Microsoft 365 can be configured so that only Outlook can access Exchange Online for the e-mail and calendar. In that case, using Apple Mail is not an available option unless the setting is changed by the Microsoft 365 administrator. From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com on behalf of Julie Rattray Date: Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 06:39To: 'Sabahattin Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries Subject: Re: Question about outlookHi, Yes I use outlook as well - because I work at a university and we use office 365 - when we switched to this there was something about it not being an exchange account anymore so Mac mail didn’t work - but can’t remember why - it might be something to do with authentication - and it might work again now I switched a while ago. One thing I would say is that with outlook you have two choices a webmail client or a desktop version - I find the desktop version much easier to use - but it does have a few limitations but these relate to things like creating groups - and this could also be linked to the settings enabled by the employer. So this was a bit of a ramble but really just want to echo that it does work and actually fairly well.  On 19 Jan 2024, at 22:00, Brandon Olivares wrote: Outlook works extremely well on the Mac. Wow, it's amazing that that display has lasted so long with such minimal

Baum/VisioBraille, but I've never had the opportunity to try one out.

It has had the battery replaced twice, and it has been cleaned twice,
but that is all. I think I had the date wrong: I'm reasonably confident
it was 2005 rather than 2004, but I suppose that makes very little
difference to the over-all story. The display sat unused on a desk for a
number of years, until I found a company that could service it. (As you
may recall, Baum ceased operations in 2018 or so, then VisioBraille
purchased the assets and took over the business.) I finally had the
display repaired, and the main problem was indeed the battery. Cells
also needed considerable cleaning. This is not surprising, since I used
that display for much of the writing and editing of my Ph.D. thesis.

If it fails at any time, I won't complain. The record is excellent as it
stands.

Re: Thunderbird for Mac

2023-08-08 Thread 'jason' via MacVisionaries
I would suggest taking this to a Linux-related mailing list such as https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/blinux-listI can comment here on the MacOS terminal, though, which is on topic. If you choose appropriate tools, I think you’ll find the Linux terminal experience better than that of MacOS with VoiceOver in Apple’s Terminal application.Although I find the MacOS terminal somewhat usable, it is also clear that Apple’s Voiceover developers have done little to enhance its accessibility. VO-Shift-F4 is a useful command to move the VoiceOver cursor to the location of the keyboard focus. To move to the top of the current window, use VO-Command-Home (VO-Command-FN-Left-Arrow for MacBook keyboards). You may wish to turn on QuickNav to review the lines of text in the terminal more easily. From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com on behalf of Nebojsa Tasic Date: Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 05:04To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Thunderbird for MacWhat can you say about accessibility in global and command line? Re: Thunderbird for Mac

2023-08-06 Thread 'jason' via MacVisionaries
I’m using Thunderbird 115 under Linux. Its accessibility has clearly been improved over prior versions, and the developers have indicated an ongoing interest in implementing accessibility-related enhancements.I can’t comment on Mac OS-specific accessibility. Mozilla rewrote their Mac accessibility API support recently; perhaps Thunderbird now benefits from this rewrite, as it’s based on a more current version of Mozilla’s Firefox code. From: 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries Date: Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 16:01To: MacVisionaries Subject: Thunderbird for MacAfter installing Thunderbird 115 and clearing up some missteps, I am playing with its navigation commands. Re: Scanning & ocr options?

2023-08-06 Thread 'jason' via MacVisionaries
The option frequently mentioned is ABBYY FineReader for Mac. I haven’t used it, and there may be alternatives now.I have used the Windows version (a former colleague arranged for my then workplace to acquire it, which is how I was introduced to it). The document format recognition is very good, as is the OCR accuracy. I used it mostly to process PDF files containing images of printed pages. From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com on behalf of Traci Duncan Date: Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 15:27To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: Scanning & ocr options?Hi all, I don’t know much about full scanning OCR options. I was just reading a bit about pearl and open book from Jaws. Does the Mac have solutions like that? One main thing I want is the ability to know if my reading material is right side up. I also like the idea of the layout of the page remaining intact. Re: Editing PDF's with Voiceover

2023-08-05 Thread 'jason' via MacVisionaries
Yes, that’s probably a similar issue. Whoever creates the PDF file has to turn on tagged PDF (which, one hopes, will also solve these problems) in whatever tool is used to create the PDF file. Some tools don’t support it.The real solution is to distribute in a format other than PDF, such as HTML, alongside the PDF file. From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com on behalf of Jessica Moss Date: Friday, August 4, 2023 at 18:17To: 'Jim Fettgather' via MacVisionaries Subject: Re: Editing PDF's with VoiceoverOk, so would the same apply to a privacy policy which is supposed to state the following “to fight the funding of terrorists” but the word “fight” looks like “y(umlaut symbol)ght?
