Yes I like this strategy. The only reason I don't employ it is that I find I'm
a bit pushed for space on the Macbook Air, and the VM files can get pretty
large. For those without that problem, it's a great idea.

I use Time Machine to back up my virtual machines, but not from the active

what VMWare recommends and it is a very good idea, because you don’t want Time
Machine to back up a machine that is being used; you will end up with ruined
backups, and waste a lot of disk space on your Time Capsule.

The idea is to have a separate folder which Time Machine does back up, which I
will remember to copy my healthy virtual machines into, when they are in a
known-good condition. In my experience, this actually works more reliably than
snapshots. I have the active folder on my SSD, for speed, and the snapshots on
my hard disk, which Time Machine will take a copy of.

The drawback of this approach is that one is strongly incentivized to keep
changes to a minimum, and thus VMs don’t grow organically, but are
frustratingly lean and minimal. There’s a cost to everything. :)

when I get that sound that indicates a wrong or dead keystroke, and Fusion
doesn't seem to respond, I switch to full screen mode with command control F
and that usually shakes things up and gets things working again. Also,
sometimes I VO end (function+right arrow) and then hit tab a few times until my
VM screen reader (JAWS) responds.
Usually though, the best fix is to switch screen modes with command control F.
Whether it goes to full screen mode or single screen mode doesn’t matter to the
way the VM operates, but it gets the keystroke problem fixed.

anyone else has noticed a problem if you are running Windows 7 with a screen

As an example, if I bring up blind adrenaline’s web site to play a card game,

Hi all. I’ve been playing MUDs for a while now, and really would like to run
vmware less and less. So, I want an accessible MUD client, that is updated
since 2012 or so, that works with voiceover. It could either send text to Apple
tts, or to voiceover directly with apple scripts. Is that too much to ask for?
I’d also like trigger support, for sound packs.

windows VM that a certain module “VMMon” can’t be found, and some other related
errors. I suppose I have to upgrade to the latest fusion version, anyone
verify that V5 won’t work with Yosemite?

I’m not too clear on your question, but you do this reformat from the recovery
partition. To get there, you restart your computer, and when you hear the chime
sound, immediately press and hold Command + R for about ten seconds. Wait
another 20 seconds or so and then turn on VO with command F5.
You’ll hear voice Fred. select and run disk utilities from the table.
Here’s where you reformat the disk. It’s important to select the right disk
from the table. you want to highlight the disk that says Mac HD. From there,
you navigate to and press the erase button I think ( I’m going from memory
here). you should get options to set the kind of formatting, and you’ll want to
select mac journaled. Sorry Wayne, I’m going from memory, so I’m not being
exact here. You should be careful and don’t accept my word without doing some
investigating for yourself.
At least, this will get you to the disk utilities app in the recovery partition
and selecting the right disk to reformat.

Good luck

Hi,

With the computer connected via your ethernet cable, turn off the WiFi
adaptor on your Mac. Go back into Airport Utility and see if it's visible.
If not, check in the "Other BaseStations" menu to the right of the Networks
Scroll area and make sure that Ethernet is checked, then look again to
determine if the router shows up.

Did you have your AppleID in the Back To My Mac section of the BaseStation
pane? If so, you could attempt to connect using the Other BaseStations menu
located just after the Networks Scroll area. If it doesn't show up there,
then you probably didn't enter the AppleID info for that resource.

