Very first thing to do is go to an E.N.T. (ear, nose, and throat) MD or DO like
your sister does in order to rule out serious causes like a tumour and to get
the ear wax removed professionally.
If that doesn't fix it, you might have non-specific hearing loss and need a
hearing aid like millions of other people do when they hit middle age or older.
The doc might send you to get a hearing test if that is the case, but don't let
the tester talk you into getting a hearing aid "yet". Selling hearing aids has
become such a racket, there is currently legislation before congress to
separate the "audiologists" (who do the hearing tests) from the hearing aid
sellers. If that legislation passes, you will go to a professional licensced
audiologist and get a prescription just like you get a drug prescription from a
regular doctor. Then you can buy a hearing aide(s) from any seller; even
online. If you can't wait for the legislation, the first place to try hearing
aids is Costco which has a variety of good brands at much lower prices.
There is a "lot" more information about available hearing aids; some as low as
a few hundred dollars. After you see the EENT post the results here and we can
go from there. If you're interested in the nitty-gritty, here is a website(s):

No, you have to make California happy or you won’t get a pink slip. No pink
slip, no title. I had to deal with this on my former 62 300SE. Granted, it was
a very different situation, but CA was enough of a PITA that I had to wash the
title through Alabama to get a clear title to the car.

Since this is a running example, the paperwork should be in order.

Wow. Back in the 90's my father flew out to San Diego and met me, and I
helped him by a nice old MB. I think it was a 1969 220S? Straight six
with two carbs, just a nice clean rust-free survivor, all original. I
located a set of used seatbelts from an independent MB garage, we installed
those and change the oil, and commenced driving back to WI. I don't
remember any difficulty at all with the paperwork.

Where are you next registering it? If in WA, for example, there's a particular
form for seller and buyer to sign in order for the State to accept what you
actually
paid. Otherwise they look at the Blue Book, and not the car. Certainly
they don't care about anything trivial like a bill of sale, or a receipt!

That's a particularly nasty trick when you're buying at the parts-car end of
the scale, perhaps it won't really apply to you?

I’m in AZ. From what Dan told me it sounds like the current owner has to get
the vehicle current on its registration. In this case, it’s fines of about
$600. Then they are able to put the paperwork in for a duplicate pink slip.
Once I get a pink slip, they sign it over to me and I bring it back to AZ.

Not only that, but you’ll save about $250 buying direct from him. Reinvent the

2019-02-22 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Wow I need exactly this for mine.

I've been thinking about trying to reverse engineer the system and
use something like a Raspberry Pi to control it -- but $335 sounds
well worth it, if it works.

I also need a new blower motor -- mine keeps blowing fuses. It only runs
on "HI DEFROST" due to the failed control system. I've tried lubricating
it but hasn't helped. Unless there is NOS available anywhere I'm
guessing most salvage motors would not be much better. I'm hoping I can
fit a standard 12v motor from somewhere but haven't started researching
that.

When we were rebuilding a 55 chevy in our backyard in Riyadh, we got lots

Allan,

There is a retrofit kit for a larger strip fuse for the W123 blowers if yours
hasn’t already been updated. It’s a wiring harness with an external fuse holder
that was used to bypass the original 16 amp fuse in the fuse box. Last one I
bought a couple years ago was under $20 from the dealer.

126 540 30 13 is the part number. Around $20.

This whole thing is getting sketchier by the minute. California DMV says, using
the information the seller provided to me, that I should run away cause the

Look at his eBay page that I posted. His eBay handle is “Selo114”, I believe.

It’s the padded part of the dash, complete.

There are guys in SoCal who “restore” dashes. I mentioned them, too. 6 months
lead time and $1600 for the dash pad. Thanks, I’ll pass.

Re: [MBZ] Who is in CA...Paperwork

2019-02-22 Thread Dan--- via Mercedes
Bob,

This is far simpler than it appears on the surface.

Junior can no more sell that car to you or anyone else (especially a
Californian) without a valid pink slip. Whether Mom finds paperwork or not,
they’re going to have to make a trip to the DMV and get things sorted if they
have any intention of selling the car, unless it’s to someone from out of state
who would be dumb enough to just take a bill of sale for it (present company
excepted, of course.)

