RE: From iDisk to SkyDrive

2012-05-24 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Klifton,

I have 25GB of disk space on my Sky Drive but new users, I believe, will
only have 7GB.

Now, as for opening a document.

1.
Open your iOS SkyDrive App.

Navigate until you find a document and double-tap to open it.

At this point, you can read the document. In the reading mode, there are no
controls on the display.

To show app controls both at the top and the bottom of the display,
including the option to go back and to open the document in another app
through which you may edit the document, simply double-tap the center of the
screen. Please note that the controls will remain visible or actionable for
about 2 seconds during which time, if no action is taken, they will once
again, disappear.

Keep in mind that if you want to edit a document, then you must first have
an app on the iOS device capable of editing the document; in my case, for
example, Pages or ePrint.

Hi,

I think pricing is one small difference.

Tech News Today talked about these services a few weeks back, but of
course they were not concerned with usability from the blind user
perspective.

I use DropBox exclusively, and most heavily on the windows side, and
find it suits my needs.

Interesting question, though. It would help to know what other viable
options exist.

As far as sharing goes here are the steps.

1. Put a file in public folder.

3. Once mail is sent, the person who receives file gets an notification.

4. Person gets directed to a link and before they open a link, they

then no password is needed.

1. I thought you could put your documents in the Cloud.

2. Are you sure that Apple will not replace I disk with something else

Hello Everyone,

I am cross posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries

With the end of iDisk, Apple's cloud storage system that came into
being during the Mobile Me era, slated for June 30, 2012, I've been
searching for another cloud storage system that works equally well
with iOS devices, Macs, and Windows PCs.

I am delighted to report that Microsoft's SkyDrive is now completely
VoiceOver accessible and allows access to the SkyDrive directly from
Finder in OS X and from Explorer in Windows 7. The iOS app is
VoiceOver accessible, simple, and easy to use.

Microsoft SkyDrive offers 7GB of free storage space, 2GB more than
does Apple's iCloud.

To those who may not know, iCloud, in its current implementation, does

not allow for non-iWork documents and/or non Apple file syncing nor
does it allow for direct access in Windows Explorer. In short,
iCloud, unlike iDisk, is not meant to be used as a remote hard drive
to which you may place any kind of file.

To get SkyDrive on the computer platform of your choice, you will need

to download a free Microsoft utility that simply configures your
chosen system to see SkyDrive; it does not add any overhead to your
device unlike other free cloud storage options.

To get started, visit the app store on your iOS device and type in
SkyDrive or, from your favorite web browser in the OS of your choice,
go to http://skydrive.live.com

If you don't already have a Windows ID, you will need to create one.

Enjoy,

Mark

RE: From iDisk to SkyDrive

2012-05-23 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Kawal,

I cannot speak as to the future plans of Apple. I can only address what is
currently stated by them said statement indicating that iDisk will be
deactivated on June 30, 2012.

One can certainly sync iWork and/or iWork compatible documents to iCloud but
iCloud functionality differs greatly from an OS independent remote storage
medium.

Hello Mark.

Thanks for your informative message.

I have the following questions.

1. I thought you could put your documents in the Cloud.

2. Are you sure that Apple will not replace I disk with something else as I
understood they would be launching I disk again under a new form as Apple
were not sure what they would do with I disk.

Just my reflections.

Kawal.

Re: From iDisk to SkyDrive

2012-05-22 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi Mark,

Thanks for this useful info. One minor correction with respect to the storage
capabilities within iCloud. There are definitely ways of storing non-iWork and
non-Apple files within your iCloud storage space. In fact, these files will
also sync to your other iCloud synced MacOS machines. Not perfect nor exactly
the same as iDisk storage but useful just the same.

Later...
