After harrassing/being harrassed at the Dodge, Chevy, GMC, and two Fords
dealers, we placed an order for an F150 this afternoon. It's relatively
basic, with a few options due to advancing age, and the 5.0L V8. We expect
to drive the value out of this truck, and hope that it will be last car we
buy (unless I start "playing" with cars again someday). The "X Partner
Plan" from our EAA membership helped seal the deal with Ford - saved ~
$2000 based on that $50/year membership. Yes - Ford financing gets another
$1500 off the price, with a minimum financed of $10,000. You have to make
at least four payments, but the first one can be all but $1000 of the
balance. The next three will then be minimal, and carry very little
interest.

Haven't negotiated the trade-ins yet - the ML320 is still up for grabs. I
expect to get offered near the Edmunds trade-in value of $1760 for it. Any
offers higher than that?

If you are sending HTML rather than plain text, that often
raises a spam score. And if the reply address and the send-from

[MBZ] ML320 for sale, was - pickem-up trucks

Yup - trade-in "value" sucks on the owners end, is great on the dealers

[MBZ] New Car (MB content)

2013-02-02 Thread Dan Penoff
Tarek and I were able to work out a deal this week, so I flew up to Raleigh
yesterday and drove the S500 home. Tarek's father was gracious enough to pick
me up at the airport and follow me to the NC DMV so I could get a temp plate
before I started south. Trip was uneventful and I was resting in bed by 10:30
that evening.

It got the full Mercedes Martha Stewart treatment today, which will continue
tomorrow after I am finished with a maintenance outage at work on Sunday
morning when we have to take an EVA down to replace some controllers. New
windshield and probably a set of tires coming this week. A few minor things
I'll address, but everything is working (at least as far as I can tell! - this
is a far more complex car than any other MB I've owned!) and any repairs it
might need are minor.

In anticipation I have been trolling some of the MB forums and looking over 140
related subject matter.

Is there an online service manual like there is of the W124s? I could sure use
some service literature for my benefit, but I'm not finding much. I need to
replace some lamps in the ACC panels and troubleshoot a vacuum door close
assist actuator in the driver's door, so it would be nice to be able to see
the procedures before tearing in to things.

Anybody want an analog phone? This car has the factory cell phone, but it's
pretty much dead weight these days. I would like to have the storage space
back for the controller, which is in the storage area above the center ACC
vents. I'm also curious as to how the inside of the console is configured of
you didn't have the phone - right now the handset takes up about a third of the
space next to the cup holders.

I'm also struggling over the Becker 1492. While the sound system is fine for
me, I really want an aux input for my iPod. Not sure I want to do a swap with
Ed or go aftermarket. I'm concerned about the aesthetics if I went
aftermarket, and I am a purist who likes to keep things bone stock. This is
going to be a difficult decision.

If anyone has any guidance on W140 web sites or resources, I'm all ears.

It's good to be back. Just don't tell my Focus - I will miss filling up once a
week for under $40.

I did the googling. The vast majority of the things I found are how to add
a domain to one's email client for one's incoming email.

The only thing I found that would allow one to whitelist one's own domain
on the spamblocker's lists was an outdated Spamhaus program at
http://www.spamhauswhitelist.com/en/ that required an invitation from
someone already on their whitelist.

Any more hints?

How about an FM transmitter for the iPod and no modification to the car?

Congrats. There may be a 140 DVD somewhere but really the 140 and later cars
are covered by the WIS. you will also need the xentry system to do any sort of
in depth work on the thing.

Congratulations!

I think the only source of info is the WIS, accessible online for a fee, via
startek.

Check with BeckerUSA (Ed) I am sure they can add the ipod (aux)
input without damage. I would guess this radio already has an input
for AUX as a cord dangling off the back or a jack on the back. A
plug into that and run a cord to an inconspicuous spot to put a panel
mount input jack, and you might be done.

Congrats on being back in the fold. It is good to have you back,
although you have never really been gone.

Tarek and I were able to work out a deal this week, so I flew up to
Raleigh yesterday and drove the S500 home. Tarek's father was
gracious enough to pick me up at the airport and follow me to the NC
DMV so I could get a temp plate before I started south. Trip was
uneventful and I was resting in bed by 10:30 that evening.

It got the full Mercedes Martha Stewart treatment today, which will
continue tomorrow after I am finished with a maintenance outage at
work on Sunday morning when we have to take an EVA down to replace
some controllers. New windshield and probably a set of tires coming
this week. A few minor things I'll address, but everything is
working (at least as far as I can tell! - this is a far more complex
car than any other MB I've owned!) and any repairs it might need are
minor.

In anticipation I have been trolling some of the MB forums and
looking over 140 related subject matter.

Is there an online service manual like there is of the W124s? I
could sure use some service literature for my benefit, but I'm not
finding much. I need to replace some lamps in the ACC panels and
troubleshoot a vacuum door close assist actuator in the driver's
door, so it would be nice to be able to see the procedures before
tearing in to things.

Anybody want an analog phone? This car has the factory cell phone,
but it's pretty much dead weight these days. I would like to have
the storage space back for the controller, which is in the storage
area above the center ACC vents. I'm also curious as to how the
inside of the console is configured of you didn't have the phone -
right now the handset takes up about a third of the space next to
the cup holders.

I'm also struggling over the Becker 1492. While the sound system is
fine for me, I really want an aux input for my iPod. Not sure I
want to do a swap with Ed or go aftermarket. I'm concerned about
the aesthetics if I went aftermarket, and I am a purist who likes to
keep things bone stock. This is going to be a difficult decision.

If anyone has any guidance on W140 web sites or resources, I'm all ears.

It's good to be back. Just don't tell my Focus - I will miss
filling up once a week for under $40.

There are more than 7 pages under "Mercedes Manuals" at Abebooks. Glanced
through them and didn't see any about 140s, but there might be if you want
to take the time to look at all of them. www.abebooks.com lists books
from book sellers all over the world who will ship to the U.S. at a stated
price.
