Thanks so very much guys.
This helped a lot!
Having many devices in sync isn't that easy.
Btw, can one find duplicate events in iCal?

RE: Setting up three or four-way conversations with the Mac and Skype

2009-07-24 Thread Michael Busboom
Darcy, thanks a million! I can't believe that I didn't have the foresight to
try something like that. It worked beautifully and for that I am grateful
to you.

I believe that in many situations, we automatically assume that something
can't be done when, in all actuality, there is a simple solution. Thanks so
much once again!

Skype

Hi Michael. When recording podcasts, most of us do infact use skype. It's
actually really easy to set up a conference. When you're talking to
someone, switch back to the main skype window. Find the third person of
your conference in your contacts list, do a VO shift M on their name to
bring up a context menu, and select add to conference.

Repeat this to add additional people.

I don't know if there's a limit to how many people you can have, or if it's
a matter of bandwidth. The largest conference I've been in had 6
participants.

Hello listers,

In a few days, I will need to start planning an important blindness-related

know that people like Josh, Cara and the screenless switchers use some sort
of voice chat client when they do their roundtable discussions, so I know
that what I wish to do can be accomplished in some way.

My preference would be to use Skype but if it doesn't work or the Skype
conferencing features can't be accessed through Voice Over, then I am open
to any alternatives. Ideally, however, setting this up on Skype would be
best since all of us already have this program.

My sincerest appreciation in advance for any and all input on this subject,

Hi good people.
I'm about to sell my Nokia E66 and want to sync my contacts and such

tried just using isync with my phone but that didn't work so now i
wonder if anyone knows about a plugin for syncing the Nokia E66 via

Hi,

I tried the suggestions in this message for forcing an mp3 to download
and found on my system that the only one that works is to press and
hold option and pressing enter while sitting on the link. This works

Re: Question about downloading audio files linked from web pages in safari

2009-07-24 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
I did a little digging and I believe I found the solution. Open
system preferences.
Go to Quicktime tab. (let me know if you need help navigating to this.)

Under the "Advanced" tab there is a section on plugin preferences. In
there is a "MIME types" button. Hit that button.

There is table. You will have to navigate down to "Audio - Audio only
file formats Expand this and uncheck any formats you want to download
instead of play.

Re: Question about downloading audio files linked from web pages in safari

2009-07-24 Thread Bob Hill

Another way to do this with the blindcooltech site is when you get to
a header, interact with it by pressing vo-shift-downarrow, then you
will hear the name of the link.
Then I press vo-shift-m to bring up a context menu, and there will be
an item to download the link.

That's what's great about the Mac, there are many ways to accomplish
things.

tables on websites

2009-07-24 Thread Woody Anna Dresner

Hi,

I just went to a banking site with Safari that presents information in
tables, as I know from visiting the site using Firefox in Windows.
There is no indication of these tables with VoiceOver, however, so I
can't interact with them as I do the messages table in Mail, where I
can move up and down a column. Is there any way to navigate such
tables with Safari other than one cell at a time?

Thanks,

This is one place where "group navigation" really works well. Even if
you use "dom navigation" for most web pages, I would suggest switching
to group navigation for this site. (too bad there is not a way to
customize this on a per a site basis).

Hi,

Usually you can just put the VO cursor on the column you want to read
and VO-down will read the next item in the column. That being said,
VO will recognize tables in snow leopard.

Re: Where might i find a plugin for isync?

2009-07-24 Thread Abdul Kamara

Greetings,

I sympathize... Much of the site appears to be festooned with flash
animation-- which they do provide the option of deactivating...

Here is the page you are looking for...
http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/isync/compatibility-and-download

When you get to the page, use the item chooser menu (VO-Key + I) and
type E66. It will narrow down to the only entry on that page. Select
it, and move the VO cursor to the right which should read "Download".
It will not read as a link, but don't be fooled, it is.

On the page that follows, select the "Accept and Start Download"
link-- as I'm certain you would have no issue with the software
license agreement. The linkbutton should be about the third or forth
object from the start of the page..

I hope this helps.

Best,

Abdul

I should have mentioned that in my prior post. I didn't think about
it as I always have group turned on.

What I said above about reading individual columns only works when
group is on.

Re: selecting text you are interacting with

2009-07-24 Thread Mark Baxter

Selecting text from a web page doesn't seem to work this way, however,
if in an E-mail, pressing VO Enter turns on selecting, and pressing it
again toggles it of. This works similar to the "block," function in
older word processors like wp5.1. Remember you still have to copy in
order to get the selected text to the clipboard.

