Problem with keyboard shortcut on latest Monterey
Hello, I recently upgraded my 2018 iMac to Monterey 12.4. Since then I have suffered from VO constantly saying “accessibility shortcut has keyboard focus” followed by Universal Access Control and a list of possible accessibility options. As you can imagine this is very disruptive! After trying various keyboards I found that the problem only happened if I used a keyboard with the numeric keypad and then only if I pressed the 4 key on the numeric keypad which I do often when using the numeric keypad commander. I normally use the numeric keypad commander all the time. I then looked at my keyboard shortcuts and found that the shortcut for “show accessibility controls” is 4 and that this is unticked by default. Pressing the 4 key on the normal keyboard does not cause this problem but pressing 4 on the numeric keypad does cause the problem. As a temporary fix I changed the keyboard shortcut for “show accessibility controls" to F16 and the problem goes away provided that I do not press F16. This looks like 2 bugs in Monterey 12.4 which could seriously impact VO users who use the numeric keypad commander. The first bug is that the 4 key should have no effect if that option is unticked as a keyboard shortcut and the second bug is that pressing the 4 key on the numeric keypad while using the numeric keyboard commander should not be considered as a keyboard shortcut. Have any other listers encountered this problem? Best regards … Paul Hopewell -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list. You are better off using VO + left/right arrow keys when navigating the Mail app window. When in the mailbox folder list view, press VO + Left-arrow key twice to move to the Mailbox list. - Brad - On Nov 5, 2020, at 11:22, 'Kliph' via MacVisionaries wrote: > You could try using the tab key. Hi, the app is called foobar2000. Yes it has the ellipsis at the end of the name. Add folder ellipsis. I've tried control+shift+f, but that doesn't seem to work. Re: Voiceover keyboard shortcut switching languages
Hello Traci, I don’t really understand your problem with switching languages. I always leave the voice rotor on Default Voice, so I just have to do VO-Cmd-Down Arrow to change languages. However, you could create an activity for any other language which would also allow you to change the Braille settings. You could then just switch activities. The command to open the Activity Chooser is VO-x and VO-X-X takes you to the previous activity. Voiceover keyboard shortcut switching languages
Hi all, Is there a keyboard shortcut to switch between 2 languages? I know of the rotor, but sometimes it’s hard to understand the foreign language speak the rotor settings. I prefer it on iOs where the system voice, in my case English, speaks while I go through the rotor. Hi, As mentioned, option-f12 or option-fn-f12 but it will also work with f11 or f10. If none of those work, try restarting your Mac. I'm going to hazzard a guess, and presume there's a view menu, and a sort by option, so ought to be a "by file size element in there. Re: disc keyboard shortcut
You do know you can sort any folder by size in Finder don’t you? I use List view, and these instructions work for me, you may have to modify them if you prefer a different view. You can press command-2 to get into list view. Interact with any list of files or folders, res vo-shift-\, VO to where it says size, press VO-space, then VO-shift-\ again. You may well be able to combine this with the find suggestion to get even better results. Re: disc keyboard shortcut
Not that I know of, but a smart folder or search will do the job quite nicely. Google has tons of such tutorials, but the basic idea is to go to Finder, hit cmd-f, and set your criteria. You want to search your eternal drive only; show files larger than some certain size (you'll need to go into the "More Options" menu in the menu button showing the different search types); and off you go. If you need specific help, let us know, and again, Google will have tons of articles on the subject. > On Mar 15, 2015, at 6:18 PM, jeffrey greene wrote: > > Hi, I have a second hard drive in my mac full of audio books. Hi, I have a second hard drive in my mac full of audio books. I have been converting some of them to smaller mp3 files to save space. What I was wondering is there a keyboard shortcut or an app in utilities that would show me the biggest files on this second hdd? I downloaded an app from the app store but apparently after you scan the hard drive it shows a visual map that’s of no use to me. Hi there Another way is to get an Apple script file. I have one that Alex gave me, and I can now press the right option key and the letter t to hear date and time. You have to tell VoiceOver to use Apple scripts in the VoiceOver utility for it to work. Gigi > On Mar 2, 2015, at 7:47 AM, David Taylor wrote: > > You don’t need to create it. You don’t need to create it. Simply make sure that keyboard commander is turned on and go. To do this, press VO-F8 to get to VO utility, go down to commanders in the categories, then selected keyboard commander in the tabs and vo across until you hear the option to turn it on, and decide which option key you wish to use. Re: keyboard shortcut to expand thread in messages table in mail
