It would seem you are *very* fluent in gibberish and insensitivity as well. The Dynamic Store would do well to invite you to keep your money. I suggest you spend it on some lessons in world citizenship. Jim Lee Ryan Hutson wrote: Or Korean? Or Chinese? Or whatever the heck the Dyanmic Store is fluent in?? Re: MD: Anyone know Japanese?
Barring the use of the word "gibberish" when referring to the language of Japanese, I didn't find anything offensive in what was said. "Gibberish" *was* a bad, descriptive choice though. Anyway, if you use Netscape and go to a Japanese site, you can look under the "View" menu (I think it is) and find "translate" It'll roughly translate Japanese into English. They call it "gisting." "Gibberishing" would be the reverse, I suppose ;-) Regarding the product, the characters on the left just say, "POHTABURU OHDIO (portable audio)" And 23,000 yen is about US $210.00 (USD 1 = JPY 106 about). Is this price for a MZ-E77 better than outside Japan? Re: MD: Anyone know Japanese?
Ok, I know this list is about MD related stuff and not necessarily about world citizenship. Nevertheless, it is an international list and we are all therefore a part of that world community. I would have probably ignored Ryan's use of the word "gibberish" had it been the only offensive part of his posting. I do recognize that some pages do present "gibberish" characters in place of the uninstalled fonts. My attention was actually drawn to the first sentence as an extension of the subject line. Ryan apparently knows that the Dynamic Store has a ".jp" inclusion in the URL. To add Korean, Chinese, or "whatever the heck." is a very dismissive approach to the distinctive character of each of those cultures. I will not go into all the implications of such lumping of Asian cultures into some kind of "whatever the heck." Perhaps all of this is just a result of some youthful insensitivity. I don't know. Still, I think we don't have to read very much world news to understand the importance of building respectful communities wherever we go (online or in person). My apologies to all those who might lose patience with this somewhat off subject posting. Back to MD issues? Jim Lee Ryan Hutson wrote: Or Korean? Or Chinese? Re: MD: Anyone know Japanese?
Wow..I apologize profusely if anyone took what I said the wrong way. I did not mean to slur anyone at all. I have nothing against the Dynamic Store or any other foreign dealer, nor their language. In fact, I've been e-mailing a Japanese retailer for the past couple of weeks trying to get a good deal on the MZ-E77, and they have been more than helpful in getting me what I want at a good price. I would never, in my wildest dreams, think of putting down anyone because of their race, so again, I'm sorry if what I said was taken differently than what I meant. Yes, "gibberish" was probably the wrong word to use, but I guess I thought it was light and playful..I'll review what I say next time. Sorry again! Re: MD: Anyone know Japanese?
Hi Ryan, I read Japanese. :) As far as I can see, they don't do business beyond Japan. There isn't a single word even on the possibility of overseas delivery. The 23,000 price tag for the E77 is nothing to be excited about. Other online mail order sites (for Japan domestic) go as low as 20,500 yen. :) There are also retailers like Hyperjack. They haven't quoted a fixed price for the E77, treating it as the "open-priced" product it is for domestic and foreign orders. Back when there were no "Panasonic" stereos in Japan, Sony was a premium brand, so they used to sell for more. Since the early 90s, Sony's image has suffered for a while, and this extra profit margin faded, but I guess they're still trying. Sony's pricing policy in general is still what they used to do. Add this to a gradual slip in quality in some products... Some do think Sony has an attitude problem, but oh well, they did lose out on DVD. :) Leon Or Korean? Or Chinese? Re: MD: Anyone know Japanese?
I know I started this part of the "Anyone know Japanese?" thread so I cannot say too much about its continuation. This is likely my last posting on the issue. My comment was directed at Ryan simply because he made the initial posting. The point, however is less about Ryan and more about how we (all of us) deal with community. Ryan has already made what I consider a very mature and sincere statement regarding his posting. Such a comment would not likely come from an ignorant person. Rather it has come from someone who seems willing to acknowledge a mistake and move on. Maybe it is time for all of us to move on. Thanks to all who have responded. Now about that AudioTechnica 825 stereo mic question I asked some time ago. Here is the question: I am using a borrowed AT 825 stereo mic. The owner has adapted the pin XLRF plug to a three wire 1/8" stereo plug so that it will feed portable DAT or MD. The system works fine with my Sharp 722 except that it seems a bit noisier than I expected. Fresh batteries made a slight difference but there is still this hiss. My old Radio Shack Optimums unidirectional (pin, battery powered) is much quieter. Could the adaptation be problematic? Anybody else had noise problems with this mic?