MacBook Pro Speakers

2009-07-24 Thread Keith Bucher

Hello,

I would like to hear from anyone who owns or has seen the 13 and 15
inch MacBook Pro models MB991ll/a or the MC118ll/a.

I saw them in a Best Buy, but it was fairly noisy. The 15 inch
model had speakers on each side of the keyboard, while the 13 inch
model's speakers seemed to be either in the screen or just beneath
it.

I'd like any opinions on any difference anyone has heard in the
volume of the speakers between these two models. To me, the 15 inch
MC118ll/a sounded a bit louder, but I wasn't able to determine if it
would be loud enough to justify the approximate $200 increase in
price. I have been unable to find specifications on the size of
the speakers used in each model. But from what I could tell in that
fairly noisy environment, the quality of the sound sounded fairly
similar when comparing these two computers. Thanks for any
information.

Keith

i have the 13 inch mbp, and love it,
when i was upgrading the ram, i found a surprise, there in addition to
the 2 speakers faceing up, is a small speaker under the bottom facing
down. i believe this is intended to give a fuller sound.
i didn't notice any differences from the 13 and 15 inch mbps.

Hi Keith,
I own the new 13 inch MBP and I cannot tell any differench MBP and an
older 15 inch MBP. I cannot tell any difference between the volume
levels of the two machines. Your second question about quality of the
sound is too subjective for me to give you an answer. If you are
worried about sound queality; I'd use external speakers.

Re: Logic 9

2009-07-24 Thread Slau

I've received confirmation from Apple that there are no improvements in this
release of Logic. However, I would strongly encourage anyone interested in
Logic accessibility to email the following people who are either responsible
for audio in OS X or on the Logic team:
Xander Soren
Andreas Dedring
Bob Hunt

I've spoken with Bob Hunt who is definitely on the Logic team. Several years
ago at a trade show, he had indicated that they were working on
accessibility and we've certainly seen a dramatic improvement from version 7
to 8 in Logic Studio. Although I'm also frustrated by the news, I'm still
hopeful that we'll see full accessibility in a future release. If anyone
does decide to email these people, please remember not to antagonize or
criticize harshly but instead, express your concerns along with your support
of Apple's work on the accessibility front for the operating system. What is
it they say about bees and honey?

Cheers!

Re: is os x 64-bit?

2009-07-24 Thread Chris Blouch
Many parts of osx 10.5 are 64 bit but Snow Leopard completes the job
making it all 64-bit. I guess when OSX first came out there was a whole
legacy transition which involved emulators and support for older APIs.
Each new version moved further away from that such as discontinuing the
OS9 emulator and now dropping support for non-Intel processors. Note
that the PowerMac G5 was marketed as the first 64-bit PCs so there are
other factors besides 64-bit that is driving SnowLeopard to be Intel-only.

Re: MacBook Pro Speakers

2009-07-24 Thread Abdul Kamara

Hi Keith,

I agree with much of what has been said on the topic so far... The
output seems to be the same and quality is too subjective a thing on
which to make a definitive claim.

What I can say is there are possibly other considerations you should
take more onboard, assuming you haven't already. I don't know about
you, but there are only a few times I travel without my macbook, and I
am on the road a lot. It is my source of entertainment,
communications and the means through which much of my work is done.
In my case, size really does matter-- the smaller the better. Weight
is a moot issue, as much of it is on my back.

It is possible that you are looking at spending $200 for an additional
2 inches you may not need, and (if you're as persnikity as I am about
these things) the 15 inch may agitate some space issues when on the
road.

If it's simply that you are low vision, and would benefit from a
larger screen, then get the 15 inch. Otherwise, less is more.

Best,

Abdul

Re: Logic 9

2009-07-24 Thread A-Pro Studio

Hi Slau,

I fully agree with you, and I will write some nice lines for these
guys. I ordered Logic Studio 8 when it was launched, even though I knew
it was not very compatible, and I have just ordered the Logic 9
upgrade. This might seem to be a silly thing to do, but I think it
will have some impact both on how well I will know the product when it
is fully VO compatible, and also show that I am having some trust in
their efforts to make this VO compatibility thing happen in the near
future. I know there are several other VO users that have done the
same thing. Also, just like with GarageBand; the better we know the
accessible part of the product, the better we are able to give
constructive feedback on the parts that are not accessible.

