you follow Dan's list you will find the problem. George may be able to tell

Yes it is. It served me well last summer. What do you reckon Murphy would

[MBZ] Wagon update insurance ?'s

2006-04-16 Thread Joe Knight
Got a couple of welcome checks in the mail today, the first to cover
the bulk of the cost of repairs to the wagon, with perhaps a bit more
to come for incidentals not originally included in the estimate. It
went to the paint shop earlier this week and it looks as though I'll
have it back next weekend or shortly thereafter.

Second check gives rise to a question. It was for $576 which Farmers
maintains is their cost for 2 months rental. Seems unbelievably low
even for an econobox and I was authorized for rental of a minivan
anyway. I'm sure Farmers gets a better rate than someone walking in
off the street but less than $10/day...? Anybody have any experience
with contesting an allowance of this sort?

Another little issue is diminution of value. It should probably be
borne in mind that this is in CA. Farmers maintains that they make no
immediate allowance for this but that it remains open until the
vehicle is sold at which time a claim might be allowed if it can be
documented that the vehicle could have been sold at a higher price had
it not been in an accident. Anybody have any experience or know of
any case law that might bear on this issue?

Tell them to fix it or talk to your lawyer, and see what they say.
Their cost is only relevant if they offered to put a car in your
driveway. If they send you a check to compensate for what it costs
you to rent a car, it should be based on your cost for a two month
rental, and not for 1/24 of a 48 month lease. (that's just the
voice of fairness speaking, I know nothing of CA laws)

[MBZ] a cheap 300SD, worth the chance?

2006-04-16 Thread kevin kraly

Hello everyone!

I found this 300SD on Craigslist a couple days ago, and it hasn't sold yet.
It has 200K on the clock, and other than the missing front bumper, it could
be a good, cheap W126.

http://portland.craigslist.org/car/150638407.html

It states in the ad that it comes with a California bill of sale. How
likely is it that I could obtain an Oregon title for this car? Do I first
have to register it in California? Is this even possible with only a bill
of sale? I'm going to get the VIN from the owner to have it checked out
since it's possible with a 1982 model 17 digit VIN.

Thanks for any input/suggestions!

Kevin in Hillsboro Oregon, Benzless for now

It's my understanding that if a CA registration expires, you have to pay up for
the years you weren't driving the thing before you can get a current

I might not get quite so angry if during tough times the shareholders
could sell the presidents wife and children into slavery and get the
president to cut their grass while being paid the prevailing wage
computed from the number of yards they finished! Instead presidents/CEOs
are handsomely rewarded for minimizing the losses by firing the most

My 201s have them starting in 1984. The units used in later models
('89+) seem much more robust. I've put newer (but still used) ones into
