iPad

2013-10-31 Thread Chris H

Good evening all again.
Well finally had chance to look at an iPad today at the group!
A member of staff has one, an iPad 4 3G model.
All I can say is wow! I like the bigger screen very much! I was able to
tap around with two hands, something I can't do with an iPhone.
She is not a VoiceOver user so couldn't really get to play with it. But
least I now have an idea and can see myself using one in the future.

Just got to look at an iPad mini now for comparison.
Kind regards
Chris.

iPad

2013-12-05 Thread Chris H

Hello everyone
thanks to my support i managed to not only feel her iPad but also hear
it too. She has the newer iPad mini. I like the screen size, about 8
inches, and the sound quality is great.

So all I'm going to say if I ever get one is the iPad mini is the way to go.
Kind regards
Chris.

New iPad

2013-12-28 Thread Chris H

Hi all
well i've bit the bullet and placed my order for my very first tablet,
iPad mini with Retina Display, this is a treat for myself since did not
get one for the holidays, also as they say new year new start, i chose
silver for colour and a wopping 128 gb for capacity, this is so i can
store my ever expanding music collection and other data on there, should
be fantastic! Please be gentle as new to tablet computing, thanks.

New iPad

2014-01-02 Thread Chris H

Good evening all
well i finally got my iPad mini wifi 128 gb in silver over an hour ago.
The setup was painless, but lol! I had to turn everything on in iCloud
settings just to get my contacts for example!
Now I'm currently downloading the free apps that Apple now offers when
you purchase a new iDevice, such as Pages. This is why I'm not sending
this from my iPad at this time.
Well my impressions overall? Very good! Feels nice and shiny, sound
quality is just amazing, and the on-screen keyboard is very nice
actually! Reminds me of a laptop keyboard because of the placement of
the comma and period keys to the right of m for example. Just need some
more practice though but I am getting there. But lol! earlier on, could
I find the at key as part of signing into my Apple Id? Could I heck!
Turned out it was to the right of the m key!
Anyway will keep you updated but those are my feelings so far. Can't
wait to test the sound out with music I synced to my iPad earlier on.
Speaking of which going to forget iTunes Match altogether, because it
won't let me sync my music for offline listening otherwise.

You take care and hope we can get something going on this!

Latest iPad

2013-07-18 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

My iPad 64GB was delivered earlier on today, so what are we up to now iPad IV
or is it iPad V, I've lost track somewhere .

Anyway I cannot say that I'm suitably impressed with this tablet except for one
thing.

Perhaps I'm dreaming here or perhaps I have to get used to it but I don't think
the internal iPad speaker of this generation is quite as good as that found on
the first generation of iPad I just rid myself of and believe me! I wouldn't
have done that had I been able to update to the latest IOS version but I
couldn't which was very unfortunate.

However its just "One Of Those Things" and nothing can be done about it, the
only thing that can be done is to enjoy my new iPad and I'll do that to the
best of my ability .

iPad mini

2013-11-15 Thread Chris H

Hello everyone
just a quick message to say there might be an iPad mini owner in the
family at Christmas as I'm hoping my half brothers get one for Christmas
from our parents. Father rung me and asked what one can do with a wifi
tablet and tole them. I then gave a sort of a hint to consider the iPad
or iPad mini for two reasons.
1. They have an iPod Touch already so makes sense to get a tablet
running on the same platform.
2. Since I am a devoted Apple user and helper I will be able to offer
help for an iPad or iPad mini instead of what they liked the look of; a
Samsung tablet. Sorry to sneak that in there grin.
Keep you posted as if they do get the mini I am hoping to feel and have
a brief play with it. Note they are not VoiceOver users but I am.

Any comments welcome.

Re: iPad

2013-12-05 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
Hi,
I have both an i phone and an i pad 2.

I love the portability of the i phone, obviously.

I mainly use the i pad at home or in places like Starbuck’s. for longer
sessions of reading and writing, it’s more comfortable for me, ergonomically.
I am totally blind, so screen size doesn’t mean anything visually, but the
larger real estate does make a difference for typing and gestures.

