Unfortunately, even that doesn't work sometimes. recently, we were

going in a few miles down the road, and whenever the real estate agents
are having trouble unloading the poorly built overpriced dumps, they
call code enforcement on every house along the roads going to their
overpriced subdivisions. This all used to be farmland and hillbilly

I think that while we're still in the majority, we need to start a HOA

Yes, I have a similar problem. I can squeeze 4 cars in my driveway and have
three there already. I turned down a 240D with blown engine for $200
because no place to put it-might have been a transplant from the Green
goddess as that engine is strong but body is succumbing to the tin worm.

Go for it Kevin-sort out the spare parts later.

The only problem is that my wife and I are living in an apartment with no
place to park vehicles! The Dodge pickup is hogging the tandem space with
only enough room for a Smart behind it! I think that I'm going to switch
the truck out with the SD here at the apartment and pull the 220D in behind
it. The truck is nearly 4' longer than the SD (206 for the SD and 249.7
for the BEAST! Either that or I'll have to find a place to store all of the

Mercedes until we find ourselves a house. Some of the neighborhoods in our
target area have home owner's associations (HOA's) that have funky rules
about unsightly vehicles. I'm sure that a '72 220D in reasonable
condition wouldn't cause many problems, but any rusty hulk with the hood
and other parts missing, dirty engine bay, and being up on jackstands
wouldn't go over too well unless it was contained within a garage. I guess
we'll see what happens.

Around here if you have your junk, or whatever, before they pass the zoning,
codes etc, you are grandfathered in so they cant do a thing about it. Off
the top of my head there are at least 2 such instances smak in the middle of
town. One guy had this big parcel of land right in the middle of town that
he had old houses moved in, old cars, just about any kind of junk you can
think of. I mean it was crammed in there. Looked like a junk yard. City
couldnt do anything about it at all. He died several years ago and somehow
the city ended up with the property and cleaned it up. All the junk is gone
now but no telling how many millions that cost the city. The other example,
guy is still there he has a regular house on a regular size lot in the
middle of town that he basically has a car lot on, with lots of junk cars.
Cant do anything about him either because he was around before there were
regulations. There are many folks out in the coutry that are similar in
areas that have zoning etc now but there were there before all that.

This happens to someone in the mog world about every 8 months or so.
The HOA starts bitching and trying to kick the mog out with existing
rules like no dualie trucks (mogs have singles) no commercial
vehicles (its not) no vehicles with GVW over 10k (its around 6-8k,
less than the BIG SUVs parked all over) Its like they take one look
and start throwing rules at it without bothering to see if the rules
apply.

Re: [MBZ] HOAs Re: anyone want a CHEAP 240D Fixer?

2007-07-28 Thread Robert Tara Ludwick
There used to be a cylinder head shop/MB and others boneyard in Little
Rock, on the outskirts, and when the city encroached on it, it went
by-by. I haven't got the straight story, but the word is that the guy
got zoned/legislated/taxed out of existence. Big industrial development
going in it's place last time I went by.

Out where we are, all the folks around here run business out of their
houses, some involve some heavy equipment, the guy behind me gets semi
trucks delivering for his beverage machine business in the middle of the
night. Non of it bothers any of us who moved out here in the first place
to get away from all the citified ways of doing things, but for some
reason, it's a problem for the new people buying places way down the
road who can't see or hear it at home ( and I'm paying for a sewer on my
water bill that got run to those morons along a different road just
because it's past me, but there's no plans to run it up my road...go figure)

They're in the vicinity of Tahoe, but closer to Carson
City, the capital of NV. Come December, I'll have my
teaching licenses in the following areas:

Special Education K-12
Elementary Education K-6
Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum (majjor subject
areas from grades 7-9)
Earth/Space Science (grades 7-12)
September)

I'll have no problem whatsoever landing a job with
either Special Ed. or science, and Florida has
reciprocity with NV, so they will recognize my
certifications right out of the gate. NV is currently
offering spiffs to Special Ed. folks as in accelerated
retirement earnings and ca$h.

Gardnerville/Minden is a nice area, pretty laid back
semi-rural, but it's close enough to Carson City or
even Reno if you want big city stuff. I'm not that
enamored of Tahoe, moreso of the proximity to the
Sierras and possibly Mammoth Lake if it's skiing.

And the climate... I gotta get somewhere that has four
seasons. Florida is killing me.

Hood Scoop

That should solve the underhood squeeze and be that much cooler
looking. Using the older 616 with oil bath air filter gives a bit
more clearance and all I would need is the valve cover chromed.

Is that really possible without major modifications? I've heard
conflicting things about the hood clearance on 107s, and the 617 is
taller than any gas motor. Or maybe it was the reason they never put
the 603 in the 126 coupe? Either way, I'd sure like to have an SDC

I gotta say that I find the 126 body style to be a real turn-off. I

have lasted as long, and for those 7 years, I was driving an S class
Mercedes Benz, and quite possibly one of the best looking, timeless
cars ever made. Not to mention the safety of a MB.
A really good SDL is still worth 10k to someone who puts on lots of
 miles.

When I got my first 190Dc, I found the MB diesel was the lowest
cost/mile to operate of anything available. The cost/mile has gone
up dramatically, but the MB Diesel cost/mile still holds up pretty
well if you buy used and drive lotsa miles.

Gassers cost more than diesels, but MB gassers cost/mile can still
hold up pretty well compared to other gassers.

$10,000). The car was very nice and it only had 89,000 miles.
 But,
 that still seems crazy.

 I'm not a bit surprised. I paid $9,000 for my 300SDL. I goy 5 very

My budget at the time was $10,000 for a commuter. What were my

The person who bought this one, from a good Indy will probably get
 similar results.

The more important question is this: why would you want to remove it?

Let's face it, any dog worth having marks its spot from time to time. Or, in
the case of my household, any good cat ...

I'd say keep the spot intact as a conversation piece. And when anyone asks
what the stain is on the garage floor, just reply, I own a diesel Benz and
you don't, so you wouldn't understand.

The neighbors have CCR, but my house was not part of that build

nuthin' they can do about it. Now she is in the shop and the oily

Simple green does a pretty decent job. Let it soak for a while keep it
wet then hose it off.

Refrigerator coil cleaner does a bang up job ( nasty stuff, caustic soda )

Well, it looks like luck is going my way although I wasn't able to look at
the W115 Diesels last night!! The guy wouldn't have been home when I got
there. However, I've set up an appointment to look at them tomorrow at
3:00. If I get out there before he gets home from his meeting, he told me
just to help myself and look things over to see if they appeal to me. At
this point, he wants to get them off his hands, and there's lots of pressure
from Wifey to make it happen as quickly as possible. Some guy came out
Thursday with jumper cables trying to start both cars by hooking directly to
the battery cable. Neither of them had batteries in them, so, of course,
that didn't work. I'm preparing myself with a battery, some DIesel and a
tool kit to see what I can do. He even offered to haul them on his flatbed
trailer wherever they needed to go if I decided to buy them.

I got a little more info about the 240D. It has a power sunroof, and it's
an automatic.

I'm sure I'll have all kinds of info to post once I have a chance to check
out both cars.

Anglelo,

Regular clay based kitty litter will lift it out. You can grind the stuff
into the concrete with the heel of an old shoe. Leave a fresh bunch for a
couple days. The powder residue remaining will match the concrete pretty
close.