Yes, I get the same thing, Andrew. Thanks Alex and Andrew for letting me know you are not having this problem. Everything I tried to get the arrow keys to begin working on threads would not work, not even rebooting my computer. Then suddenly for no reason that I cannot figure out, the arrow keys started working to expand and collapse the threads. :) Christina > On Oct 23, 2014, at 1:57 PM, Andrew Lamanche wrote: > > The only thing that baffles me is that voiceover announces “conversation > collapsed” when in fact there is no more than one message in the thread. Re: keyboard shortcut to expand thread in messages table in mail
Hello, I’ve just upgraded to Yosemite on late 2010 Macbook air with 4GB RAM only. I’m pleased to say that since I had upgraded a few hours ago, I had no trouble. Specifically to your problem, I still am able to use right and left arrow keys to expand and collapse conversations in Mail. I interact with the message area and then find the subject of each conversation, and I am able to collapse or expand the threads successfully with arrow keys. The only thing that baffles me is that voiceover announces “conversation collapsed” when in fact there is no more than one message in the thread. I don’t quite understand why it does so. Re: keyboard shortcut to expand thread in messages table in mail
I haven't seen this at all. Maybe try the old trick used when the arrows would stop working? That is, turn VO off while focused on a conversation, then hit right arrow twice, then turn VO back on. That always clears up the problem for me. > On Oct 23, 2014, at 12:50 PM, Christina C. wrote: > > Well, I finally remembered it but darn, it does not work the way I would like > it to. Lookie there! Thanks! I took away the one I created and will use the natural shortcut. :) So is there one for show in iTunes store and I'm missing it? Ok I'm only guessing but that might be because you've set up your own! But in the file menu do you not have anything written! Mine clearly says command+shift+r! Did you say command-shift-r? That isn't doing anything for me. I'm going to try the dash thing. Right now I have a shortcut for the make rinsable script, but I need to hit go-m first. Re: Created keyboard shortcut in iTunes
Yes, I love that trick. I usually use ctrl-shift, since mac apps rarely use control for anything, and more rarely still do they use control and shift. I shy away from just control because it has a lot of uses in text documents (ctrl-t to transpose, ctrl-d, ctrl-a, and more). I know iTunes has no documents as such, but I like to organize my commands so that any custom ones will have the same modifiers if I can help it. Also, if you want to add a command in a submenu (as often happens in the Type2Phone app), separate the menu names with -> (dash greater than) and no spaces. Re: Created keyboard shortcut in iTunes
Ok sorry about this but why do you not use command+shift+r to show in finder! Or does that command show up in your menus! I'm using the latest iTunes and it still show's up in mine! Created keyboard shortcut in iTunes
Hello all, I find myself using the menu command "Show in Finder" often. I thought I'd try to make a keyboard shortcut to it, and success, works like a charm. I went to system pref, keyboard, keyboard shortcuts, then found applications/iTunes. When you add a new shortcut for a menu command, you need to make sure you write the menu command exactly how it is written. Show in Finder, capitalize the S & F. I chose control-s. I tested it out with music & tones, worked great! :) If I can think of another free command, I might do the same for show in iTunes store. Re: Keyboard shortcut For Adjusting Zoom Picture size (when using picture in picture zooming) in 10.8 Mountain Lion?
Ok. So today, I've figured out the shortcuts. These will not work when VoiceOver is turned on, as control+option is bonded to that, but without VO, and just zoom, Control+Option left, right or up and down arrow will move the zoomed picture, and adding shift to this, changes the window size. up/down changes size up and down, and left/right changes size across. I don't know why these commands work, but aren't listed in the zoom app. but they do work. Have fun!, and I hope others enjoy this as much as I do. I didn't have VO running at the time. So, I don't think Control+ option could be functioning in that capacity. Egun On, Lagunak! Basque for G'day, Mates Louie P. Re: Keyboard shortcut For Adjusting Zoom Picture size (when using picture in picture zooming) in 10.8 Mountain Lion?
could you be refering to the VO+Grave accent key for moving, and VO+shift+grave accent for resizing windows? I might have those two mixed up, try them out in keyboard help to hear which does what. One will move a window, while the other will resize a window. I forgot to say that you can also make zoom to follow keyboard focus from the preferences pane, it makes it easier if you don't use the mouse to much. Hello. To activate it, you use CMD+option+8. To increase it, CMD+Option+0, and to reduce it, go with CMD+option+minus - Hope it helps! Keyboard shortcut For Adjusting Zoom Picture size (when using picture in picture zooming) in 10.8 Mountain Lion?