 Hi,

It could have something to do with your network being hidden. That
shouldn't matter, but it's a possibility. For now, try connecting to it
manually. When in Network, System Preferences, determine the IP address of
your Airport. If it's not easily visible on the main page of your Network
pane, press on the Advanced button and then select the TCP/IP tab. The
router's IP will be listed there. It is usually 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.1.1.
When in Airport Utility,, press cmd-shift-o which allows you to access
Airports directly. You'll likely need to enter your setup password as well.
If this lets you in, then good. If not, I'll have to think harder. In
either case, it sounds like a bug report to Apple is necessary.

believe that we all need to become more pro-active and make our voices heard

Hello I have just found out the reason for my lag when I installed this os I
had file vault incrypt my files but I did not know this at the time and now
it has finished there is no lag to talk of so check in the background to see
if file vault is incrypting hope this helps

The lag seems random. I've heard of 4GB ram machines running fine, while
newer ones with more ram have the lag. I've heard that Nuance voices cause
the problem, and that they don't. I've been told a clean install made things
worse, or a bit better. All I can say is: if you have this problem, report
it to Apple along with the specifics of your machine. Hopefully they can pin
it down that way.

So far observing posts on list the people who have reported lag and specs

Then goto users groups and login items and interact. Goto Login and stop

Subject: anyone know about problems with iBooks in IOS 8?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about bugs with the latest iBooks?
I upgraded to IOS 8 last night, and installed the update to iBooks. Now, I
can see the publisher's blurb for my books when I click on the Purchased
Tab, but that's all I can see. When I switch to my books, the list is
empty, despite the fact that I have several downloaded. It doesn't matter
whether I select My Bookshelf, Titles, or Authors, I see nothing. I had my
sighted husband look at my phone, and he confirmed that the books are not
showing up on the screen at all. Anyone else had this issue?
Thanks,
Donna

Hello,

The Humanware Companion is not compatible with the Mac OS environment. Using
the Bookshare Reader that was just recently suggested would be the best
method to read a book. I usually read my books either on my iPhone through
Voice Dream reader or on either my Victor Reader Stream NG or my PlexTalk
Pocket. Both of these devices have way better battery life than my iPhone.

You are discussing book share and that was one of my questions. Although I
download books to my phone I also download books from Book share to my
stream. I wrote humanware if the companion was compatible to the Mac. To
date I have not heard back. Hearing what you are saying I guess they are
not.

www.vmware.com/go/tryfusion will download Fusion directly without going to the
website first. Once downloaded open the dmg then copy the only file in there to
the Applications folder. Open the file from the Applications folder and follow
the instructions. Since you don't have a license for 7 you may wish to try it
out at no charge for 30 days. So select the appropriate radio button, click
continue button, enter the email address (not sure why they want this as you
receive no communication whatsoever), click continue button then click done
button.

updated all the time when its users report a problem and also you can go to

Mmm, that's great in theory, but Windows isn't built for access through APIs
in the same way that OS X and Linux are yet, so you inevitably need one of
the commercial screen readers, for some purpose. So you end up installing
the one screen reader that does everything, either JAWS or Window-Eyes (I'm
fortunate enough to own both).

I hope that Microsoft advances the state of play here, because I really do
want to see a Windows world devoid of the requirement for external screen
reading software. But yeah, you know, that's kind of not going to happen
while Microsoft is studiously avoiding getting hit by sueballs, to our
exclusion.

I have another idea, but I don't know if you can do it. Apple knows who owns
that iPhone because of serial numbers etc. If you can go into an Apple Store
and prove who you are with your ID, do you think they could erase the thing
over for you so you could start over?

to find an option to use any gps apps other than google maps, which I don't
have, and maps, which I almost never use, and would like to use scout maps,
which I was under the impression I would be able to, sense the description
says it would work with your choice of 3rd-party apps, then named about a
ton of them. Am I missing something here?
I can't seem to find a help file any place, and can't find anything in the
settings that says anything about which gps apps to use, so I'm really
stumpt here.

in reading Tim Sniffen's book on mastering the Mac, I came across the term
Loc dots, which evidently are unobtrusive tactile markers that can be placed
on the keyboard to augment the tiny markers on the F and J keys.

Currently I use the tinniest bump dots I can find and they still are pretty
big, and probably put pressure on the closed screen of my MBA. If there's a
better option, such as these loc dots, I'd like to try them out.
Does anyone know what these actually are, and where they can be had?