It really does come down to personal preference and also, of course, finances.
Also, with the i pad, of course, you can only make calls from a wifi spot, with
things like Skype.

hth,
Cait

Re: iPad

2013-12-05 Thread Dane Trethowan
I use my iPad as there are situations where an iPhone is inpractical to
use with some Apps because of its small screen.

Mostly I use the iPad as an Internet radio or music player as the
speaker in my iPad III sounded damn good, I also prefer this device for
when I'm reading iBooks.

I just sold my iPad III and will be upgrading to an iPad Air shortly
where the sound is supposed to be better again, the iPad Air has stereo
speakers, is 30% lighter than the iPad III so it will be even more
comfortable to use etc.

Hi Phil,
Aside from the different layout that you get on the iPad with some apps, which
some folks like and others don't, there are advantages to having more than one
device. It's sort of depends on how much you use your phone every day. I know
that I could not do everything on my phone that I do on my phone plus my iPad,
simply because the battery would run out. And I do like the sound of the larger
speaker or bigger cabinet or whatever it is on the iPad. So I do most of my
reading an radio listening on the pad.

Its processor is not as good, and camera is significantly lesser, and it is
bulky in comparison. And I don't know if they have GPS in them.
The speakers are much better, but heck, with decent bluetooth speakers that
are affordable, I see its speaker as a non-issue.

Keep in mind that the cameras on the iPads and the iPods don't come close to
the resolution of the cameras on iPhones.
This means you will have trouble scanning for OCR and scanning barcodes.
My wife has an iPad, and it cannot read barcodes, but she has no problem
with her iPhone.

Re: iPad

2013-12-05 Thread Mary Otten
Glenn, the new iPad has the exact same processor as the newest iPhone. Same for
the new mini. So how can you say it's processor is any worse? Plus it gets
excellent battery life, better than the iPhone. Yes it is larger. But
especially for the mini, it's not that big a deal. If you use your device a lot
a single iPhone won't cut it. That is, unless you want to carry around some
kind of external battery. Talk about the hassle. I love the iPhone. But since I
use my iOS devices for so much, I'm very grateful to have the iPad mini. If I
didn't want a phone, I would probably just have a mini if I can only have one
device.

Not Phil but ok, I currently use my phone every day, therefore only
getting two to three days battery life at a push. With the pad and this
is just an example I could receive a notification on the phone but
actually deal with it on the pad, therefore saving battery life on the
phone.

Not Phil but ok, I currently use my phone every day, therefore only
getting two to three days battery life at a push. With the pad and this
is just an example I could receive a notification on the phone but
actually deal with it on the pad, therefore saving battery life on the
phone.

Re: iPad

2013-12-06 Thread Glenn
I used it on an iPod, which has the same camera specs as an iPad, and it was
slow when it did recognize the bills.
My wife is sighted and even pointing her camera directly at a barcode does
not get recognized, but it works well with her iPhone.
I haven't tried an iPad with TapTapSee, I only know that the resolution is
poor on the iPads.

Not particularly bothered about that as I hardly use the camera.
However, does Looktel Money Reader and Tap Tap See work on the iPad and
if so how well?

2013-12-07 Thread Matthew Carello
Me and my wife recently upgraded to the iPhone 5s. We each got a Mophie air
juice pack\. These are awesome. They do not make the phone to big and I
actually like the style. With my normal use I started it on the charging part
at 5:30 yesterday morning. After the charger part died it went to phone battery
and is still going as I write this email. I used some gps, read, and did some
social stuff on it. So far this battery pack looks really worth it.

iPad help

2013-01-28 Thread Glenn
Hi All,
I have been working with a client on using his iPad, a new model, based on
my use of my iPhone 5 with VoiceOver.
Something strange that I have found while in "settings", is when I open an
area like "general", and I swipe right-to-left, to move up the screen, I
cannot find any "back" buttons. So for example, in general, I should be
able to swipe back until I hear:
"settings back button"
And that will close out that section and place me in the main settings
window.
Also, another strange thing I have found is that when I open something like
general, I have to swipe ahead for the actual general options, it seems to
have elements of the main window between "general" and any of the items that
are within that area.
So far, the iPad does not seem as easy to use as my iPhone or the iPod.

Differences between the iPad and the iPad 2?

