MI-L Sq Ft Variables

2003-05-29 Thread Eric Durrance
I have a client who needs Square Feet of retail Properties by block group
and Square feet Industrial Properties by
block group.

He has maps of these variables, looks like they were done in Arc and
he believed it was Claritas data. I checked with them and they don't offer
it. He only needs these two variables and only for Florida.

Any idea if this exists and at what cost?

MI-L Splitting Objects

2003-05-29 Thread Hankins, Mike
Hello all,
I am having a problem splitting objects. Ever since my company
upgraded to MI 7.0, I have been getting an error All or part of Object(s)
invalid. Results may be incorrect. Operation cancelled. I do not get
this error every time I split or combine. I have checked the regions,
cleaned the tables, packed the tables before splitting. These tables
are created by combining GDT zip code files and certain city or township
files from StreetInfo. The table runs clean when I use the check region
function, and then I try to split objects using the objectsplit function.
I run into problems. I was able to create my tables using objectssplit in
6.5 (here, I would have objects just disappear. I would then have to copy
in a larger region, and erase the overlapped areas and repopulate the data
for that object. But the table would finish and not cancel all of the
changes).
I have to ''work the tables so much more in 7.0, adding hours to my
development time. The biggest state I have is Illinois and I had to revert
back to 6.5 to get my project accomplished because MI 7.0 would not do it.
Has anyone else ran into object processing problems? The majority of the
work I do is combining and splitting objects. I use MI for a very limited
purpose and do not have the expertise that most of you possess. But I have
been splitting and combining very detailed files for several years and I am
unimpressed, no, disgusted with 7.0. The object processing was supposed to
be improved for 7.0. I am ready to return to 6.5 and throw 7.0 in the
trash. I am running MI 7.0 release build 26 on windows NT.

Thank you.

MI-L What is Syntax for a Spatial Query?

2003-05-29 Thread Phillips, Frank
Howdy folks. I'm a MapInfo beginner (an ESRI convert after 10 years), and I
have a question about how to structure a spatial query in MI7. In ArcView
there is a wizard for this type of thing...something the MI folks might want
to consider copying.

Anyhoo, let's assume I have a polygon file and a point file. Now let's
assume I've selected only a portion of the polygon records, and I want to
then select all of the points that are contained in (or intersect) those
selected polygon records. Can anyone provide some help as to how to
structure my SQL Query to do this?

Many thanks in advance for your kind assistance.

RE: MI-L Exporting mapinfo table such that m$ excel ca

2003-05-29 Thread Phillips, Frank

can anyone tell me whats the easiest and most effective ways to export a
mapinfo table such that it can be manipulated in m$ excel??? what should we
save the mapinfo table file as such that we can open it up in m$excel???

Michelle,

I'm just a beginner at MapInfo (I'm an ESRI veteran), but I do know a bit
about how Excel deals with tables. Aside from using DDE (I think it's
called poke) to transfer the table, you can manually export the table as a
DBF or as a comma delimited file (CSV) and then open that file in Excel.
The one caveat about using a comma separated file is that it will drop
leading zeroes in your data (if you have any), and if your data contains any
commas then Excel will read up the file incorrectly. This is the reason I
always export a DBF from MapInfo (or ArcView) and then open it in Excel.

There's one other caveat for DBF, though. When Excel opens a DBF, it makes
a mental note about the number of rows and columns in the DBF, and if you
work in that same DBF and add or delete any rows or columns and then
re-save, it will act like it's saving correctly, but will actually keep the
number of rows and columns the same. For this reason, I use the workaround
of first opening the DBF, then copy/paste into a virgin Excel sheet for
working and saving. Then I go and delete the DBF I exported.

Hope this helps.

RE: MI-L Population Density

2003-05-29 Thread Warren Vick, Europa Technologies Ltd.
Hello David,

I submitted a raster population map of the world to the Directions Magazine
site a few years ago. Of course the population figures will not be
up-to-date not but it might be useful for general densities. You can
download it from:

 http://www.directionsmag.com/files/index.php/view/409
http://www.directionsmag.com/files/index.php/view/409

As for using raster maps you may find on the web, it's simply a case of
registering them correctly. You need the projection of the map and some
reference points (not necessarily the corners) with known units.

For your airports, you need to use Table Create Points... but they need
to be in a format that is usable - I would guess you're working in degrees
in which case you would need the coordinate in decimal degrees stored in
float fields. You may need to work on your data a little if your coordinates
are in degrees/minutes/seconds, etc. If you send me, or post to the list, a
few records, I should be able to tell you what you need to do.

RE: MI-L Exporting mapinfo table such that m$ excel ca

2003-05-29 Thread Darrin Clement
You can just export it as type dbf but for the name,
overwrite the .dbf extension with .xls . Excel will then
open it fine, but you will have to resave it in Excel as a
true excel file if you want to save any special formatting.

MI-L Distribution of MapX for Oracle Spatial support

2003-05-29 Thread Chris Prescott
Hi,

I've developed a MapX 4.5 application and have generated an InstalledShield
setup.exe to install this application and MapX on to different computers.
The application is developed in MS Access 97 using MapX Version 4.51.106 and
accessing Oracle Spatial 8.1.7 data. The application loads Oracle Spatial
tables using LayerInfo.

On the development computer, with Oracle Server installed, Oracle Spatial
tables are loaded and displayed correctly in both the application and the
GeosetManager. However on our test computer (and others) where the
application and MapX has been installed from the setup.exe, and Oracle
Client is installed, the Oracle Spatial tables will not load.

The application works correctly on non-development computers, except when
trying to load the Oracle Spatial tables (it crashes). The Tab files that I
am selecting were created by MapInfo Pro, are cached and has had the
password added to them. MapInfo Pro can open and display the Oracle tables
correctly, but the same tables opening in MapX fail. There are no problems
when running with normal MapInfo tables.

In our installation for MapX we have included the mioci.dll, mirdb.dll,
mirdbspatialres.dll odbc32.dll as is stated in the MapX manual.

When we run the GeosetManager on the test machine and try to load an Oracle
Spatial table from the tab file, we get the following error:

'Database Drivers could not be loaded.'

MapInfo Pro will open the same Tab file correctly.

Are there any other files that are required for Oracle Spatial support when
distributing a MapX application? If not any clues as to why we can't open
Oracle Spatial files on our non-development computers?

Thanks,

Chris

2003-05-29 Thread Alex Schulz
One other way (it may require latest excel and access to achieve easily)
first export the map as access and open the access table in excel
(import) do what you want to do using excel functionality then link the
excel table and create update query of the resulting excel formula. If
you want this top happen when ever you open the access run a macro that
runs the query and call it AutoExe (no Dot) and it will run when you
open access MDB

Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so how was it resolved?

RE: MI-L Save Window advanced options

2003-05-29 Thread Jacques Paris
I am afraid I cannot do it. The settings used for the production of the
image (as simple as the border) are those shown in the requester and not
those specified for the window (no changes in the save window as |
advanced requester after a set window). Or I do not know how to specify the
printer name

Hi Paolo,

You may control all the options you see in the advanced dialog through the
Set Window statement.

Re: MI-L Save Window advanced options

2003-05-29 Thread Laurence Seeff
Hi,

Assuming you window is the front window:

Set Window FrontWindow() PrinterBorder ON Dither Halftone
...and so on. The Set window statement in the Mapbasic helpdefines it all.