Take care,
John André

Re: iTunes tracks out of order was Re: itunes something very annoying

2009-07-24 Thread gene

Hi try going into the info dialog on the actual alvum, make sure the info
tab is selected, and then make sure the alvum artest checkbox is checked,
and then in the alvum artest edit box type in the name of the artest. I had
a patsy cline duets alvum where a number of other people dubbed in with her
and all the songs were out of order in fact, some of them weren't even in
the alvum because itunes seperated them into there own catigory. Sometimes
this works and sometimes it doesn't. I have the michael jackson's thriller
remaster edition that has a few extra songs and a lot of enterviews from
quincy jones and rod temperton and a voice over with vencen price, and some
of the enterviews and spoken word tracks are out of order and I'm not really
sure what to do about that but see if this fixes your problem in this case!
That is so strange why sometimes filling in the alvum artest sometimes fixes
the problem completely and sometimes it doesn't. Heck, Even for the
thriller alvum, even when I put michael jackson as both the alvum artest and
the song artest some of the spoken tracks were still out of order so I don't
know.

2009-07-24 Thread gene

Hi I have a sijmular question, and I know this has been asked before, but
let's say I want to select a few songs from an alvum but not everything else
in betwene, How can I do that, it doesn't seem to matter whither I do shift
up arrow or down arrow it just keeps selecting more stuff and of course it
doesn't tell you exactly what I've selected but I can't seem to find a way
to select just the songs I want as well as everything else.

Re: audio high jack and effects

2009-07-24 Thread Darcy Burnard

Hi Marie. Unfortunately the effects window in audio hijack pro does
not work with VoiceOver. From what I've heard, Rogue Amoeba is
planning on completely re-writing this aspect of the program, so they
have no plans to make it accessible as it is now. I'm not sure when
the new effects system will be released.

Re: selecting specific tracks in itunes

2009-07-24 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn

1. Turn off cursor tracking. (VO-shift-F3)
2. Go to first item to select and select it (VO-Return)
3. Go to additional rows and select with (VO-shift-space)
4. Turn Cursor tracking back on (VO-shift-F3)

You can hear the selected items with vo-shift-F6. I was on the USAJOBS
web site yesterday picking out local job locations in 3 states, oh boy
was that fun, but the same principles worked there.

Purchasing Acapela Heather Voice

2009-07-24 Thread Robert Carter

Hi,

I am wanting to purchase the Acapela text to speech voice, Heather,
for my Mac. I was looking at assistiveware.com and it wasn't clear to
me what to purchase.

Does anybody know how to get Heather and how much does she cost?

Thanks,

Re: MacBook Pro Speakers

2009-07-24 Thread Scott Howell

That speaker facing down is a subwoofer believe it or not. Honestly I
didn't notice a really massive difference in sound. THe 15-inch does
seem a little louder, but then the speakers might be spaced a bit
further out and I believe they are more under the keyboard on the 13-
inch. However, I purchased the 15-inch not for sound, but difference
in processor performance etc. Btw, can you tell me where the ram is on
the MBP once you remove the bottom cover? I haven't poked about in a
laptop much and might just be missing it. I'm pretty sure they are
generally laid out the same.

Re: MacBook Pro Speakers

2009-07-24 Thread Chris Polk

if you remove the screws, and the laptop is upsidedown, the hinges for
the display towards you, the ram is on the left hand side about 2
thirds of the way up.
the ram is stacked, so you will only see one chip, the other one is
below the first.
hope that makes sense.

Re: MacBook Pro Speakers

2009-07-24 Thread Dave Wright

I'm in the process of saving for an MBP myself. Just out of curiosity, what
is the difference in processor performance between the 13 VS the 15? From
what I've noticed online, it's possible to get the same processor
configurations for both? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Re: MacBook Pro Speakers

2009-07-24 Thread Scott Howell

Thanks Chris. I don't know why I couldn't find it, but then there is
this cover on something on the left side. I of course am not sure if I
mentioned this is the model with the battery you cannot replace. with
the cover off my MBP, the hard drive is on the left and the battery is
on the right and there are two fans almost in the middle a bit more
toward the rear or where the screen attaches. So, I'm not sure, but
imagine these machines are similar. THanks and I'll have another look
and it may be that I was looking for something a little larger than I
was expecting.