It has two camera as the ipad1 don't have any, it has a faster processer and
more ram and it has that sentive touch screen that theipad1 don't have I
forget what the techno name they call it. This is where GB app will work on
the Ipad2 but not on the Ipad1 . These is the main difference as well as the
Ipad2 is thinner and lighter. HTH

Re: iPad Third Generation] & iPad Original Generation; [Comparatively Speaking]

2012-06-20 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello Mary, Brian, William and all others who have contributed to this
discussion.

Mary; at your tolerance, I'm going to correct all of the spelling errors in
your below post, from which I want to take sections and respond to comments.
Please don't take this as a snub or anything; it just makes it easier for
VoiceOver users who have spell checking enabled.

On 19 Jun 2012, at 23:45, Mary Otten wrote:

• I too was rather surprised about the dropping of support for the original
iPad i iOS6, given that they will continue support for the aged 3GS.

I agree with this comment, and I am trying to get a little more insight on this
issue because I don't quite see the logic. However, what I will say is that the
performance of the iPad 3 in comparison to the iPad 1, (as I'll call the
original iPad here), is mind-blowing. I'm comparing like with like; our iPad 1
is a 64GB model with 3G and WiFi compatibility. The new iPad does have one very
big advantage. It's Wi-fi is Wireless-N rather than the slower Wireless-G
which the original iPad is. The new model operates in the 5.2 GHZ band although
it does appear to have fallback should the router not support Wireless-N.

I am fortunate in this comparison because I can actually see both iPads working
side-by-side and performing the same tasks. I couldn't believe it when I saw
the difference! The iPad 1 is noticeably slower when, for instance, opening a
Pages document. On the new iPad it's there in the blink of an eye. On the iPad
1, it takes 2 to 3 seconds to open the same document.

Alright; you may say what is 2 to 3 seconds. That is fair comment. But when you
are looking to have spontaneously accessed information, there is no doubt about
it, the iPad 3 wins hands-down.

anything. So I suppose the surprise should be that they're still supporting the
3GS, not that they're dropping support for the iPad. I own an original iPad,
and I certainly would think twice about sinking big bucks in to another one if
this 2-year product cycle is going to be Apple's norm for iPads. Admittedly, I
bought my IPad after the 2 was already out and prices on the original had
dropped a lot. But even at that, I'd have expected to get another year out of
my original iPad before being tossed off the upgrade bus completely.

I absolutely agree with your comment. It really is a very strange decision on
Apple's part, and I do think that they have short-changed their customers here.
After all, one can hardly expect to have to replace their devices quite as
frequently as that. It is true that not long after the iPhone 4 was released
came the iPhone 4S. Many people who had bought the iPhone 4 were extremely
miffed because they weren't aware of the enhancements in the iPhone 4S when
they spent their money. These things are not cheap, nor can one justify simply
ditching their old models at the drop of a hat. I can tell you that, although I
bought an iPad 3 for Gordon, we most definitely will not be ditching the iPad 1
because it still has a lot of life left in it yet.

True: Gordon opted to upgrade his iPhone 3GS because an attractive offer came
along which meant that he didn't need to pay the full price, or to change his
phone number. His old 3GS went as trade-in so it didn't mean a redundant iPhone
sitting in the cupboard.

Actually, I believe that Apple is offering customers a 10% upgrade trade-in for
their old iPad. Our only problem with that was that we'd have had to spend time
and money getting the old one back to Apple before claiming our new iPad. We're
off to Wimbledon soon; so I opted to buy it outright. Also there is no Apple
retail store close to us, so that wasn't an option either.

But in conclusion, I can only say that the iPad 3 is blisteringly fast in
comparison to the original models. I have not yet discovered how you start the
dictation features, so haven't tried them.

Just one more little point, not that it really matters, but it is just for
reference. When people write the word "iPad", it should really be done with a
small letter i as the first letter, and a capital P, small a and small d. The
same is true for the word "iPhone" the I=i should be lower case and the P
upper. Again not that it really matters; it's just a small point. :)

 Hi Chris
If you've used an iPhone, which I know you have, you'll have no
trouble adapting to the iPan Mini. The procedures for using it
with VO are very much the same. I personally really like the new
Mini, although I cannot currently justify the upgrade, as my 3rd
generation iPad still works very well.

