RE: Apple TV weirdness

2016-03-04 Thread Simon Fogarty
Under general and settings if I remember orrectly, there is a network option,
go into that and then you should be able to view the network addressing

I'm just wondering if your DNS ip addresses might have been miss set and your
not getting any traffic through your ISP to the outside world.

I haven't tried to view the IP and DNS settings. How do you do that?

I think the wireless signal is OK. It's worked well up until the other night,
and other devices have no problem connecting wirelessly in that same room.

Thanks for the suggestion, Simon.

attaching speed dots tactile screen protector to iPhone 6S

2016-03-04 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

My tactile screen protector just arrived. I thought they might have included
some instructions, but they don't. Did you attach it yourself? If so, how? I
have the Otterbox protector and the iPhone 6S.

Thanks in advance for any help.

he should be able to help you replace the file and or get ahold of Ann.

My understanding is that Mosen Consulting would help you with any

Chris,

LinkedIn is great for resumes because it does the formatting for you
and order the dates of employment in the proper order. Try Indeed.com,
too. It alerts you to job opportunities.

I will say, Chris, as someone who built his resume, created accounts
on LinkedIn, indeed etc, that this will take time. I would suggest
taking an hour or two a day to build up an internet presence. That
way it is not energy zapping. Don't try to do it in one sitting.

Do you have a GoodWell or some other kind of job search service? They
are generally free. Also, do you have a department services for the

Guys,

I understand that this list is for discussing Apple products and their
accessibility. Trust me, I have every single intention to tie my
question

back into that aspect, so don't let the subject line scare you away.

To keep things short, sweet, and fairly simple, let me sum things up
this
way. I am very interested in trying to seek other employment. Yes, I
do

try running my own business, CLG Productions, but honestly, things have
not been the most successful. I'm just not sure I have the skills to
run

my own business to the extent I was hoping to do so.

The reason that I am coming to you all on this list is that I need a
couple of recommendations from the Apple accessibility and usability
side

of things.

First of all, right now, I have three mac computers: a mid 2012 13 inch
Macbook Pro, a late 2012 Mac Mini, and a mid 2010 13 inch polycarbon
Macbook. All of these are currently running El Capitan 10.11.3. I
would

presume that for job hunting, any of those three systems would work just
fine.

In addition, I have an IPad Air first generation 32 gig wifi only with a
rechargeable bluetooth keyboard/case combo.

Finally, I have an AT&T 128GB IPhone 6S.

My question is first of all, either for the mac, or for any of my I O S
devices, what are some good apps that I might want to start with for job
hunting? I know about LinkedIn, but I haven't honestly been able to get
my head around that web site, let alone the app. I really would need
some
coaching regarding that. I'm really having to step back here and
honestly

evaluate my skills. I can say, though I'm not exactly proud of it, I am
not the best at LinkedIn, which could be a major downfall, as I know so
many companies these days use it. So, on that note, if any of you can
give me some pointers, or maybe work with me at least over phone,
Facetime, or Skype to get the very very basics set up, I probably could
take it from there. I just need someone to at least help me get
started.

Facebook and Twitter are no problems. I am quite familiar with both.
Same goes with Craigslist.

Where my skills really are majorly lacking however is in the field of
word

processing. I am fairly decent with Microsoft Word on the Windows side
of things, but again, we're speaking OSX and I O S here, not Windows.
Correct me if I am wrong, but Word does work on the mac, I know it does,
but I also know that there are some issues which not only can be a bit
limiting, but also can be down right irritating. Right now, I don't
have
time to spend much learning an application that is only going to half
way

work, at best.

I know that Pages is quite doable. Actually, go figure, after all the
kabosh that just took place on list, I have indeed bought Ann's book,
and
I have every intention to start on it today; that's one of my goals on
the

day's agenda. Basically, with Pages, I need to learn how to write the
receiving address on a standard sized envelope. I'm talking about the
rectangular kind with the triangular flap that you'd fold an 8X11 sheet
of

paper in half, then put down in the thing, put a stamp or two, lick the
seal,

RE: Trying to use talking Windows installer on my MacBookAir.

