No inflation means you never get a raise...
If wood has only doubled in price in the last 20 years that's pretty good, look
at the price of cars...

So true! Bought them for a dollar 20 years ago. $2.00 now.
When the U.S. was on the real gold standard there was no inflation, but that
was around 80-100 years ago. I think Switzerland is still (sort of) on the gold
standard.

True, but it's "buying power" is never based on deliberate governmental
devalutation (inflation) like the dollar. Over time, the averaged price of gold
continues to increase in value. For example, the gold that a friend bought in
the 1980s is now worth four times what he paid for it, and at one time was
worth 6 times what he paid for it in US$.
Of course, the gold standard is an impractical system in the current, fast
moving, computerized world.

2015-11-10 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
I might point out, those dollars your friend paid for that gold is now
worth about 0.13 cents in real buying power. Adjusted against the dollars
buying power at the time of purchase.

Hard to keep such comparisons in a strictly "apples to apples" frame of
reference. But quite necessary when assessing real buying power of stored
investment gold.

The worldwide ponzi schemes of central banks AKA Federal Reserve have just
run out of fresh victims and ponzi... expect major crash in near future,
some have already crashed and been propped up in short term.. there is no
"reserve" to call on for long term left.

No inflation means you never "need" a raise. You might get a raise for various
reasons, but the dollar is always worth a fixed amount of gold and always has
the same buying power.

BTW: What are you and Don going to do with the $1000 Volkswagen is sending you?

They dumped classic icons and went South Beach, flat pastel cartoon. Looks
like something from Toontown for Miami Hotwives. The install was very simple.
Took forever for the download, but I had the install screen there when I woke
up. Poke the install button and away it went. The whole feel is simplistic
and very one button. The same look and feel interface as with the iPhones and
iPads for configuration, as well as execution. It also hooks deeply into
iCloud and synching all your Apple products together. That way you can answer
you phone on the computer, phone or ipad. Or move from one to the next as
needed.

The slow degradation of options and locking away of user meddling for usability
sake sort of sucks. Out of box functionality is slick, so a non tech would
have no issues or distractions diving right in. A bit too much like the Benz
ethos of hiding all the new things under slick wrapping and keeping the user
from being able to swing a wrench without having all the official parts and
diagnostic tool kits.

Very true, the meat is tucked out of view of most users. The dumbing down

I'm guessing a repaint. It looks like the car a woman I know was
selling a few years ago, she and her husband had lots of diesels and had
a CD for awhile then decided to sell it. They had done some work on it,
not sure if they had it repainted or not but it did look like a respray,
same color as this one and too shiny too. But they did come in red I
think, I have seen others around.

There's an awesome apple tree in my front yard planted by a PO in 1982.

Tree is not much to look at but the fruits are numerous and totally free of
disease, although they look mottled and streaked red/black. Taste is
tart-sweet, crisp skin, small sized. I went to applename.com and it seems
to be a Virginia winesap. I made applesauce on the stove (cored but
unpeeled) and then blended it in the Blendtec - voila - pink applesauce.
:) Also, some apple-mint jelly that has deep flavor and is quite unusual
(not sure I like it).

The winesap is not supposed to be self fruitful but my tree has nothing to
pollinate it yet was lousy with fruit.

Red Winesap is one of the older varieties, tracing back to Yurp as
sops of wine. It is a hardy variety that will survive with little or
no care/spray. They will tend to have a lot of apples if not
thinned. There may be enough pollinators around to do the job. They
don't have to be within sight. Flowering crabs abound in suburbia,
and will do the job.

There is a flowering crab up the street a few hundred yards, come to think
of it. Should I thin the fruit next season to get larger apples?

Terminal is still there, and the underlying OS kernel is still
readily accessible for those who wish to tinker or modify.

TO get the free download can you download and not install, or does it
install on the machine you download from?

I'd like to get the copy, but I don't want to risk bricking an older
machine if it goes south. I want to sit on it a while to do more
research on performance with old intel machines.

Probably needs a glow plug fuse or relay. Might be worth a lowball offer.
