Ok, I am embarrassed about this mistake… My Mac was connected to my guest

Braille, safari etc.

2015-10-13 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello All.

I have installed El Capitan on my I Mac three times since I messed it up twice
so I’ve had plenty of practice. I must say even though I had help putting the
installer on a USB stick, it was the first time that I installed the whole
operating system on my own. I could not have done this if I had been using
Windows. It’s an achievement for me since during the day, I use Windows at
work and only use the Mac at home so I don’t get a great deal of time using the
Mac operating system on a regular basis.

First, I have altered some preferences in Safari on my Mac and Mac Mini and
still the favourite bar even though I went in view options to get rid of it
keeps coming up. So when I open safari, my home page won’t come up even though
I have specified that in preferences. All I want is a clean page of safari
when I open it so I get a home page, a bit like what you get in windows. Hope
this makes sense as it’s the end of the day for me and I hope I’m making sense.

Secondly, when i connect my Focus to my I phone 6S plus, it crashes. Has
anyone experienced this and is the Focus broken with IOS 9 on an I phone? I
have the newer models of Focus, the 40 and 14 respectively.

I haven’t read all of Jonathan’s book yet due to time constraints but will get
round to it in case something has changed in braille.

Hope someone replies.

Thank you.

Kawal.

Re: Airport Utility, where's my Bay Station gone?

2015-10-13 Thread Traci Duncan
Hello,

It shows network group. I interact with this & it says internet working
normally. If I voSpace on this, a pop-over appears showing router address, DNS
servers, domain name, etc.

Beside the network group is the other wifi devices button.

When I launch airport utility via iPad it shows my wireless network.
I wonder what’s going on. I should see the 3 devices using my wifi network
right now.

Re: Nisus, Word, or pages?

2015-10-13 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi Anne,
Openoffice has its own proprietary format as well, but it doesn’t force us to
use it. It would be simple just to have the format menu in the save as dialog
include word as well but it doesn’t and the result? if you don’t know what you
do you’ll end up with 2 versions of the same document, one in Apples own format
which you can edit direct but which no other word processor can do anything
about and a word document which many word processors including Word of course,
Openoffice, Libreoffice and possibly a few more can work with.

Hi Traci,

What *are* you seeing instead? Does the “Internet” icon show up and when
pressed does it say “Connected”?

And are you sure you are connected directly to the Wi-Fi network that AirPort
is providing, without any intervening relays, repeaters, bridges etc? Note
that if another Wi-Fi network is being used to extend your primary base
station, this is actually quite a common (mis)configuration.

Re: Network printer vs wireless printer?

2015-10-13 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Plug it in with Ethernet and let it power up. Now turn on Bonjour in Safari
prefs and see if, in the Bookmarks menu, you now have an entry in the Bonjour
submenu for that printer. You might. And it might just lead to a page that
lets you configure it, including its Wi-Fi adaptor. If nothing shows up under
Bonjour, look in your router’s DHCP table, if you know how. There you may see
the IP address of the just-acquired printer address lease.

My Epson didn’t; the web page was just an ink level status meter. But my HP
LaserJet most assuredly does. I don’t use Wi-Fi though; it’s near enough for
Ethernet. Moreover my printer supports Wi-Fi Direct, so even with Wi-Fi on, it
need not be connected to my network; it acts as a little Wi-Fi network of its
own that can be used for printing by anybody in range. And I set up EPrint so
I can just email it to print, if I’m afar (also works with Google CloudPrint).
HP are really quite good about accessibility. About the only thing I can’t do,
rather stupidly, is operate the copier functions; some other printers have
little smartphone apps for that, but mine has the regular old touch keypad (not
touchscreen).

Anyway, see how you go. You might be able to go quite far once it’s plugged in
to the net.

Hey again... Sorry, I sent that before I was done!

The mac drivers are solid and the preamps are very nice! It's bus
powered and the form factor is very small. It is also very durable.

You have two xlr/line inputs, phantom power, midi ports, main stereo
outs with volume control, and two headphone outs with volume controls.

It works great under mac OSX but does not work under windows seven
with bootcamp. I need an interface that works under both platforms and
the product page did not specify that windows seven under bootcamp was
a no go!

Anyways, get in touch if you want a good deal on a mint condition
interface with brand new thunderbolt cable that has been used a grand
total of one time!

Hello Krister,

Pages, and iWork in general, is Apple’s proprietory word processing format and
it only saves into Pages format. All other formats require exporting. This is
normal. Pages is not Word. Why should it save into Word format?

Cheers,

Re: Trillian help.

2015-10-13 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Go to your menu bar with vo+M. Vo+right arrow over to the window menu.
VO+down arrow to open the menu. See in there if there is a main window, or
contacts, or something to that effect. You've probably accidentally hidden
the main contact trillion window.

When you say the conversation window, I presume you're referring to where
you type an IM message to a particular contact.

No offense, but seriously. Explore your menu bar, etc. You'll find a ton
of power there, as well as in your vo+shift+M context menu.

