d, or f keys to adjust the left hand end or right hand end of the selection. I press the desired key a few times and then press the space bar to hear the result and then press the desired key again until the result is correct. If I overshoot I can easily reverse that. I then press the e key to hear the effect of removing the selection (I set the preview time in Amadeus preferences to its maximum of 2 seconds). when all is correct I press the delete key to delete the selection and press the command+delete k e y t o remove the markers associated wit the selection. I then save the result in case I mess it up later on. This all sounds very tedious but is surprisingly quick and easy to do. A good trick is to set the horizontal zoom slider so that each press of the a through f keys does a sensible amount of adjustment. Rather than do a podcast on this I would prefer to write it up as a shortish document with fully detailed instructions. If I did that where could I put the document so that it would be useful to others? Is blind cool tech exclusively podcasts or are text documents also acceptable? I prefer documents as it is much easier to locate salient points after the initial read through, whereas with a podcast I have to listen to quite a bit of material I am familiar with tho locate the point of interest. WIth a text document this is easily accomplished by the find command. Anyway when I have a bit more experience of this editing I will write it up or podcast it and save it somewhere. Many thanks. Hi Courtney, I was hoping someone else would answer your question as I'm not sure I can actually find your solution. No one else has tried so here goes. Depending on the input source I've seen different behavior with the gain. With my USB turntable I can not adjust the gain. They are dimmed. With my Griffin iMic or the internal microphone the gain sliders are no longer dimmed. So for my turntable if I want to increase the gain I use the editing functions after the recording is complete. You can select the sound then go to affects and then to amplify. You can then raise and lower the gain. Now this may not be exactly the same as adjusting the gain in advance. But, it may solve your problem. I hope this helps. Amadeus pro and Horizontal and Verticle Zoom
Amadeus Pro users and Listers, I would like to better understand just what is happening when I adjust the horizontal and vertical Zoom. I change the slider and as far as I can tell nothing different is happening. I wanted a way to speed up movement as I move with the arrow keys through a recording. Maybe it is too subtle for me but I don't notice a difference whether I have the Zoom set to 100 or 10 percent. Re: pairing laptop to iPhone
Hi Glenn, What are you trying to do by pairing your laptop and iPhone? I've only done this when using a program like iKeyboard or Type2Phone that lets me use my laptop keyboard like a Bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone. When I use Bluetooth to pair the iPhone and laptop I don't actually have to type in any PIN numbers. I turn Bluetooth on in the Settings General Bluetooth screen of my iPhone. What happens the first time I go to the System Preferences Bluetooth menu on my laptop to check the boxes so that Bluetooth is turned on and discoverable, after my iPhone shows up as a discovered device and I run the Bluetooth Setup Assistant, is that I'm prompted with a 6 digit code from my laptop's Bluetooth Setup Assistant window, and on my iPhone, under the Settings General Bluetooth screen, I get a message Esther's MacBook Pro would like to pair with your iPhone. Confirm that the PIN code xx is shown on Esther's MacBook Pro and there are buttons for Cancel and Pair. All I have to do is double tap the Pair button on the screen of my iPhone to apply the PIN code entry on the iPhone that also matches the one that shows up on my laptop. When I pair a Bluetooth keyboard to the iPhone, there's usually a prompt on the iPhone screen to have me type in a four digit PIN on the keyboard and press Return to pair the keyboard. The pairing with my laptop is different, since there are six digits to the PIN, but I don't actually have to type anything in -- just double tap the Pair button on the message that gives the six digit PIN code. In some instances you may get a message that pairing has failed or timed out even though there is now an entry for Glenn's MacBook Pro in the list of devices on the Settings General Bluetooth screen for your iPhone. You may try double tapping that entry and see whether your iPhone connects to your laptop. I've read that some desktop Macs actually do require you to type in the six digit PIN to pair to your iPhone in Bluetooth, but for laptops you should just be able to double tap the Pair button that appears in the dialog window. HTH. Cheers, Esther On Feb 19, 2012, at 2:01 PM, Glenn wrote: Hi, I first tried , and when that did not work, I tried my own set, and that did not work either. having the iCloud blues.
Hello to all. Starting friday when i did a clean install i tried to sign in to icloud. It gave me an error which can be found here. Http://Tinypaste.Com/ece6d1dc i then checked that all of my stuff was correct by signing in to apple store and other places. I could. I even checked at the apple id site where i can manage my stuff and all was good. I then checked at the icloud website to see if i could sign in and all was fine. All this with an apple senior adviser. I then proceeded to reboot and try again and got that same message linked above. After that i tried to create a new apple id just for icloud, this after backing up my calendar contacts and more.. I then got this set of error messages from the console. Http://Tinypaste.Com/dd5ef9ea i checked to see that i was signed out but every time i go to mail contacts and calendars in system prefs i get the please enter your password. Then it never recognized it. I then sign out and delete the icloud thing from mail contacts and calendars. It appears every single time i reboot the system, or command tab back to it from some ware else. I'm at a loss as to what to do here. Any suggestions anyone might have? i already did a clean install so it can't be that. It even happened on a broken install so i dunno what['s up there and apple techs i've talked to are stumped as well.
