Re: [MBZ] take 3

2013-08-26 Thread Gary Hurst
i've tried to work with people in training. i've not found any good
partners or people on my ass. the best i ever had was when i hung out at
the gym and was the lame mascot to the bodybuilder types who dug the fact
that i was the only fat cripple they'd ever seen who was willing to try to
walk the walk. this was also a very unusually inclusive group who only
cared about sincerity. we even had a bona fide homeless schizophrenic!
(although no gays. somehow these guys went insane at the slightest hint of
gay)

if i had money, i could hire someone to ride my ass, but i don't. i get
really lazy. sometimes i'll train consistently for a month or two but then
i end up doing nothing for a month or two. sometimes i'm eating really
well and other times getting the all you can eat pancakes at midnight at
steak & shake. teh best way i can sum it up is to say i'm too into my own
relaxed comfort and am not serious about it. i'm not willing to accept
this as ok but i haven't changed it

two guys you probably know who really serve to inspire me are bob rentfro
and john gregor. i gotta get to doing it more like they do than just
admiring it from afar and saying "wow, that's great. i ought to do that!"

a lot of people dig it but it's just pain to me. there are many who think
it's the greatest thing ever written.

but it's easy to understand what i'm looking for. i like a good compelling
story. i like some nice songs. i like a few jokes. i'm the kinda guy who
wants to always be seeing don giovanni. or der rosenkavalier. i love der
rosenkalier and tend to dig richard strauss. but then something like
elektra will just turn me off for lack of jokes and pretty songs. the
jokes are big for me. for example, take donizetti. i love l'elisir d'amore
but take out the jokes and give me lucia di lammermoor and i'm unhappy

only verdi has the power to get over with me without the jokes!

2013-08-26 Thread Dieselhead
If I had a wagon, I'd be all over that. I was just thinking it'd be
nice to have a euro hitch for a 123 sedan.

Hi all,
I'm selling my '95 E320 wagon this week and debating if I should remove the
euro-spec trailer hitch I installed a few years ago. Its a real european
hitch I bought in Germany, with complete wiring harness. I believe its a
Westfalia brand and rated for either 1900 or 2100kg. I also have the
correct wiring harness which connects to the factory wiring without
modification. Overall, its a very nice hitch. Fixed european sized ball.
I always used a 2" coupler without a problem. Its only a few years old,
but does show some surface rust.

Anyone interested in it? I'm in Northern NJ and would rather not ship it.
Make me a offer that makes it worth my time to remove. Its a fairly
involved process, from what I remember I have to remove the carpeting off
the rear floor, and pull the wiring harness out the dashboard. I paid
something like EUR300 new, then had it shipped to the US.

Thanks,
Jaime

Hi all,
I'm selling my '95 E320 wagon this week and debating if I should remove the
euro-spec trailer hitch I installed a few years ago.

Thanks,
Jaime

2013-08-26 Thread Brian Toscano
With so many apps for "free calling" it seems harder to manage. Someone
calling on Skype? Google Voice? Your business phone? Cell phone? Text,
WhatsApp, etc.

Not to mention some people are genuinely hard to hear on Skype or Google
Voice. They will sit away from their computer's microphone sounding far
worse than a speakerphone. And does GV even allow SMS mesages these days?

I don't know, but it seems pretty straighforward to give someone a phone
number. With the advent of unlimted long distance calling, are 800 numbers
even that helpful anymore?

2013-08-26 Thread Scott Ritchey

I suspect Mike is just happy to be on the road again and doesn't want to
spend more money just to satisfy our curiosity. The fact is that MBZ IP
failures (when run on DF2) are so rare that we really know little about that
situation (hence we are curious). Also, some of us probably got a spare IP
back when they were cheap and plentiful and now wonder if long-term storage
rendered those old IPs useless. I guess we all just want to learn but Mike
shouldn't have to foot the bill.

By the way, the URL is: http://www.conestogadiesel.com/

Ship the pump to www,Conestoga diesel.com and ask Mel to run it on his test
bench. You will know in a short while and for a minimum cost what the pump
is doing.

A properly calibrated test bench is the proper way to test the pump. Then
you have the "whole story".

Re: [MBZ] On the road again! 1984 300D - Was Black smoke and loping at idle.

2013-08-26 Thread Richard Hattaway
My point was that you can do all of the fancy expensive stuff in your driveway
with minimal tools.

Pump timing is a piece of tubing and a flashlight.

Pump pressure is a spare injector and rerouting one of the pieces of injection
tubing in your car so you can watch the spray pattern in a jar.  Or you can use
one of your injectors if you don't have a spare, but please cover the open
cylinder with a heavy rag to keep soot out of your face.

You can also do a very good analysis of injectors with the the re-routed tube
and a jar with cardboard in it.

Thanks Mitch. That is how I understood it.
How far out of time can the injection pump be on one of these diesels and still start and idle well? It also ran down the road although poorly and without power. The mechanic had the vehicle running with each pump and diligently followed my suggestions of installing 180 degrees out and a couple of teeth either way. From these positions he adjusted it many times and could not get the vehicle to run properly. When he installed the new/rebuilt pump it started and ran correctl on the first try..

I would gladly ship one of the non-fumctioning pumps to anyone who wants to
test it out on one of their vehicles or other testing methods. I would love to
know without a doubt if the pump is functioning correctly. Any takers?

Before a bench test, a simple test of turning the engine over BY HAND
(not by starter as the mechanic did) with the valve cover off, and #1
injection line off. This would have allowed the mechanic and/or mike
to see if the pump was IN time or out of time. Sequence is intake
open and close, injection starts at the factory specified number of
