With the current drought, I guess the answer would be barely. However, in Oregon where we came from and may move back to again, there is more than enough water most of the time. Re: [MBZ] Delivery valve union oring size
Curt, you are right. My eye was pretty good. Turns out the 1/16 by 5/8 orings are workable. Cross-section dia is a little small. Dia is a little small also. Perhaps 2mm x 16mm or 17mm would be about right. The US size will seal, so I put them in. I thought I could change these orings without changing springs, so I didn't order springs. Well, one slipped out of my hand and fell down under the brake booster. I can't find it with a magnet. Will try again tomorrow. So, for future notes: Use a magnetic dish to hold the springs, orings, and copper seals. Order the springs anyway. I usually do, but for this time, I just wanted to do a quickie oring change. I did use the spare oring. I put one back together without the spring, so had to take it apart. Some of the oring was left behind, so I swapped it for the last good one. Normally I have extra new or used springs, but have none here now. Bummer Previous message: I just bought 7 of 1/16 x 5/8" viton orings. They look about right. I will try the job on Sat. If I start on Fri night, I can still get other US sizes Sat am. Local place did not have metric viton. Worst case, I can use Buna metric this time around, and then if they go bad later, change to viton. Right now, I don't have BioD readily available so viton is overkill. I think your memory is correct. I know I saw somewhere that listed the size (maybe here?) but I can't recall right now and google is no help. This might be an annoying part in this post-Q world, its available from Mercedes Source and Diesel Giant but only as part of a kit and at what I'd consider and absurd price. DG wants $25 for the orings and copper washers. I think last year Q wanted like $15 for that and the springs... -Curt ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] The 190D rides again
I guess after two successful commuting days I can declare a little victory. My 190D is back in business. Turns out I didn't need a radiator hose, a radiator (from my local Car Quest) did the job. Good thing too, the day after it was supposed to be delivered the Amazon seller finally admitted they didn't have the hose I'd ordered... I also put new brakes on the rear and thanks to Fred's speedy bleeder they work a treat. Tonight I figured I'd reward the old buggy with a new belly full of M1 5w40. I don't remember exactly how many miles we've gone, more than 10,000 but fewer than 20,000. I should have pulled a sample but I forgot. While I was there I replaced the valve cover gasket which has been cracked and leaking for awhile. That makes me feel good. Now I need to figure out the paint code and get a custom rattle can made up so I can fix a little topside rust and do a little welding under the jack points and it should be good for awhile. -Curt ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

we've been looking at another car for when the wifes econobox finally disintegrates (pushing 300K on her Corolla now!) and i'm seriously considering trying to find a nice W126 with another 617 in it. as for what to do when my aging R1150GS Adv finally croaks, i have no idea; the only other thing that really interests me is a big KTM, and i'm probably not going to be able to get one of those before they go all hypertechy with the new liter-plus version. cheers! e On 19/Jun/13 12:39, Dieselhead wrote: Yes, they knew what they were doing back then. So, my now totaled E300 is special and worth much more. I need to make a case for recouping appropriate value for the car against Nationwide. They are going to lowball an offer, so I can use all the aid in putting a value on the remains. Damage is to the left fender and suspension. Wheel is cocked and will require work to re-align and debugger. Front corner is crinkled, but shop says that slow and steady work to reshape the sheet metal would fix that instead of welding a new inner panel on and taking all the systems off to do that. I drove the car to the body shop, and they did offer the car for salvage purchase. Anybody need a nice car with 189k? They feel poorly, but you will never know it. They got all up in my face. it was my fault for not doing it all myself. I will use padding and blankets next time. I had the neighbor assist me last year and it came right off and on the cart with no trouble. He also helped put it on in the fall. Might be glazing. I looked at a few options like DR. Colorchip and ScratchWizard. Wizard uses something like the glazing to fill the scratch and has a solvent to wipe it off where it overflows. Then you do the same daub and blend as colorchip. Both offer color match based on factory code. I checked local body shop supply retailer and they will mix a pint for $100. Meant to be used with a gun, but I am told it will do an adequate job with a fine brush. I am sure the dealer can source a paint pen, or I can remove the ox harness and have it sprayed. 10 or 12 years ago, a friend, Tyndal, at lunch mentioned that he might buy a boat. Another, mutual friend, Larry, already had a boat that sat on a trailer in his back yard. I said to Tyndal, "Why don't you just buy half of Larry's boat? Then, you'll each have only half a boat sitting. If you buy another boat, you'll each have a whole boat sitting." He didn't follow my advice, though; Larry finally gave his boat to his son; Tyndal's whole boat still just sits. Re: [MBZ] 95 e300
Well, I know you have a yard full of old MB's that might yield parts but even so, I am not prepared to agree with you. I am currently working on a "free" boat that I got in the late summer of 2010. So far, I have about $500 in it in parts and no idea how much time and I have yet to have it in the water. I keep finding more things wrong with it. Most recent is that the trim won't go up. I don't need the boat and I just want to re-sell it but it has no value as it is unless I want to part it out and take the hull to the scrap dealer, which I am reluctant to do, because I like the boat. It has a nice shape to it and I think it would be a shame to destroy it. So, the bottom line, is that I will not really break even on this poor old boat but I will preserve it for a while. No such thing as a cheap boat either. Randy who cannot resist a "bargain" On 21/06/2013 2:56 PM, Kaleb C. It sure is nice to get an awesome buy like that every once in a while. The other day, I was able to get a radio controlled truck used for 50 bucks. It's worth about $100, and all it needed was a set of front Driveshafts to restore the four-wheel-drive for $15 and reprogramming the receiver so that it would brake and go into reverse. 10 minutes later, it was working as good as new. I figure having two strapping boys (idiots, it turns out) on hand I could just use them. I got the front unhooked and pulled the crank to release the rear latch, which freed the top for removal. Had the big boy on the street and the smaller one (13) at the kerb to allow it to be level going back toward the waiting cart. I told them to pull up and then hold it straight and stead, then to slowly advance along the rear to the cart. Smaller one decided to think, instead of act, and the larger moved faster than him, so the top is sitting an inch above the deck as they move, it twists and gouges out the paint on the smaller boy side. Abrasion on the larger child side at the fender edge to the trunk. Now it looks like a bear mauled the top cover. Claw marks go to the primer/base in some places and are almost six inches long. Anybody have a reasonably simple approach to repairing this? I am not looking for a pristine, body shop job. Just want to fill the gash level, then apply a coat of paint (DB 861) and mayhap some clear to keep the car from rusting. The car will get repainted at a much later date. clay So, did your boys feel bad about what happened? Would you do it different next time? (not trying to be mean - but could you have covered the area with a blanket/tarp/ etc?) As to repair - standard stuff I suppose, just fill with something and paint over it. The name escapes me but there is some sort of filler in a tube that is used to fill little imperfections prior to painting. Glazing compound or something like that? Think how much worse you would feel if this had happened after the new paint job.