Bookmarks on iPad

2014-03-10 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am setting up an iPad for a friend. I am familiar with the iPhone but not the
iPad.

the iPad has a bookmark in Safari which gives access to the iPad User Guide. I
have created a Books folder on the iPad home screen containing ibooks. I would
like to move the Safari bookmark for the iPad User Guide into my Books folder
so that my friend sees it just like another book. Is that possible?

I can foresee other cases where it would be useful to move selected Safari
bookmarks into folders on the home screen. Is that possible?

Many thanks.

Hi Will,
For those that have a mini and have also used an iPad with a full sized screen,
do you find the screen on the mini easier to navigate? I currently have an
iPad 2. It seems that a mini could be an intriguing consideration for that
reason.

Hi Will,
For those that have a mini and have also used an iPad with a full sized
screen, do you find the screen on the mini easier to navigate? I currently
have an iPad 2. It seems that a mini could be an intriguing consideration
for that reason.

According to CNet I think it's $329. for me though it would be too small. I
need the screen space for stuff like gb and school stuff. if i were to get an
iPad that is. lol!

iPad Help Required

2012-11-30 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi all

OK, this one might be a bit of a challenge. I've been enlisted to assist a
teacher who has a pupil aged four, with dexterity issues, who she wants to try
and educate in the use of the iPad. Does anybody happen to know whether this
kind of accessibility is supported at all? This child's fingers, for instance,
are apparently not very easily controlled and I'm not optimistic about his use
of the touch screen. However, I wondered whether perhaps he might be able to
make more headway with dictation, rather than actually using his hands, which
are not exactly functional as most people would understand it. Any thoughts
very welcome.

Gordon

iPad and powerpoint

2013-01-11 Thread Timothy J. Meloy
Hello everyone,
I have a friend whose interested in purchasing an iPad mini. But she reads a
lot of powerpoint presentations for school, and one of her chief purposes for
getting an iPad would be to read powerpoint presentations. Is there a way to
accessibily read powerpoint presentations on the iPad? I know Key Note is
Apple's powerpoint equivalent. Does that work well, or might there be better
apps for presentations for use with voice over? Any feedback would be
appreciated.
Thanks,
T.J.

Is this the large iPad or the Mini. Cause the speakers on the mini are a
little bit softer. Also make sure that the voice over volume is set to 100
per cent.

Hi!

My iPad 64GB was delivered earlier on today, so what are we up to now iPad
IV or is it iPad V, I've lost track somewhere .

Anyway I cannot say that I'm suitably impressed with this tablet except for
one thing.

Perhaps I'm dreaming here or perhaps I have to get used to it but I don't
think the internal iPad speaker of this generation is quite as good as that
found on the first generation of iPad I just rid myself of and believe me! I
wouldn't have done that had I been able to update to the latest IOS version
but I couldn't which was very unfortunate.

However its just "One Of Those Things" and nothing can be done about it, the
only thing that can be done is to enjoy my new iPad and I'll do that to the
best of my ability .

The larger iPad, didn't want the iPad Mini as the Specs and Processor aren't as
good, I know its the larger iPad as it has the speaker grill at the bottom of

Re: iPad mini

2013-11-15 Thread Chris H
Speaking of media content I currently use headphones which I plug into
my laptop for listening to music as I do not like the sound of music, no
pung intended, using the internal speakers. On the mac it's really good.
Is it the same on the iPad?

Hello everyone
just a quick message to say there might be an iPad mini owner in the family at
Christmas as I'm hoping my half brothers get one for Christmas from our
parents. Father rung me and asked what one can do with a wifi tablet and tole
them. I then gave a sort of a hint to consider the iPad or iPad mini for two
reasons.
1. They have an iPod Touch already so makes sense to get a tablet running on
the same platform.
2. Since I am a devoted Apple user and helper I will be able to offer help for
an iPad or iPad mini instead of what they liked the look of; a Samsung tablet.
Sorry to sneak that in there grin.
Keep you posted as if they do get the mini I am hoping to feel and have a brief
play with it. Note they are not VoiceOver users but I am.
Any comments welcome.

