MD: Sharp Track Titling
Hi all Questions about easier titling on Sharp MDs, or come to that any MD unit, crop up with regularity. I own a Psion 5 PDA, it would be great if you could input the titles via the Psion 5 and then just shoot them across to your MD unit via the Infra-red port! Does anyone know if such a program exists for the Psion? Regards RichardC - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: MD: Fw: Entering service mode on Sharp-MD MT 831
Heya, OPEN - i.e. the unit must have NO POWER Press and hold PLAY, SYNC[Enter] and DISP buttons. THEN drop in the battery and close the compartment (or apply external power - eg turn on the DC power source) Display says the EEPROM version code , followed by all symbols lighting up, followed by the standard Sharp test menu My EEPROM version code is 921AcX Don't know what it means though! Gezus, it's been a hell of a long time since I last posted here... Heh... Exams, and stuff... infact I'm one of those lucky people in england who gets his A-Level results in about 45 minutes. The test menu on the 831 is not vastly different fron the 701/702/722... I still maintain my 722 site which might be worth a look. http://www.wood-soft.co.uk/index.php?directory=/sharp7XX/ It's my first PHP site, so if you have any problems *please* let me know or click the report problem button at the top of each page. MD: MZ-E900, R900 - scary Sony!
Sony really is going all out this time, it seems. To the extent that they're getting the news out on a week when so many people are on holiday in Japan. Scary specs, too. - a 20-disc settings database? Geez! - speed control: do they need it for every equipment? :) - They've gone back to rotary switches on the stick remote. The way volume control is set doesn't look good. - spindle runs at 3x speed, so what would that be? 1200-2700 rpm+? and we thought R90/E90/E77 were noisy... But having said all that, the good things... - program play - the R900 has the standard monaural recording mode; - Sony bothers to make the E900 a gram lighter than the Panasonic MJ77. - a RISC processor inside your MD portable sounds good. This is the first time in a decade that I find Sony Walkmans desirable. Depending on what Sharp comes up with, I'll definitely be considering these two when I want MD-LP compatible units. Hey, me increasing the world's knowledge? :P The info is still on the minidisc.org front page. With translation too. What I posted were really opinions, and not reporting on fact. end search is probably still on there (no proof/disproof), but it does support the two LP mdoes. MD: Watermaking DVD-Audio
"Watermark could reduce the perceived quality of DVD-A to somewhere between a good MiniDisc and a below-average CD," says a leading classical recording engineer. The above was the lead quote from an article re: the delay of DVD audio because the supposedly inaudible watermarking could, in fact, be heard on the recordings. Here's the URL for the story from AudioRevolution.com, although this is the only instance (I think - since I only scanned the article quickly) in which MD is mentioned. http://www.AudioRevolution.com/news/0800/09.dvdwatermark.shtml What's strange is that none of my MDs sound like buzzing bees (or even bees at rest). I must be doing something wrong. JMJ __ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages get email alerts with Yahoo! MD: MD in a back-to-school commercial
Saw an interesting commercial last night (US TV). It was an advert for back-to-school, and it featured different, supposedly indispensible, items for back-to=school flying across the screen. The first item that was shown was a flying minidisc. I doubt whether many of the people watching that commercial would even know what that was; but it definitely looked like a cool thing. Too bad they weren't actually trying to sell MDs. __ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages get email alerts with Yahoo! MD: Can Anyone Help Me?
A loaded question to be sure. Here's my problem. I am trying to record digitally from a DenonDN-C680 CD Player (no optical output) to my Sharp MT-15. I bought a Coax - Optical converter from someone who had advertised it on this list. It seems to be working OK as I see a red light on the cable that is coming out from the unit (optical - mini). I have a digital coax cable that I bought from Sound Professionals running from the CD player into the converter. The coax cable is coming from the digital out (unbalanced) RCA type-jack on the CD player. There is also an XLR type connection, but that doesn't do me any good. The message on the MD unit says "Can't Record". I have tried using the Sync/Enter button with the CD player running or in pause or stop mode (which is how it is supposed to work). I have also tried hitting the record button and then Sync/Enter; or record and then play (as if it were a cassette deck). The message consistently says "Can't record". The only difference is that when I hit the record button, the VU meter on the MD actually shows the recording level - it doesn't record, just shows the level to taunt me. Can anyone explain this to me? I thought I was beginning to grasp all of this, but I guess not. This is why I bought the Sony MDX-D3, though it would be really convenient for me to record from this unit as well. Not to mention that I have spent about $65.00 on equipment to make it work. For $35.00 more, I could have gotten a portable CD player with optical out. Too late now, though. Thanks for your help. James __ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages get email alerts with Yahoo! MD: USB Digital in?
I've seen the Xitel and other USB-Toslink devices, but it looks like they are only for recording from a PC to an MD. I want to copy live recordings I made on MD onto my PC. Do these USB devices do this, and I just missed that part of the specs, or can someone recommend something else? I can of course record in analog thru the mic/line-in on my computer, but I would prefer an all-digital connection so I don't have to screw around with level matching again. -- Howard - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: minidisc on CNNfn
It's nice to hear when MD vs MP3 is treated objectively in the media. pros: cheaper media longer recording time higher quality recording wider choice of players more editing/mix capabilities I definitely agree with the "pros". (I think higher recording quality is based on the 128K MP3's that are widely available in the 'net; MP3 gives fairly high quality at higher bit rates.) cons: double compression The damage has been done by the 128K MP3 compression. I think that ATRAC 4.5 or "R" compression makes an inaudible difference after that. larger than mp3 players True, but the R70 is really darn small. needs high-end recorder (???) The R70 *is* a recorder. It even has digital in. The real con is that your computer has to have digital out to use it. Also, it only does 1X transfer. Sony *could* change that, though, to 2X if you used 88.2K on something like a DIO2496. Or maybe even 4X with USB. Another point that would eliminate a potential advantage of MP3 is if there was software to automatically transfer the titles from the MP3 files as they were being recorded. - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

=== The original message was multipart MIME=== === All non-text parts (attachments) have been removed === Ian Thanks for the info. I failed to mentiond that my MD is portable and the the virtual remote or easy text would only work for a home unit. This is beginning to sound hopeless. Why does sharp make a product and not make the tools to use it?? RE: MD: Can Anyone Help Me?
Sounds to me like your source you are trying to record from is SCMS protected. Is the source made from a consumer CD Recorder Deck? Thus you cannot make a digital copy of it, only analogue.