Re: MacBook Pro Speakers

2009-07-24 Thread Scott Howell

The MBP 13-inch tops out at 2.53Ghz I believe and the 15-inch stock
tops out at 2.8Ghz, but I think you can get a 3.06Ghz chip. I can't
recall all the particulars, but for me it came down to three things.
FIrst my wife's machine which was a first generation Intel iMac was
having some issues, so I made the decision that if I was going to
replace the machine, I'd get a notebook and give her my 20-inch iMac.
Secondly I wanted to replace my iMac with a machine with similar
specs, and finally third, I didn't want to wait and I quite frankly
can't go into that, but there was a need. Point is if you can get the
machine via the Apple store online and order it the way you want,
great. If not, the 15-inch does offer more in terms of cpu speeds etc.
when your talking stock. I'd love to have gotten the same MBP in a 13-
inch box, but I didn't have that option. Of course just get a system
you can live with for a while because I like to try and keep them for
as long as possible. :)
Good luck, you'll be happy with whichever machine you purchase.

mike for a Mac Mini

2009-07-24 Thread Woody Anna Dresner

Hi,

I would like to buy a microphone/earphones combination that will work
with my Mac Mini. I bought a USB headset mike last week, but it turned
out that it only works with Windows. What do I need to look for to be
sure it will work?

Thanks a lot,
Anna

Re: mike for a Mac Mini

2009-07-24 Thread Robert Carter

Hi Anna,

How do you know that it only works with Windows. Have you gone in to
preferences on the Mac to see if it shows up under sounds? If it does
show up,
you just need to select it to get it started working.

Re: Apple's much-anticipated tablet device coming early next year

2009-07-24 Thread Abdul Kamara
Gosh,

I guess I should be thrilled about this. But it's a bit
anticlimactic. My sense is, the article is sourced from a calculated
leak on the part of Apple, to stoke a bit of excitement about a
rollout most people saw coming.

That said, I'd be very interested to see the difference in design
approach of the much speculated Netbook/tablet to that of the iPhone/
iPod Touch.

Re: Apple's much-anticipated tablet device coming early next year

2009-07-24 Thread Scott Howell
Yes, I've ben reading a good deal on this as well and so it really is
not much of a surprise. There was some interesting bits tossed into
the article, but in any event, I will be curious as well. I gather it
will have at least one or two usb ports, be capable of video
conferencing, and well generally it will be targeting I get the
impression that perhaps it will have more horsepower and perhaps ram,
but the overall interface apparently will be the same or mighty close
to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Now what I find interesting is if this
thing is to be another iPhone if you will, I wonder how it will work
as far as no one is going to hold this monster up to their head and I
imagine a bluetooth earphone will be a must or some headphone.
So, it will be interesting to learn as this progresses. Of course one
other thing that is interesting is the keyboard will certainly be
larger.

2009-07-24 Thread Woody Anna Dresner

Hi Robert,

Thanks so very much! When I plugged the mike in this morning and
nothing happened, and it came with a CD with Windows drivers and
nothing for the Mac, I figured I was out of luck. But when I opened
Sounds as you suggested, I found out the Mac did see it, and it works
just fine.

All the best,
Anna

Heather comes as part of every package of voices from Acapela. You can
purchase the American voices, the British voices, or voices in any
other language and you will have Heather as part of the deal.

keyboard shortcuts for Skype

2009-07-24 Thread Woody Anna Dresner

Hi,

Now that I have a working microphone for Skype, are there any keyboard
shortcuts for answering calls, hanging up, etc.? I tried Skype help,
but couldn't find anything. I also don't see global options for
setting up keyboard commands in Skype preferences the way I did in the
Windows version.

Thanks,
Anna

Tips on Non-Contiguous Selection [was Re: selecting specific tracks in itunes]

2009-07-24 Thread Esther

HI Gene, Jonathan, and Others,

I select non-contiguous items in a different fashion, and use VO-
Command-Space to choose tracks after turning off cursor tracking.
This method works for selecting items in Finder and other lists,
columns, etc. If you're in iTunes, and have already interacted with
the songs table and are positioned at your first selection, start at
step 3:

1. Interact with the table, column, etc. (VO-Shift-Down Arrow)
2. Navigate to the first item you want to select
3. Turn off cursor tracking (VO-Shift-F3)
4. Navigate to each additional item you want and select with VO-
Command-Space
5. Turn cursor tracking back on (VO-Shift-F3)
6. Perform your selected action (Copy, Add to Playlist, etc.)