Press and hold the sleep/home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds.
Then release the sleep button but keep the home button pressed. Plug the iPad
into the machine with the home button pressed. After a few seconds release the
home button.

iTunes should tell you that it has found an iPad in recovery mode and offer you
the chance to restore it.

iPad is updating!!!

2011-10-14 Thread Jane
So, I checked the support Communities and did a search for Error (a). The
general consensus was to keep trying and it would eventually restore. Well I'd
already tried it once today, but I decided, what the heck? I plugged it in,
told it to restore, and it is right now restoring my iPad apps. Thank God!

How long will this restore thing take, anyhow, and what *is* this new voice?

RE: iPad help

2013-01-29 Thread Matthew C
Hello Glenn. This is normal behavior. I believe I remember hearing it is
called containers. There is no back button. It just opens the folder you
want under the main settings list. There should be something in the roter
that says containers that can help in switching. I usually just flick into
it like you have been.

Subject: iPad help

Hi All,
I have been working with a client on using his iPad, a new model, based on
my use of my iPhone 5 with VoiceOver.

Glenn

Also it should be remembered that developers might be able to add functionality
to existing software because of improved hardware for example the higher
quality camera might improve o.c.r apps and other scanning software for
voiceover to work with.

Far to early to rush to judgement imho.

People seem to foget that the iPad and other devices are not marketed for the
blind. The vast majority of the market share are sighted folks. Thus, the
bells and whistles are going to be orientated for that population.

However, as pointed out, that does not at all mean that the improvements
to the processor and camera won't benefit the blind. It is a vast improvement
overall, and as with any new iDevice, the extent of the improvements are never
apparent from the presentation and don't seem to get fully realized until the
device is being sold and third party developers really start taking advantage
of its new specs.

So, if you don't need a new iPad or you are happy with what you have, that
is fine. The new iPad may not be for you. However, don't make snap reactions
simply from a presentation that was not geared towards accessibility and go
assuming anything.

And you honestly consider that to be a reasonable request? I'll go you one

My concern is that if a company takes the steps that Apple has and people

That is not a big demand!
Get real, it just an on-screen keyboard.
There are companies that have done it already, but Apple does not allow
access to that level of the source code.
There are a lot of Blind folks who can use a Braille keyboard, and have
never typed on a computer keyboard.
Either you did not think out your response, or you did not get what I meant

Re: new ipad

2012-03-08 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi,

Just to correct you here. Yes, Apple does allow it, and yes they do exist, but
experimentally so. However, the companies haven't made it into a regular
keyboard such as the ones you can set under Keyboard preferences in Settings,
which is also possible to do without any particular access to any source code.
You don't need any low-level access in iOS to do this, so if the company can
make it a workable solution, it's perfectly able to be worthwhile. I admit it'd
be interesting to try, but it wouldn't make me faster.

Even so, though, the fact it is a small demand makes Apple less likely to do
it. Most companies probably wouldn't go for small-demand features, at least,
not often I'd think.

Nicolai

Re: new ipad

2012-03-09 Thread Sean Murphy
One thing about the new IPAD. The 4g selling point is an USA mobile (cellular)
standard. I do not know if it is something available in Europe. I believe it
use's a 1800 frequency. So countries like Australia cannot use the 4g component.

I wish the hell the Telco industry would standardise mobile technology so
everyone uses the same frequency. But licences and governments like to screw
people around.

If only you could see the look on my face! Although I do know some folks,
both sighted and blind who could use two-handed instructions on said toilet
paper.

I absolutely do not want my IOS devices to look like a piece of adaptive
equipment. My very nice never used beautiful Perkins braille writer has dust
all over the cover and my Braille keyboard Voice Note has a dead battery and
is in a drawer somewhere.

