Evernote

2012-04-27 Thread Sean Murphy
Hi all.

Evernote is a great little app which is for free. The program allows you to
create up to 250 notebooks with each notebook having 10 notes. A note can
be 25mb comprised of Web pages, links, text, files, audio recordings, etc. The
purpose of the program is to permit you to organise all those little notes you
have to track. Such as tips and tricks for the Mac, recipes, articles, study
material, journals, etc.

The program also works on the IPhone and directly on the Web. It also works on
other platforms. The tool is accessible from what I have done with it thus far.
It is a great little tool to organise your information.

Onenote is a similar product made by Microsoft.

It's not entirely clear what your problem with "manually cobbling html
together" is that you are trying to solve, or that a different editor
is going to help.

If your problem is repetitive labor, maybe what you need is a
templating system like Jinja2 to allow you to reuse code.

If your problem is time to market, maybe what you need is a full-blown
web application framework like Django, which would typically include a
templating system, prebuilt widgets, and utilities for processing form
submissions and interacting with databases?

If your problem is not knowing the right HTML to use, maybe you need a
good resource on HTML like:

   http://www.w3.org/wiki/Web_Standards_Curriculum

"We have no way to tell the customer what he/she should enter. They
don't know what we want so nobody's happy."

Is your problem that you're not sure how to encode names and
descriptions for form fields in HTML?

Use "label" elements to name controls. Associate labels with controls
with "for" and "id" attributes.

Use "p" elements to provide additional text help for controls.
Associate paragraphs with controls using the "id" and
"aria-describedby" attributes.

Use "fieldset" to group controls. Use "legend" to name field sets.

Does this example help?

  Title for the form
  General introduction to the form.

Short name for a group of form controls
  Short name for an
individual control:

  Additional help for
the control goes here.

Alternatively, if you're not sure how to design forms to be easy to
use, I recommend _Web Form Design: Filling in the Blanks_ by Luke
Wroblewski:

Re: speed test

2012-04-27 Thread Sean Murphy
Hi all.

Speed tests are really a guideline and do not truly inform you the true speed
of your link.

If you are using DSL technology. Then the speed is from your modem to the DSLan
and possibly to the router which establishes the PPOE or PPPOA connection.
Depending on how the DSL is configured.

If you are using Cable technology. Then this is a shared media. So there is no
true way to identify the speed. Most ISP's will perform a test from the CE
(customer equipment) to their server to determine if there is any speed issue.
More people who use the cable heavily will effect your performance as a whole.

If you are using ethernet style technology. Then look at the speed from your CE
to the ISP's server.

Also different protocols have different limitations on maximum speed
throughput.

I have even not mention bottle necks on the actual Internet itself. You could
go to a specific site. Where their speed is slower then yours or one of the
paths you have taken on the Internet effects your overall performance. ISP's
these days also will shape (QoS) different traffic to ensure specific traffic
has higher throughput then others. An example is torrents. Some ISP's will
restrict the throughput of torrents due to the usage of the protocol by the
average person. While Web, video, VOIP and other protocols will get a higher
amount of the band width available on the ISP networks.

Thought I would give you all a little inside to how things are. Sorry for
pointing out the obvious.

Hello:

For any US hams, this app is pretty cool. Very VoiceOver friendly and using
GPS, you can locate repeaters near you, including frequency as well as CTCSS
ETC.

For more info visit the link I'll provide. Price is $4.99 and hope you enjoy.

John

As a suggestion in the app store look for sublime sun or just look for repeater.

Re: Any Web Authoring Tools that work with VO?

2012-04-27 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
Ah yes, but emacsSpeak is based 100% on Emacs and Emacs is a editor that is
written almost exclusely in lisp (Some say that stands for Lots of Irratating
spurfulous Parenthesis) In any case, if you load Xcode and then load a package
installer on the macintosh you will then be able to install emacsspeek and
supposedly it uses the Apple VOice library. I expect that if you went to
terminal you would find a version of Emacs available, it was there in Tiger,
but these days I usually use VI or textedit for my editing. If you need more
specifics about emacsspeek I have kept in my archives somewhere the information.

Bluetooth / wireless by any chance? Sometimes the wireless components will go

Re: itunes busy

2012-04-27 Thread Sean Murphy
It will be either a subprocess of iTunes or vO that is causing the issue. I
have found if you turn off VO for a couple of seconds and then back on. The
issue doesn't occur.

The CPU profiling I have done on VO appears that it ranges from 20% up to 50%
or even higher for short period of times.

Sean Has anyone try to identify which process is causing the Busy?

it go busy for me. As I stated that's fine as the behavior is to be expected.

I only have this problem when I navigate to the "Itunes Store" part of the
source list, I get "iTunes Busy" for perhaps 5 seconds - I assume that in the
"Busy" period" the Mac is negotiating a data connection with the store,
downloading information etc and then I get "iTunes Ready" after the 5 seconds
or so of "Busy" has past, not a huge problem here.

Hello Patricia

Are you using VoiceOver? If so, although it doesn't happen here, maybe you
might try turning the typing echo to characters. I have full vision and,
regardless of the status of VoiceOver, when I type into an edit field I see it
instantly.

I hope this is of some help. Please do not distribute this information to third
parties not associated with this E-Mail list. Please also be aware that we
reserve the right to withdraw this service at any tine if we deem it necessary
and appropriate. Note: if you have problems, please contact me privately via
the support address , not on the list. If you do that
and clearly define your problem I will do my utmost to help you out. Give us a
couple of hours from the time of writing to ensure that we have the latest file
in place. But I'm pretty sure we have. The VMWare site is tricky with
accessibility tools; hence my reason for downloading it and getting Gordon to
agree to have us make it available.

Re: keyboard

2012-04-27 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello Patricia

All you need to do is move left and right with the cursor keys (assuming you're
talking about a Mac and not an iOS device). You can edit exactly the same as
you can on any other operating system using desktop or notebook computers.

Just a quick note: It may help others to help you if you give us more detail as
to what exactly you're trying to accomplish in what application on what
platform. However, please note that non-Apple platforms such as Microsoft
Windows are off topic for this group. Should you wish to discuss Windows, feel
free to join either our general technology chat group,
, or our Windows-specific group,
and we'll be happy to help which also
goes for our fellow members I'm sure.

Of course, if you're discussing Apple platforms then you're already in the
right place.

Hello Patricia

Fusion is a virtualisation application which lows you to create and run virtual
machines on a host platform. In a typical scenario, it allows you to use
Windows on a Mac at the same time as Mac OSX with Windows being the "Guest"
operating system and Mac OSX being the "Host". It also, of course, works with
other operating systems such as many flavours of Linux.

Re: running windows programs on mac

2012-04-27 Thread Sean Murphy
Hi,

The amount of memory all depends on what version of Windows you are going to
use. If you use a 64bit then you require 8 gb. Since 64bit versions of Windows
works best in 4 gb. If you go with a 32bit version then you can get away with
4gb on the Mac. Make sure you configure VMWare to not to use more then 50% of
available memory.

Ideally, more memory is better then less regardless of OS. I use 8 gb of
memory. Memory isn't expensive these day. Also Apple has certified memory or
Apple memory. Apple memory is far more expensive then other vendors. It is wise
to use ECC memory which basically means you have error checking on the memory.
You don't have to do this. But Apple memory uses ECC.

The aspect of having windows or not. Is the question. It depends on your
requirements regardless of what you need to learn on the Mac. You cannot state
either way is the best method.

I use both environments and also have a Linux VM image so I have one computer
rather then 2 or 3. That is the advantage of virtualisation.
