firefox
Ray asked about whether firefox is ready for prime time but it was asked under the webvisum thread. This really doesn't belong in the webvisum thread as it's going to be confusing for anybody trying to find information about webvisum. As for prime time which I believe was Ray's question, thatdepends on whose prime time. I use it but i haven't made it my default browser. It definitely can be used but probably takes more experience than safari to know what to do. -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Re: Setting up vertual box on my mac?
It is not at all accessible on the mac, you have to create the vm in Windows and then export it. You'll then import that vm on the mac, and hope you hit the right keys at the right time. An easier way would be to have sighted help for the initial setup. Re: OT: Change.Org Petition Samsung Attack On Vlind
Hi there How long is this thing good for? I did it because I think it's the least I can do, even though the case is not here in the United States, at least not yet. I realize it's not an easy process, but I personally think we should get laws passed saying that companies can't mess with accessibility in this manner. This is because they are not just attacking the company they want to attack. They are doing it to their customers as well. I like this last message best. To add to the hope, we now have some greedy investors demanding a guaranteed 4% return on their investment for sitting around and doing nothing! I've been noticing that a lot myself. I use the mobile site, and even now have a lot of trouble searching and the like, and even more trouble with the IPhone app. I can search for someone using the IPhone app, but when I find someone, it won't tell me if they have any mutual friends, just shows the person's name, then a link to conferm then, which is a huge inconvenience for me, considering the fact that Amanda Smith, is a really comon name, for example, just to throw a name out there. Re: OT: Change.Org Petition Samsung Attack On Vlind
Join the club, not just for that reason, but the last time I bought one of their products, the Intrepid phone with Sprint, I had problem after problem with it. It crashed repeatedly, when I did the slightest thing with it, and nobody at the Sprint stores I took it to could figure out what was wrong with it, and continuously tried to blame the Mobile Speak software for it crashing, which was upsetting to me. So after about the 4th or 5th time it did this, and this was after I had to have help resetting it 2 days in a row, I just didn't reinstall Mobile Speak again, and decided to pay full price for a 32 gb IPhone, sense I unfortunately wasn't elegible for an upgrade yet, and wasn't willing to wait anymore. So now my Intrepid is now one of Hannah's toys, and she loves to pretend to call her Granddad, and check her messages lol. Re: OT: Change.Org Petition Samsung Attack On Vlind
In reading some further posts on the web, this is worse than I thought. The only article I read earlier today lead me to believe it was about the triple click home to start voiceover. IT is not. IT is about the very heart of voiceover for us, its ability to read things on the screen. An article points out that this is the case and that Samsung is not even trying to protect their technology for accessibility, they are simply using it as a weapon. So they are completely putting us up as a sacrifice for their battles. One can only hope the courts will see right through this and consider it exactly what it is. http://www.fosspatents.com/2013/02/german-court-stays-samsungs-voiceover.html one. Samsung didn't assert this German patent in an effort to protect its investment in accessibility. It elected to use an accessibility-related patent as a tactical weapon. Patent protection and enforcement can be justified in certain scenarios. For example, if there are two companies competing in the market for hearing aids, it's generally legitimate for them to assert accessibility-related patents against each other. I would also support the idea of accessibility patent enforcement in cases of willful infringement, and if Samsung had only requested monetary compensation in this action, it would have made a much better choice than by trying to achieve, through the pursuit of an injunction, the deactivation or (more realistically) degradation of the voiceover functionality Apple provides to its German customers. In recent weeks I have been contacted by a couple of journalists who report on and care about accessibility issues. One of them told me he's blind. I completely understand why the vision-impaired are concerned when they hear about a lawsuit like this one. Maybe there's a cultural difference here between Asia and the Western hemisphere. In the United States and Europe, people may be more sensitive to this type of issue than in Korea. I don't think Samsung is evil. I really don't. But it should give more thought to the wider implications of its retaliatory actions against Apple. On 2/24/13, James Mannion mannion...@gmail.com wrote: So incredibly ridiculous too. Re: OT: Samsung Suing Apple Over Voice Over!
This is not necessarily a molehill. what if the German courts had sided with Samsung? this could have had repercussions worldwide. Also, it was a stay - delay till a patent ruling is completed. In other words, it isn't over yet. We need to keep looking back over our shoulders in case similar rulings could happen in the US. These patent wars can adversely affect many of us if we sit around and do nothing. Looking for a good checking account program
Hi. I have been looking for a good checking account program for the mac ever since giving up money talks from APH. Since then, I have been using clear Checkbook because I can enter transactions and read registry items using either their web site or my iPhone. I really like the fact that accounts are synced to my phone; so I can make entries when away from home and my computer. I have been playing a bit with Quicken 13 over the weekend. What I have found is that their iPhone app will let me enter items into the registries and will give me an end of balance total so I know at all times even when away from my computer how much is in my accounts. With a little work, one can even examine registry entries; though I admit that this could be better with a little more voiceover support. what I would like is a program which is useable on my mac or pc and one which will also sync data with my iPhone. I want to be able to add entries as well as examine registry entries with my phone. What are people using out there? It's a shame we can't have a version of money talks for the mac and one for the iPhone where data would be synced between devices. Is there another checking account program out there other than Clear Checkbook which is accessible and syncs data with the iPhone? Has anyone tried contacting Intuit to see if they would make their Mac app more accessible? I welcome any feedback and will be contacting Intuit myself about whether they would be willing to make Quicken 13 more accessible than it's previous versions. Hi JP. I just signed your petition. I also forwarded it to my friend that also uses an iPhone. It's like Samsung wants us to all go back to using 3rd party screen readers. Well I'm not going back to that. I like my iPhone and I like my Mac. So yeah, I hope Samsung reads my comments in the petition. Re: key stroke question
Hello, this toggles the multiple selection of items, such as in a list of documents where you want to select multiple items to copy and paste, etc. VO+K enters into the Keyboard Help mode, which will give you a brief description of key commands without actually performing the action. I hope this helps. Harry On Feb 24, 2013, at 10:26 PM, Kirsten Edmondson kirsten.edmond...@btinternet.com wrote: Hi, Please can someone advise me what the below key stroke does? I accidentally pressed VO plus cmd plus space and a funny noise occurred. What have I done? What do I need to do to reverse it? Many thanks.