basics of ipad

2012-05-12 Thread william lomas
hi to all,

I got the chance today to look at my family members ipad 2. i must say i am
lost :)
i guess it is because i am so used to the iphone screen and how limited ones
hand movements can be so I have a few questions please
1. when ins settings and i click a category it seems that everything is shown.
for example on iphone when i clicked general accessibility i would then only
see the accessibility settings, whereas on an ipad it seems as though all of
settings are still displayed is this right?
2. what are all the different sounds?
i know my gestures but am confused. how do we know where things are on the
screen now as it is so big?
3. what are "containers"?
i hope someone can help me before i purchase an ipad but it seems as though
given my previous misconceptions that an ipad let's you"feel" the layout of the
screen as my dad would see it as it were

hi all,

do people find the ipad 2 performance of a good quality with voiceover?
i can get a refurbished apple certified ipad 2 here in the UK 32 gig wifi only
for 359 gbp, saving 120 gbp on an ipad 3 equivalent, apart from the screen and
dictation what really would i need it for?
to pay 120 pounds extra for the screen that i can't see anyway and i hear more
ram, do people feel the ipad 3 is worth it? or does the 2nd generation suit us
as blind users fine?
interested in opinions?

Also I assume apple certified would be as new doul it? after having passed
stringent tests?

iPad Third Generation

2012-06-18 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello everybody

Is there anybody on list who previously owned an iPad 1 and has now upgraded to
an iPad 2 or iPad 3? I'm asking because we're planning to upgrade and I want to
know that it's worth while. I'm given to understand that 4G mobile connectivity
is only supported in the US and Canada. if that's true, then is there any other
noticeable advantage?

We're thinking of getting the reciprocal model to that which we have now; a 4G
+ WiFi model, 64GB storage. So if anybody has experience I'd appreciate
comment. I can only think of 1 good reason at the moment to upgrade, and I
cannot discuss that. But if there are others I'd like to know what they may be.

Thank you.

Lynne

Re: iPad & GPS

2012-06-20 Thread Esther
Hi Lynne,

If you bought a 4G+Wi-Fi iPad third generation, then it has built-in GPS and
compass, etc. This is true whether or not you ever activate a data plan. If you
bought a Wi-Fi only iPad, then you don't have GPS. And I've discovered that
the Sendero LookAround app will work with this iPad, even though it did not
with the first generation iPad. (The web page claims that the app won't work
with any iPod Touch, and that it is not "iPad optimized".)

Incidentally, I believe that the support of iOS 6 on the iPhone 3GS and not on
the first generation iPad probably has to do with the expanded plans for
interactive textbook use on the iPad. This is only a guess, but the processor
on the first generation iPad is probably not up to handling extensive
interaction with large format graphics. This could be the difference between
why the iPhone 3GS might still be supported, but perhaps at a reduced level,
but the first generation iPad not under iOS 6. I'm not sure that all these
interactive textbook functions can be supported on the smaller screens. The
main reason for the push in using the iPad in classrooms and for teaching is
that it is capable of this kind of flexible use. While I may not be a medical
student who has to study anatomical diagrams in their textbooks, I can
understand why textbook publishers are going to embrace the iPad platform. If
the iPad can accommodate all your textbook requirements, and the iPhone is
better suited to pure text content, which are you going to develop for? It's
simpler to provide the texts with accessible image descriptions on the iPad
than to only release a fraction of your books for the iPhone.

Again, just my thoughts and speculation. YMMV.

Cheers,

Esther

Thank you; this is a pleasant surprise to me. I did buy Gordon a
top-of-the-range iPad, 64GB storage and cellular communications; although
apparently 4G is not yet supported in Europe I am told. That said, I'm not so
sure about that because judging by the speed of data transfer we're getting on
the iPhone 4S and iPad 3rd generation, it is infinitely faster than the older
iPad and Gordon's former iPhone 3GS.

• Incidentally, I believe that the support of iOS 6 on the iPhone 3GS and not

That is a very workable hypothesis I think. There must be a reason; and I
believe that on the iPad 3rd generation both of the cores of the A5 dual core
processor are enabled. On the Apple TV, for instance, I gather that is not the
case. In fact the only differences between 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TV are,
so I am told, that the 3G has 512MB of RAM whereas the 2nd has 256MB. This is
to support the HD video compatibility only. That's what I'm told but it's not
sufficient reason for us personally to upgrade since I believe our 2nd
generation model will stay upgradable for a while yet. :)

Hello Lynne,

The other thing that you might enjoy about the third generation iPad is its
camera: the camera on the iPad is as good as the one on the iPhone 4. (Note
that the iPhone 4S has higher resolution, but the iPhone 4 camera is pretty
good).