I was playing around and found myself adjusting the picture size, and even moving the picture with the keyboard. Hey, I just deleted the program and reinstalled it so now it is working fine. Re: Night Owl Twitter Client Keyboard Shortcut Help
I believe the dev changed it in the latest update, unless I some how did something I am not aware of. For example it used to be to compose a new tweet you just hit command N now it is command capital N, so if you hit command N with the caps lock off nothing will happen even if you try command shift N nothing happens you have to have caps lock on and hit command N to compose the tweet. Maybe I did something by accident as I figured the boards would be all over this change. Any help is greatly appreciated On Mar 26, 6:54 pm, Brian Fischler wrote: > Hey all, > > Sorry if this has been covered. Re: Night Owl Twitter Client Keyboard Shortcut Help
Do you mean it misteriously changed your keyboard commands, or do you mean the devs took it upon themselves to change the keystrokes? God I hoep the former! BTW, just FYI, it's... capital Y, o, r, u, Capital F, u, k, u, r, o, u. YoruFukurou. It's Japanese for Night Owl, in case anyone wonders where that reference comes from. Re: keyboard shortcut
iCloud is where I'm loving notes. It is great to jot down something on any device and it magically appears on the other. In VO commanders, if you want a capitol letter for a command, just hold down shift with the letter. So I guess it is still single key navigation, but with a capitol. :) Sent by Macbook Air Mail On Oct 29, 2012, at 4:34 PM, Alex Hall wrote: > You understand it correctly, Harry. You understand it correctly, Harry. Iona, Notes is good for quickly jotting osmething down, but where it really shines is iCloud. Any notes you make on any device, be it your iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Mac, will sync to all your other devices. Textedit is more powerful than Notes, but it won't sync like that. Re: keyboard shortcut
Hi, is there an advantage to using Notes instead of TextEdit? It seems like TextEdit would do the same thing, but maybe that 's just me? You can set different key combinations by using System Preferences under Keyboard and Shortcuts, I think it is. The Voiceover Commanders are for commands that would only function while VoiceOver is running, or at least that is the way I understand it. HOpe this helps. Re: keyboard shortcut
I use ctrl-shift-n, since most keyboard shortcuts in the mac tend to use command and option before control. Go to system preferences, keyboard, keyboard shortcuts tab, select mission control from the first table, then go to the second and find the item called "show notification center". Press enter, type the shortcut you want, then stop interacting and close system preferences. Hi, go into system preferences/keyboard. Now select the keyboard shortcuts tab. In the first table you come to select spotlight. In the 2nd table you can change the shortcut from the default command spacebar to another command of your choosing. hth Ricardo Walker rica...@appletothecore.info Twitter:@apple2thecore www.appletothecore.info On Aug 12, 2012, at 1:23 PM, Andrew Lamanche wrote: > I know but I can't use command+spacebar because I've assigned it to change my > keyboard layouts into other languages which is very important to me. > > Any other suggestions? > > Andrew > On 12 Aug 2012, at 16:40, Ricardo Walker wrote: > >> Hi, >> >> What about command spacebar? Hi Ezzie and Others, The usual reason that a drive fails to eject is that it is still in use. Re: Looking for keyboard shortcut for accessing previous versions in textedit
Hi. There is a versions menu button right beside the text area. That should be what you're looking for. HTH. Re: Spaces keyboard shortcut disabling
Paul, DOH! For the life of me I can't figure out why I missed that in the second scroll area. Must have been because I had not yet partaken of the bean. Git it now and it seems to be working fine. I like the idea of disabling it in system preferences rather than in Fusion preferences, as Spaces is broken and until they fix it I am boycotting them. Spaces that is. Anyway, thanks for the nudge. Re: Spaces keyboard shortcut disabling
Hi Keith! I'm not on Lion! But a place to look is under your keyboard shortcuts table in the keyboard button in system prefs! There is a lot of categories and keyboard shortcuts in that table! And you should be able to uncheck the keystroke or even put a dash instead of the key combination that is already there! Somewhere Esther had given a way to disable the shortcut strokes to help with the f10 f11 and a couple of others, to help with windows and I should imagine the same might apply here! At the time Esther suggested disabling those keys for normal vo use as well because if a vo user hit them by mistake it was annoying! And disabling them stopped that and freed them up for windows use! hth Colin On 27 Aug 2011, at 16:40, Keith Watson wrote: > Hi, > > In lion they have added the ability to switch spaces by using the control > left and right arrows.