Here are some other tips:
• You can check your selection at any time with VO-F6
• VO-Command-Space is a toggle action that can be used to de-select
as well as to select, and the item you have selected or deselected
will get announced each time you perform the command. So, if you
checked your selection with VO-F6 and discovered there was an item you
didn't mean to select, just navigate to it and use VO-Command-Space
again to de-select the item.
• If you are going through a long list of items, I find it easiest to
lock my VoiceOver keys (VO-Semi-Colon); then I typically just go up
and down the list with my arrow keys and press Command-Space to select
or de-select items and press F6 to check selections. I unlock my
VoiceOver keys by pressing Semi-Colon when I'm done. Of course, other
navigation commands, such as moving to the top or bottom of a list
with VO-Home or VO-End (VO-Fn-Shift-Left arrow and VO-Fn-Shift-RIght
arrow) also work.

So for Gene, if I were in the iTunes songs table and wanted to move
through a long list tracks to make selections, I'd start out in the
song name column, after having first winnowed down the list by using
the File Browser (toggled on or off with Command-B) or the search text
field to shorten the list of interest by matching to a specific album,
artist, or other search term, and move to my first selection. Then I
would do:

1. Turn cursor tracking off (VO-Shift-F3)
2. Lock VoiceOver keys (VO-Semi-colon)
3. Arrow up or down to items of interest and select with Command-Space
3a. Optionally check selections with F6; modify selections by arrowing
to the desired item and deselect with Command-Space
4. Unlock VoiceOver keys by pressing Semi-colon
5. Turn cursor tracking on (VO-Shift-F3)
6. Perform the action you want, e.g. New playlist from selection with
Command-Shift-N; Add to Playlist with VO-Shift-M and select from the
contextual menu, etc.

You can also bookmark the quick tip about this from the lioncourt.com
site:

http://www.lioncourt.com/2008/04/09/mac-cessibility-quick-tip-12/

This is, indeed discussed in the archives, and you can also read my
post:

http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40macvisionaries.com/msg36686.html
(Selecting non-contiguous items)

I couldn't quite use Jonathan's commands in iTunes.

HTH

Cheers,

Esther

Re: keyboard shortcuts for Skype

2009-07-24 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn

You should be able to set this up in the system preferences.

Under Keyboard and mouse there is a tab called keyboard shortcuts.

By default there are no skype shortcuts, but below the table are two
buttons the first is add and the second is remove.

I did not actually try this myself, but when you click that first
button it gives instructions. Give it a wirl and let us know.

Re: Apple's much-anticipated tablet device coming early next year

2009-07-24 Thread Abdul Kamara
I'm more inclined to think it will be more web focused, not telephony.

I'd be impressed if unlike the iPhone or iPod Touch, it would provide
for more choice of input devices be it via USB or BlueTooth.

But again, we speculate.

Until then, back I go to scheming on the purchase of an iPhone.

Best,

Abdul

Voice over does not have a table navigation mode as the windows screen
readers do, so you would simply navigate it item by item. Usually this

She is actually part of the u.s. or u.k. english package. You would

Summary Information on Heather and other Infovox voice purchase options from U.S. [was Re: Purchasing Acapela Heather Voice}

2009-07-24 Thread Esther

Hi Robert, Marie, and others,

In the U.S. you purchase the Acapela group's voices, which are sold for the Mac
as Infovox/iVox voices distributed by Assistiveware, from Origin Instruments.
When you navigate from the Assistiveware pages to do a purchase in the U.S.,
you're directed to the Origin Instruments page at this link:

http://orin.com/ec/infovox_ivox/

However, this page only has settings for the most popular language packages
(like French and Spanish). They sell all the products described on the
Assistiveware site pages, but you have to email or call in for items that don't
show up on their site, like languages such as Greek or Russian. When you
purchase from the Origin Instruments page you do not go through the Kagi
payment pages that some list members have complained about, but you can just
call Origin Instruments directly or send them an email.

Here's the contact information:

Origin Instruments Corporation
854 Greenview Drive
Grand Prairie, Texas 75050-2438
USA

Voice: 972-606-8740
FAX: 972-606-8741
email: supp...@orin.com

As Anne mentioned, the Heather voice is included in every Infovox/iVox language
package, so you get this if you buy the British English voice pack, for
example. Additional language packs are $49.50. You can also buy a household
license that allows you to use the voice packs on up to 5 computers for $149
(non-Scandinavian languages -- this is the price if you purchase one voice pack
with the household license instead of a single user license). If you purchased
a single user license before, you can also buy something called a household
extension license ($79 for non-Scandinavian languages). You can also buy the
GhostReader+Infovox/iVox bundle (apparently for any language, so you could get
the French version of GhostReader, the French Infovox/iVox voices, and the
Heather English voice and use all the French voices in GhostReader plus
Heather, Alex, and any of your system voices).