I think that you just use the camera app on the iPad to record video. There
should be a button in the bottom right corner to switch the mode between photo

If you want to use editing functions on the videos you take, then you can
certainly get iMovie for your iPad. I haven't used this myself, but there is

Re: iPad & GPS

2012-06-20 Thread Glenn
The camera resolution of the iPhone 4 is not that good for OCR.
It is an 5MP camera, but not all the power of the camera is released to
developers for use with the OCR resolution.
It is for this reason that I will not even get the 4S, as I will wait for
the iPhone 5 , as maybe it will have better than the 4S, as the 4S is 8MP, I
suspect that not all the resolution is there for apps as well.
I think Apple would do well to put an even higher MP camera on the iPad as
well.

It kind of looks like iMovie for iOS is inaccessible. Although I can use it
fine, Gordon wouldn't be able too; which is a pity. That's the case with iMovie
on Mac OS X I believe, so we may need to be able to transfer the video content
from device to device in order to edit it. But I will certainly report back to
the list and let everybody know how this goes. I totally understand that the

there are some members who do have some vision who may be interested.

There may well be technical reasons for the design philosophy which went into
both the iPhone 4/4S and the iPad 3. Personally, I look at it this way; both
are mobile devices. It's not reasonable to expect MMS messages to have
horrendously high attachments. If one requires super-high resolution video,
it's possible to buy the iPad Camera Connection kit which will allow you to
connect the webcam of your choice.

Therefore, I really don't think these issues are show-stopping issues, although
yes I do agree that the option would be nice. The audio on the iPhone 4S is
pretty good given the size of the device. And although I haven't yet heard
music from the iPad 3, I have no reason to believe that the audio there won't
be good also. Spoken audio I have heard and that is fine.

Re: iPad & GPS

2012-06-21 Thread Glenn
It does not compare to the KNFB reader, which has the same resolution as the
iPhone 4, because of Apple not releasing the full resolution to developers.
In a perfect situation, I think that the iPhone 4 is okay, but give it
anything challenging, and it is a disappointment, at least, that has been my
experience.
I have used a KNFB, as I used to own one, and it does much better.

Dropbox on iPad Mini

2014-09-15 Thread Eleanor Martha Burke
Hi All, I think the dropbox app has recently been updated. I used to be
able to have the full page open but now there is this left sidebar which is
giving information about other files in Dropbox. I have tried tapping on
the actions button on the bottom right to see if I can get full page but I
only get an option for thumbnails of all the pages in the article. Any
ideas how I can remove this left side bar. Apologies if sidebar is not the
correct term for it. Interestingly this is not an issue on the iPod Touch or
on the iPhone.

iBooks on iPad question

2014-10-20 Thread Timothy J. Meloy
Hi all,
I am using an iPad mini retina display with iBooks. When I go under my
purchases in iBooks on my iPad it shows that all of my books are downloaded.
But when I go under the my books tab to choose a book to read voiceover says
that there is an empty list. So I can't see any of the books that I have
apparently already downloaded onto my iPad. Any suggestions?
Thank u,
TJ

Re: The new iPad.

2012-07-23 Thread Gordon Smith
I doubt very much you'd notice much difference to be honest. I'm not going to
talk about iOS6 because Apple discourages speculation. But your iPad 2 should
be future-proof for a while yet. It's only the original iPad which is being
effectively dropped. Of course, technical support and warranty services won't
be affected if, for example, you have an AppleCare plan which includes your
original iPad.

Re: The new iPad.

2012-07-24 Thread Mrs. Lynnette Annabel Smith
Hello Sadam

On 23 Jul 2012, at 11:31, Sadam Ahmed wrote:

I believe that the only difference between iPad 2 and iPad 3 is the resolution
of the camera. I think they both have the same technical specifications other
than that.

I am aware that some on list have replied to you with reference to iOS6.
However, I won't do that because it's against Apple's code of conduct to
speculate; regardless of the rumour mill. Yes, I know that possibly there may
be contributions to that rumour mill from Apple themselves and yes, I do agree
that sometimes their weird logic and double standards are difficult to fathom..
Nevertheless, you'll find that it is future-proof so in all honesty my advice
would be stick with what you have for the time being.

Lynne
