I've had no problems whatsoever. I have WinZip 9.0SR1 installed, and can open the EXE and view its contents without problem; and, of course, I can install the Proviewer78.exe by double-clicking. RE: MI-L Defining a custom field in an SQL Select Query - Making expressions with Functions
Hi, I think you have found one of the things that the SQL syntax doesn't allow. There is a few combinations that MapInfo doesn't allow. To get around them you can most do your SQL in 2 steps in stead of just one: 1. Select Sum(population) "SUM_POP", Sum(Area) "SUM_AREA" From ... Into SQL_PART1 2. Select SUM_POP/SUM_AREA "Density" From SQL_PART1 ... HTH, Peter Horsbøll Møller GIS Developer Geographical Information & IT COWI A/S Odensevej 95 DK-5260 Odense S. In order to get the aggregate density for the total area, I'm summing these two fields in a query and manually dividing total population by total area. My issue is that MapInfo allows me to define two separate columns using the sum(*) function, but when I try to define a single density field, which looks something like this: Sum(population)/Sum(Area) "Density" It doesn't work. "Found[/] while searching for [A string constant]" is the error I get. Interestingly, the following custom fields do work: Population/Area - returns the density of each region in the table Sum(Population/Area) - returns the sum of all regions' density, which is meaningless. I don't want a MapBasic solution, I would just like someone to confirm that what I'm trying to do is not allowed, or let me know if there is a way. RE: MI-L Thematic Bubble Map Question
I've heard this comment several times this year, and can partially understand why folks come to this conclusion. The LEGEND of the thematic map show three REPRESENTATIVE symbols, but the actual symbol sizes are virtually infinite. You might want to change what point size symbol is used at what value to help you see this clearly. MI-L Ang. MI-L Thematic Bubble Map Question
Hi Josh! A common misconception, perhaps due to an unclear GUI of graduated symbols (bubble map?). The 'three grades' are only samples, and intermediate bubble sizes will be created as needed. You only get to select the symbol size for one value and have to play around with that to match your data set. Suggestion: Try 'advanced' and log(arithmic) if your range is very wide. mia culpa, excuse my sleepy transgression! a bit too early here (before 6am) to be right on top of important things like esri file types! of course you are correct, the workspace equivalent is the apr ("arcview project") file in ArcView 3x. which, of course, does not translate into a MapInfo workspace in any way other than brute force (that I have found anyway.) another heads up, any colors applied in arcview via an avl ("arcview legend") file will have to be recreated in MapInfo as well (either manually or i believe there is at least one tool out there that attempts it automatically.) cinda graubard GeoMax At 06:06 AM 12/10/2004, Warren Vick, Europa Technologies Ltd. wrote: Hello Cinda, Actually ESRI PRJ's are projection files. Hello Cinda, Actually ESRI PRJ's are projection files. The equivalent of a MapInfo workspace is an APR in ArcView v3.x and MXD's for ArcGIS v8/9.x. Other correspondents are correct, the UT doesn't used them and one needs to specify the coordinate system/projection/datum manual for each SHP->TAB translation. Re: MI-L Translating Shape files, which files are necessary
the .shp file translation will use the required additional files and create the .tab, .map, .dat etc. note, however, that the .prj file is NOT a projection file, but a "project" file which is equivalent (more or less) to a MapInfo workspace. you will have to know the original projection and set it in UT. cinda graubard geomax At 09:14 PM 12/09/2004, David Reid wrote: Greetings list. The sets contain the following ordinary ESRI files, does UT require _ALL_ of these files to convert to tabs? *.sbx *.prj projection file? *.sbn *.dbf data *.shp vector data? *.shx index data? I know the dbf and shp files are required and probably a couple more but all? Thanks, David Reid --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