If you need any further help, it is during business hours, so just let me
know if you need to set up a personalized support insident.

Hi. Yes, there are a bunch of thunderbolt hubs on the market...

What is your specific machine? Do you have a firewire port? Does your

thunderbolt?

If you're dead set on a USB audio interface, I'd suggest Mark of the
unicorn or Focusrite. USB should really be the last choice though for
reliable multi track audio...

Does anyone here use trillian for the mac with voiceover?
If so i have a few questions .
1. how do you send a file?
When i tried i could not send one.
2. How do you recieve a file as well.
What voiceover commands work the best when using trillian?

Re: Mixer and Mike recommendations for podcasting.

2015-10-13 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Seems like most Thunderbolt devices I've run across only have one port,
making daisy chaining not possible. The Resident Audio box only has one.
For USB and Firewire you could get a hub to get around the lack of two
ports for daisy chaining. Does such a box exist for Thunderbolt?

Re: Mixer and Mike recommendations for podcasting.

2015-10-13 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I do, but that's just more gear I would have to buy, and right now, finances
are very limited due to family medical expenses which have been unexpected.
Right now, I can't afford both a hub as well as a mixer/interface. The
interface alone is gonna absolutely kill me, but at this point, it has to be
done, like it or not.

If you know of any further devices which could work, let's talk off list.

clgillan...@gmail.com

As for keeping things on the list, aside from a hub, is there any other way
I could daisy chain, or the like which would be mac, and more specifically
El Capitan compatible?

Right now, I'm using the M-Audio Fasttrack C400 audio/Midi interface. Now,
if anyone can find me compatible El Capi drivers? I'll be one heck of a
happy camper, but I've looked practically everywhere and don't see anything.

I'm not totally sure what you mean by your second question. Just navigate
Trillion like you would any app with normal Voiceover commands.

As for your first question, when on the contact list window, find the
contact you want to send a file to, vo+shift+M on them to bring up your
context menu, and one of the options should be to send a file.

Does anyone here use trillian for the mac with voiceover?
If so i have a few questions .
1. how do you send a file?
When i tried i could not send one.
2. How do you recieve a file as well.
What voiceover commands work the best when using trillian?

Re: Nisus, Word, or pages?

2015-10-13 Thread Phil Halton
Personally, I do all my word processing in TextEdit, and then transfer that
draft file into a pages document. I use the pages document to add features that
are not available in TextEdit such as headers and footers, tables, and some
formatting as well. I consider the TextEdit as the draft editor, and pages as a
sort of "rapper", where I can add additional features not available elsewhere.
This works out well for me.

Re: Mixer and Mike recommendations for podcasting.

2015-10-13 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Actually, that's not going to work for me, as I need USB. Long story short,
I'm using a monitor which currently is plugged to my thunderbolt port, and
seeing that I do! have some usable vision, I really do not wish to
disconnect it.

Sorry.

This is why I asked about this particular Scarlet interface.

Chris.

Hi. I'm selling a brand new resident audio T2 thunderbolt audio/midi
interface with new five meter thunderbolt cable that works with
thunderbolt 1 and 2 ports.

Shoot me an e mail if interested.

Cameron.

I'm actually as well in the market for not so much a mixer, as much as an
audio/midi interface. The interface I now have won't work with El

as it's just too old. Plus, it's no longer even being supported by the
manufacturer. So, though I love what I have, the bottom line is, if I
want

to get on El Capitan, it's gonna have to be upgraded, bottom line. This
said, does anyone know about the Focusright Scarlet 6I6? Sweetwater is
swearing left and right up and down to me about it saying how they think
it

would be absolutely perfect for my need. How're the mac drivers? I hear
they are extremely stable, as they actually just use the OSX core audio,
rather than their own native driver.

Hi. The blue spark is an amazing microphone for the money.

As for a small format mixer, the mackie Onyx line has great microphone
preamps and very nice EQ etc. Have a look at those. The drivers are
very stable as well.

Hi Cameron,

A product between AU$900 to 1000 would be great.

I probably want to record myself as Wellers VoiceOver output from the
Mac.

Hi. I can certainly give you some recommendations...

What's your budget?

How many channels of audio do you plan to record at a time?

Cameron.

Good day guys,

For those of you that do pod casting is there any particular mixer
or

microphone combination you'd recommend?

Thanks for any insight.

Primarily I'll be recording audio demonstrations for my website.

Re: Nisus, Word, or pages?

2015-10-13 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi,
Although pages is easier to use in many aspects, i do not like it and that’s
for one reason and one reason alone: You can’t load a Word document into Pages,
edit or modify it and then save directly to Word format again, oh no, you’ll
have to ”export” it into Word. The only formats you can save directly into are
Apples own and i think text .rtf and possibly .pdf as well. If Apple had done
what Openoffice does and have Word as a format you could save to directly that
would be ok, after all i think Openoffice has its own format as well, but alas
no and that is a deal breaker for me.

No, I am not using activities. I hear that others have not experienced my