I'ave had great lic with that using Private Internet Access. Even better,
you can give your computer an IP address from say the UK, and watch BBC live
streaming programming, and have access to their audio description content.

Hi there,

I use a VPN called Private Internet Access:

there is no connection logging, and so far I've gotten very connection
speeds when I've used it.

Hi, Traci,

I have never used Express-VPN, but I have tried out and used others.

For two years or so, I used Strong VPN and it worked flawlessly. I only
used it with my iPhone, not with my PC or Mac. The only time it went down
was when Hurricane Sandy hit NYC, but they were only offline for about 24
hours. The company charges around $57 per year or so.

Another VPN service I have used, which worked extremely well for me was
HotSpot Shield from AnchorFree. I found this in the Apple store. I have
never incurred any charges with them, but I haven't ever used the service
for more than just a few minutes at a time. I think (though I am not sure)
that you pay something if you use them on a regular basis. You'll need to
check that out.

You may be wondering why, if both of these services work so well, I used
the past tense when describing my experiences with them. The answer is
simple. A close friend set up a very good and reliable VPN server, so I use
it now. Nevertheless, I can truthfully say that both Strong VPN and HotSpot
Shield did an excellent job of meeting my needs.

All the best from Austria,

No, none of the Mac Laptop models have a built-in NumPad. There's just not

Hi there
You may, maybe, have done what I almost did. When I did the update,
VoiceOver came on, but then it wouldn't talk any more after it said the
welcome message. However, I got desperate and turned VoiceOver off and back
on; that was when I discovered that I was in the setup section. So I had to
VO and right arrow to the place to hear the percentage of that. Once it got
past the setup, and that took about five minutes, then my computer worked
fine.

However, guys, my Focus 14 still won't pair with my Mac, even after the
update. I am writing this on my Braille Edge 40 which still works with my
computer just fine. Now I am going to have to call Apple and find out if
this update was supposed to fix this thing.

It's a boot manager, so it does not do anything by itself once installed. It
kicks in when you boot your Mac; see Google for details on the setup.

As to multiple operating systems, I don't think you can. Consider a
virtualization program like Virtual Box or VMWare Fusion for that instead.

Hi,

Do not waste a gray hair on worrying if the keyboard will wear out. Your SSD
will die before that happens.

In regards to the logitech K750, that is NOT a bluetooth keyboard. It uses a
proprietary USB dongle and requires a free USB port. Not to mention, the
reviews of that model are horrid on Amazon.

I find there is a huge void of full sized bluetooth keyboards and stand
alone bluetooth number pads out there. I have tried the belkin number pad
sold at the Apple store and it is a piece of junk. Has major pairing issues
and poor bluetooth connectivity in general. I've tested it across five
different Macs.

I've simply gone to a wired USB full sized keyboard when I need it.

Subject: Recommendations For BT Keyboard For Mac Air With Page Up/Down &
Home/End Keys

Hello All,

I am seeking recommendations for a BT keyboard for my Mac Air that has a
page up/down and home/end keys. I am concerned with the amount of use of the
VO keys, command key, and FN key combinations with the arrow keys that in
the future they will wear out. It would be nice to have full navigation with
Page Up/Down and navigation with the Home/End keys, as one has on a full
keyboard on the PC side. I do a tremendous amount of word processing and I
need to edit my work before sending in the final copy to my job site.
Recently, the Logitech 760 information has been posted to this list, but I
could not ascertain if there were the keys listed above on this keyboard.
Any assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Eileen Î

VLC can play lots of things that iTunes can't. If you want to listen to BBC
stations on your iPhone, you're best using an app like Ootunes or Tunein.

Hey Wayne,

Thanks I am going to try this tomorrow. Only problem has does one hold down
those keys as it seems like it will take two hands to do so, and my power
button is on the back of my iMac.