2016-03-04 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi,

Yeah I’ve never used the talking installer thing but I have heard of it.

I do however have a USB speaker which I use when installing windows to a non
mac computer.

This allows me to finish the windows install after the initial setup is done
and I can get narrator running.

I have to admit that till now I’ve not tried it with bootcamp but as I’m going
to reimage my MBA I might have to give it a try but I’m guessing it wont work
due to drivers for bootcamp having not been installed till the last thing in
the setup.

RE: Understanding the VMware concepts with windows

2016-03-04 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Chris,

Yeah that's the problem with mac resources but I'm thinking I might get myself
an external drive ssd with thunderbolt and then setup my VM's on that so I
don't have to use the drive space for my MBA still ram will be an issue due to
what I'm looking to do.

Just a quirey

Can you view the ip and dns settings of your apple tv and see if its actually
picking up the correct addressing

Also, would it be worthwhile taking the apple tv to a location closer to the
wifi device or even better connecting it via cable to your network to see if
it's just a limited signal in the location it's currently in.

Hi:
I had this same issue, kind of. I had to make sure both computer, and apple tv
were on the same network. I went to itunes, file, home sharing, to make sure
the correct apple id was bing used. I put the same ID info in computers under
the Apple TV. Here is the part I was screwing up. I didn’t have my laptop
opened, and itunes opened when I was trying to use home share.

Hi.

In Pages, when I misspell a word, I do not receive the “Mispelled” announcement
that tells me I have misspelled a word. If I knowingly misspell and then use
the left arrow, I do get the bubble feedback and list of possible spellings. I
do get the announcement in Text Edit, and I do not have any activities set
that might make my Pages VoiceOver settings different. Anyone have an idea
what might be going on here? I have the same spelling options in both apps,
“check spelling as you go,” is on, and “correct spelling automatically,” is
off.

Thanks for any help

Bill

Re: Syncing questions

2016-03-04 Thread Seyoon Choi
The easiest way to do this is through iCloud. Enable iCloud contacts on both
your Mac and iPhone and make sure all your contacts are stored in iCloud. As
far as transferring and syncing apps from Mac i don’t quite understand what you
mean. If installing Mac apps on iPhone is what you meant that’s impossible.
iTunes stores all the IPA files so if the iPhone apps are stored on there you
could sync.

Ugh! That must have been frustrating! Sadly, I wish it were that simple for

my Mac through my Apple TV, so know that the computer has to be open with

I had this same issue, kind of. I had to make sure both computer, and apple tv

Hi Kayaker,

It's on a different floor from our wireless router, so hard-wiring, while not
impossible, wouldn't be easy. thanks for the power cycling suggestion, though.
I was thinking I would give that a go and see what happens.

Hi,

It sounds as if your Apple TV is off your network. Can you see it from either
an iOS device’s airplay option or from the airplay remote speakers option in
iTunes? I would suggest power cycling the Apple TV by just yanking the power
cord from the back and waiting a few seconds before reconnecting. Is hardwiring
it with an ethernet cable an option?

Best,

Yeah, I'm kind of wondering if our Apple TV has bitten the dust. When I later
tried to access Netflix, VO said that Netflix was unavailable. Seems like
something's messed up with the WIFI on the Apple TV.

As far as talking windows installer is concerned, I usually don't recommended.
Also, it would be appreciated if I could be on that what's app group.

RMS DB Value Suggestion in Amadeus when normalizing music files?

2016-03-04 Thread Keith Hinton
Hi list.

I'd like to see what suggestions you folks have, but thought I'd
direct this question to Jonathan Mosen, since he did produce an
awesome Amadeus Pro tutorial back in 2014 which I still enjoy using.
But while I've learned quite a bit, there is one Amadeus situation I
find myself trying to figure out and when you produced the tutorial
Jonathan, you didn't necessarily discuss this particular one.