GhostReader is not designed for the visually impaired market, but may be of
special interest to low-vision users or users who work in multiple languages.
The voices are compressed versions of the Acapela voices that can only be used
within GhostReader to read web pages, mail, or documents while the Infovox/iVox
voices can be used system-wide with VoiceOver. GhostReader can also use any of
your system voices. You can switch to different language voices on the fly
with keyboard shortcuts, record spoken selections to sound files, and it has
some nice features like skipping paragraphs or sentences or repeating text.
However, you're using the GhostReader interface and not VoiceOver, so you don't
have the same flexibility in navigating through web pages, interacting,
selecting links, etc. and it's a bit tricky to start working with this with
no vision. Anne may have more comments about this. There's an undocumented
feature that allows you switch voices in applications like TextEdit if a
control sequence specific to GhostReader is inserted.

Since there is a "Value bundle" of Infovox/iVox + GhostReader for $109
(non-Scandinavian language of your choice, single user license) I thought it
was worth mentioning GhosReader. I didn't find out about a lot of these
options until after I had made purchases, and in some cases the options were
not available at the time I purchased. This composite information is the
result of reading through the Assistiveware pages, the Origin Instrument pages,
phone questions to Origin Instruments, and answers to queries on the list
supplied by David Niemeijer of Assistiveware. To search for more information
in the archives, try using Infovox instead of Acapela.

HTH

Cheers,

Esther

Re: tables on websites

2009-07-24 Thread James Mannion

I thought it might be useful to mention that if you are on a site and
you open up the voiceover utility and then go to the web settings, if
you switch modes it will switch the mode on the web site you are
currently on when you switch back to the safari window. For now that
is the best for a "switch" to switch between them, but it is not that
bad as a work around for that. If you know you might be switching
back and forth, just keep your voiceover window open so you can flip
over to it quickly and switch that check box. One thing I do wonder
though if anyone knows anything I didn't catch on to, I was on a site
the other day and had groups mode on and was trying to read an article
listed under a heading. Because groups mode was on and there were
things in other columns going down the page, the other columns broke
up the article when trying to read through it. I guessed that was
just a site where groups mode didn't work out so well. Then I see
someone here though that says they always have groups mode on and I
have heard others that use it pretty much exclusively. Is there a
good way of handeling such situations in groups mode?

Re: Question about downloading audio files linked from web pages in safari

2009-07-24 Thread James Mannion

Thank you all for all the answers you gave me to this. I find that
the shift-control-options m to bring up that menu only sometimes
works. On something like on the front age of serotalk.com for example
it does not give you the appropriate option in that menu. That was
what made me realize it wasn't a usable anser for all cases and I
don't know about most or not. Armed with these suggestions though
that issue should no longer be a problem.

Web links where VO-Shift-M does not give download menu options [was Re: Question about downloading audio files linked] from web pages in safari

2009-07-24 Thread Esther

Hi James,

I just checked the Serotalk web pages in both Safari and the latest WebKit, and
you're correct that VO-Shift-M doesn't work on their podcast links to show you
the option to download. I tried both group and DOM navigation modes for both
Safari and WebKit; I tried this with and without the cursor tracking option
turned on and with cursor routed to the link. Control-click doesn't bring up
the menu with the option to download, either. It also doesn't matter whether
I've tried to interact first. It's as though the focus is centered on an
element box and not actually on the link so that VO-Shift M (or Control-Click)
doesn't take effect. Option+Enter will work on all these cases, though. Sounds
like something to report to accessibil...@apple.com with this specific site
(serotalk.com) as an example.

Cheers,

Esther

Fwd: Microsoft stores to mimic Apple's with "Guru Bars"

2009-07-24 Thread Scott Howell
WOw, maybe Microsoft is feeling a little pressured to try emulating
Apple even more? This should prove quite fascinating and I assume with
all these PCs they plan to sell, would mean third-party deals with
Dell and other companies. What is interesting is if they will have
demos of the windows-based screen readers. :)

Oh how sad...

I bet the people at Microsoft were "squirting" all over each other
Zoons in hand when they came up with that...

Yeah, this is one of few areas where I would criticize Apple. It is
problematic when Geniuses know nothing about the accessibility
components of the operating system, or at least, not reliably so.. to
the extent that they could demonstrate it in house.