On another hilarious mail note in mac mail I just got a test email I sent to
my gmail from my gmail it only took 8 hours to show up in my inbox. So there
are definitely still some serious gmail issues in mac mail.

have a case with any cool features like a rechargeable battery or anything
else? Would love to get a case that does just more than protect the phone.

Hello all!

I hope I can help you with this, here you have a very easy way to create a
Bootable drive for Mavericks. Just, be sure to do exactly as it is and you will
be amazed on how nice it is.

1. Download the installer for the OS and when prompted to install, just cancel
the process. The installer will be an App on your Apps folder.

2. Rename the app exactly as:

IM.app

See that the name before the extension is in Capital letters.

3. Take a flash drive (8 GB minimum)and with Disk Utility, erase it and leave
it as Untitled. Erase the name during the formatting process, or just do so
with enter on it when you see it on your desktop. Make sure it is totally
erased, no data at all.

4. Go to Terminal inside your Utilities folder, open it and paste the following
command, making sure that there are not blanck lines or spaces in what you
select to copy.

Start of command*

sudo /Applications/IM.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume
/Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/IM.app --nointeraction

End of command*

5. Write your password if you are asked to enter it, and the creation process
will start. VoiceOver will read some things during it, and when it is finished,
just close Terminal.

6. You will see that now your Flash drive will be named as Maverick installer

Yes. To create a virtual machine with Vmware fusion,or to bootcamp your hard

For those of you who might be using a 5S, does your finger get recognised
all the time? The second time running within a week since I had the I phone,
my finger does not get recognised. Is this happening to anyone else? I have
deleted my finger scan twice. Then re added it and again after a few days it
can't recognise my finger. If it's only me then I'll contact apple.

Thank you very much.

Hi Shawn,

thanks again for your reply. I thought it might be no problem as well. But
it seems to be. There's no button for compact voice in VoiceOver preferences

know the answer. Would be interesting to hear someone to this question who
has an iPad. In VO settings all buttons for hq voices are gray.

All the best

I have a charger that I bought from Apple that works fine for USB devices. I
charge my headphones with it, and it works just fine. Some people think it's
too big, but I got it because it has more power than some up.

There is a similar issue with the UK British male voice, it now sounds a
little wobbly, that's the best way I can explain it, even now the high
quality voice is down the sound is less solid and refined than it used to
be.

Hi folks.

With a developer account, I've had time to playaround with iOS 7 on my
iPhone 4S over a month now.
After updating to iOS 7, I found that the norwegian voice have changed, and
to a new and quite unusable one.

I immediatly reached out to the accessibility team at apple to report this
mistake, and they said they couldn't help with unreleased software, so they
"forwarded" me to the bug reporting tool on the developer page, wich is not
that VoiceOver friendly.

I managed to report a bug regarding the voice, and nothing have happened
since.

Yesterday, when I confirmed that the update was available, I sendt away a
mail again to the accessibility team regarding this, and after a few mails,
they said they forwarded my request to get back the old voice to the speech
team.

Since norwegians are few, I encourage norwegian VO-users to report the voice
issue to apple.

Also I was able to speak about the problem in the media.

You can read the article here:

RE: vm and super duper

2013-09-16 Thread wayne17a
Thanks phil that is what I thought but I did not see any
harm in asking so again thanks

Wayne, superDuper will, as you know, make a clone copy of your Mac HD, which
includes your VMWare installation and all your VM's. Now, you can
selectively copy back any file off your superDuper created clone onto your
system, and that includes your windows VM. You simply open the clone whether
it be a bootable image or a sparse bundle doesn't matter, you just mount the
image and browse for the files you want.

As long as the new VMWare version is backward compatible with previous
versions, and I am sure that it is, you can copyback your .vmware file and
open it in fusion 6.

P.S. please verify anything I say before acting on it, this is just my best
guess.

Hi,

I use dashboard multiple times a day. I find it to be the easiest way to
quickly access sports scores and the local weather on the Mac. I even found
nice metronome widget.