Firstly, I'd like the list to know that I prefer RMS normalization
over the maximal sample reference value thingy.

What I find myself having to occasionally nnormalize in Amadeus Pro
using RMS is music specificly.
The trouble is I never know necessarily what DB value to enter in to
the normalize effect dialog.

I find that 0 DB in general, is way too loud in most cases using RMS
for either my Blue Yeti microphone, or music files generally speaking.
The only time there is an exception to 0DB being too loud usually is
if I'm normalizing recordings made with my Olympus DM-4 recorder.

If it helps, the instruments in the music that I sometimes find myself
having to normalize somewhat are usually at zero DB to start with thus
zero DB being a bit overkill.

Is there any way to preview the normalize effect in Amadeus Pro?
Jonathan possibly maybe you might know the answer to that question as well.
And just so you know, I do have Amadeus configured the way you had
yours in the tutorial, so that won't be a problem. :)

Thanks for reading, have an awesome Friday or whatever!

Regards,
Keith

Subject: Apple TV weirdness

Hi all,

Still trying to troubleshoot this homesharing thing. I've turned
homesharing on and off on my computer, and when that did nothing, I decided
to try re-initializing it on my Apple TV. Now, my Apple TV won't take my
Apple ID and password. I've entered it three times, so am sure I didn't
enter it incorrectly all those times. Each time Voiceover just says unable
to sign in, and prompts me to change my Apple ID or password at the website.
Has anyone encountered this? Anyone know a solution?

TIA,
Donna

RE: Understanding the VMware concepts with windows

2016-03-04 Thread Simon Fogarty
I wouldn't run windows on anything less than 4 gb ram on a machine these days,
But one of my personal vm's is a server windows 2012R2 but I'm wanting to put
together a 2016 windows server soon also.
So I need a bit more grunt for those.

That's odd, I have a Windows VM on my MBA with eight gig and fusion recommended
I only assign one gigabyte to the VM. That's what I have done I just followed
fusions recommendations, and windows works fine as does Mac OS X. Course, I'm
not running any high-powered apps on the windows, just Internet exploder and a

RE: Understanding the VMware concepts with windows

2016-03-04 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Helga,

No issues,
Depending on what you already have, you can probably already do this?

If you have the mac os x running then you could easily run vm fusion and setup
a windows vm to allow for both OS’s to run at one time.
I use bootcamp for my windows machine currently but I’m looking to upgrade to
better be able to run vm machines.

I would like 16 gb ram so I can easily run 4 machines including my host mac
without issues in general performance.

But I could run a couple of VM
S already on my MBA 11inch which has 8GB ram and 500 gb drive space.

Wht kind of thing are you looking to do with your machine?

No, from my own point of view, you really don't want to try running a vm and
host OS on only 4 gb of memory.

I wouldn't try running windows on less than 4 GB infact I have 4 for each of my
windows 8 vm's but only run one at a time so the host has 4 gb also.

4 gigs sounds typical but you can verify that in OS X by selecting About
this Mac from the Apple menu.

If 4 is enough to run both OS X and Windows, I have no idea. I also have no
idea how many windows can be open at one time but there has to be a limit
somewhere.

someone got it working from ApleVis.
I am not able to make it work,

here’s the actual post which I am referring about,

has anyone here got it working?
I know we need a sound card for this to work.

Possibly you want to try Jonathan rather than Anne as he is the publisher.

I need to get ahold of Ann urgently.

I bought her book through Mosen Consulting, but upon looking at the downloaded
file, I don't know why, but it has a .mp3 extension on the end of it. When I
tried renaming it just to .zip, then unzipping it, it didn't work.

I didn't save the link to the downloaded file, so I need to get ahold of her,
so she can send me another link.

Chris.

Apple is very conservative with their hardware so probably they don’t feel they
can adequately cool or disperse the heat or the battery life isn’t sufficient.

I used to like the older laptops from Apple because they were screwed together
and you could upgrade your own parts. Not that way anymore unfortunately.
