It's happened again with a different disk. It doesn't happen very often at
all though (perhaps 4s of skipping on a disk; not at repeatable points on
the disk even.

Does it happen with one or all discs you put in there? If the first, try
erasing and re-recording the disc and see if you still have the problem.
If
the latter, definitely get the thing repaired.

My Sony MZ-R900 (about 4 months) old started skipping yesterday; playing
an
LP2 disc while the recorder was stationary. It sounded just like a
scratched/dirty CD, but resolved when I skipped back to the start of the
 track.

Is this likely to happen again, should I get the unit checked/repaired?

 Thanks,

Announcing MiniDisc Control Center!

This free program allows you to control a Sony MZ-R900 MiniDisc recorder
from your computer. The program uses an interface that connects the

computer, including titling and full recording from Winamp.

Thanks to all the people who replied to my post concerning earphones for use
with a portable MD player. This week I received my Sennheiser MX500
earphones that I had on order at a local shop. These earphones sound really
good, and are a bargain for the $40 (that's Australia$, only $20 US). There
is an amazing difference between the sound of these new earphones and the
ones that came with my MZR-900. Deeper base, clearer trebble, and a more
natural sound. I definitely recommend these Sennheisers from portable MD
use.

Re: MD: Mironics computer interface

2001-06-20 Thread Tim Pitman

The differences between the commercial version and the DIY version of the
interface only affect the volume buttons (the DIY one uses and 8 way
analogue multiplexer, allowing only 8 possible functions)

I've had a fair bit of programming experience, including directly
programming the paralell port under DOS, and serial port under Windows, so I
might have a go at writing my own titling program. It would really be
helpful if Mironics did offer an ActiveX interface though. Is there someone

MD: mp3 to MD - DIY

2001-02-22 Thread tim m

hi.
just subscribed to the list mainly for a tech 'problem' that i have.
i have a 1024 Player SBLive! and i would like to record my mp3s on to my
Sony MZ-R37 portable.
to do this digitally(optical cable) i have to spend $85 for Creative's
Digital I/O Board,or 40-50$ for Hoontech's daughter card.(and all i want is
one optical out).
However i recently found out that you can have optical out only by using a
DIY "circuit-module' .As i saw at a relevant site this means converting the
coax signals to TTL signals and subsequently convert the TTL signals to
fiber optic using a TOSLINK transmitter.
The fact is that i know shit about building even the simplest circuit,so i'd
like to ask if there's anyone out there who sells this stuff readymade. If
so,please contact me i'd be very interested.
Thanx

This is a very reputable company and the price of this special sounds
good.

But you have to factor in the shipping and service charge. That will
raise
 the price somewhat.

 Larry

PS It really pisses me off when sites like CNET list prices. They will
say, "such and such has the lowest price". They never factor in shipping.
I constantly see things that are actually much higher than their
competitor
once you factor in the shipping charge.

MD: Sony has seen the light!

2000-04-02 Thread Tim

Well ever since MP3 came out and all the "Little Ones" discovered it, I
thought for sure that MD would begin to be the DAT of the 90's. Sony then
came out with their stick and I was surely counting the days remaining
before I realized MD's and all their equipment would become extinct (except
for a few of us who know better, and God only knows what that would do to
the price of blanks). Low and behold what do I see when I open my "Best Buy"
ad this morning??

A MD player recorder with the necessary equipment and software that will
allow you to record MP3's to MD with "Little" hassle! I don't know about the
rest of you but I find this a VERY GOOD thing! As the "Little Ones" grow up
and realize the sound quality of MP3's are not nearly as good as a direct CD
to MD transfer they will already be a MD owner!

Long Live MD!

MD: Morgan warning

2000-02-17 Thread Tim Arnold

I was in London and bought 10 Traxdata 74 Min
Minidisks from MORGAN Computer Co in New Oxford Street (not the most likely
venue for MD's, but a good venue for
bankrupt computer goods)

Be warned. I have had terrible problems trying to buy stuff from this
outlet. Be very, very, careful.

Anyone noticed that if you pull the earphone plug just
a little way out (2-3mm) on the RM-MZR50 the audio
turns to mono and loses the main vocal track?

Just in case no one had noticed...

MD: Tracks not being identified

1999-11-29 Thread tim

Hi,

I'm very new to this (MD) world but I have noticed that, when
recording from my CD walkman to my Sony MZR55 using an
analogue connection, there are a couple of my CD's which when
recorded on to MD do not indicated individual tracks on the MD (ie.
the whole album is recorded as track 1)

This is made all the more unusual by the fact that these same CDs
have done so on previous occasions.

Any input welcomed.

MD: Mic for MZR55

1999-11-24 Thread tim

Hi,

I'm in the UK (London) and want to get a low-cost but fair quality
mic for my newly acquired MZR55.

I will be using the mic mainly for interviewing people.

Any suggestions, websites etc. greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Tim

I am looking to upgrade from a Sony JE530 to a JB920. Is this a good
unit? Should I wait for the JB930?

Re: MD: Neato labels

1999-07-25 Thread Tim

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Hi all, I have been reading some of your comments about Neato MD labels and I
have a couple of questions. First, how well do the labels stick to brands of
MD other than Sony that don't have the right size depression for the label on
the surface of the disk, like TDK, or have an uneven surface, like Maxell?

They stick fine. I have used them on over 100 MD's. ALL BRANDS. I do allot of
trading so I never know what brand I am going to get. I have had no problems with
them sticking. What I do is label the spine with the name of the group, label the
back with the songs and track numbers and then I get the cover artwork usually
from CD Now unless they don't have it then I search the net for it and that is
the label I put on the front of the disc itself.

Second, how hard are they to remove, in case you re-record or add tracks to
 an MD?

I don't know, I have never removed one. By the way they hold, I would say pretty
hard.

Also, are there any problems keeping the labels aligned in the
printer, especially with the narrow little spine label?

What I do is this..I will run a copy of just the wording without the artwork
(to save ink) on plain paper. Then I hold it on top of the sheet of labels up to
the light to make sure it is aligned correctly. There are sometimes, especially
with the spine that you need to drop down a hair from the template in the "Media
Face" program, but not often. After I see everything is good, I'll add the cover
art and let er rip!

Does anyone know which Avery labels are the best for MDs?

Once you go http://www.neato.com you'll never go back!

So tell me about these neato labels.

Ok

What size sheet do they come on?

8 1/2 x 11 and they are designed for sony mini's but I still use the labels on
all my MD's

If the sheet is only a little larger than the labels themselves, they won't
go through any printer I've seen...

No problem Sir, they will fit fine in your printer. There are enough to do 4
MD's on each sheet( spine, front of disc and back of disc case ). To hell with
this measure and cut crap with avery. I just load the images and wording on the
templates ( that are provided in their program called "Media Face" ) and let er
rip!
I love the program! The Best Buy store close to me is now selling the Sony
color MD's in an 8 pack with the case for $19.99. They are designed for sony
although I use them on all my MD's.

Check it out, it is worth your time.

p.s. sorry all you label trimmers! :-)

I have gotten 4 BASF discs in on trades, and ALL 3 of them after very little usage

Could you give a little more detail on your problems with BASF blanks ?
Was it a mechanical problem or the medium itself ? I just bought a five
pack of BASFs and didn't have any problems yet, apart from the crappy
labels. If there is anything wrong with BASF blanks, I'd stop buying
 them in the future.