Anyone who buys a car in CA that doesn’t get a clear title and current pink
slip deserves what they get. CA is nothing short of a nightmare when it comes
to registering and titling cars, and they have the willingness to cooperate of
a petulant five year old when it comes to sorting things out.

Cheap shipping == slow.

Amazon's free shipping takes forever, too, but that's because they don't
immediately send the package on its way -- they wait until the package
will arrive at the outer limit of their estimated shipping time.

Bob,

https://images.craigslist.org/00X0X_3Ig6oq6XGc8_1200x900.jpg shows the
vent on the top of the valve cover going to the fancy catch can.

The attached photo shows where the line is supposed to go.

Have you asked the seller why he has added the fancy catch can? Was it to
solve some problem the car had?

Others, IIRC, have said the pressure turbo wastegate was an improvement.
I don't recall their arguments so I cannot explain how it is an
improvement.

Cheap shipping == slow.

Amazon's free shipping takes forever, too, but that's because they don't
immediately send the package on its way -- they wait until the package
will arrive at the outer limit of their estimated shipping time.

WHY DOES CLICKING REPLY ON CURT'S EMAIL SEND THE REPLY ONLY TO HIM?!

Let's see if I can include the List this time, too ...

When Amazon says, "Shipping takes 5 - 10 days," it WILL take 10 days.
They will wait to ship until the arrival time is 10 days after you place

That color annoys me, too. Clearcoat peeling annoys me, too.

But both of the E300D/2.5 Turbos I have had have been in that condition.

The $700 price tag of the second one, along with its seemingly good
condition are what led me to buy it.

That one looks like and worth the money but the catch can thing would be
questionable. Might be because they thought it was some sort of improvement.
Pull the oil cap and see how much blowby it has. Should be very little. Try to
get it for $2k.

GET THE CURRENT OWNER TO go to another state, get an address (from a
relative or friend) and register it in that state.  That way he can
avoid the fines.  Also, the fines should accrue only after it was in his
possession, since the great grampa has passed on, he is no longer liable
for back registration. BUT it IS kollyfonia, so they may insist on
extracting cash from the dead.

I’m in AZ. From what Dan told me it sounds like the current owner has to get
the vehicle current on its registration. In this case, it’s fines of about
$600. Then they are able to put the paperwork in for a duplicate pink slip.
Once I get a pink slip, they sign it over to me and I bring it back to AZ.

Re: [MBZ] Who is in CA...Paperwork

2019-02-22 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
That’s exactly what they’ll do. If the registration isn’t current and they
can’t dig Grandpa up to sign the pink slip, or have power of attorney for him,
California will get its pound of flesh out of them long before they’ll ever get
clear (CA) title to the car.

You would think that Californians would do everything they can to keep stuff
current to avoid such issues, but the exact opposite is true, or so I’ve found.
Their registration and title laws are so oppressive people do everything they
can to dodge them.

When I got the 62 300SE it was in an estate. The attorneys had power of
attorney for the former owner, but wouldn’t sign the pink slip because they
would be on the hook for four years of non-operation registration fees. They
pretty much told me to p*ss off when I asked for the pink slip.

I tried slipping the bill of sale thing past Florida, but they’re no dummies -
the DMVs talk to each other. And this was in 1999, so it’s probably even worse
now. Bill Wachsmuth tried helping me out and was able to determine that CA
would have to get roughly $2k out of me for non-op fees, fines and penalties
that were the responsibility of the owner or his estate if I wanted clear title
to the car. And I had to do it in person, or with someone designated as my
legal representative.

BS.

I did some research and found some companies in AL that washed titles. I sent
them a bill of sale selling the car to them for $1 with a cashier’s check for
around $500 (I think) overnight and two days later I got a fully executed AL
title signed over to me. Took it to the FL DMV and I was out the door in a
matter of minutes with a fully executed Florida title in my name.

Re: [MBZ] Finnie Fun

2019-02-22 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Not sure. I watch US eBay, but there is a lot of stuff on German eBay as well.
I would really like to find a good taillight and upper bumper on that side, as
both are pretty well shot as far as the plating. The bumper is in very good
physical condition, so it’s definitely a candidate for replating, but that’s
time consuming. I paid $150 for the left one from a German supplier, but he
didn’t have any right side ones. That’s about what it would cost to have it
replated.

A lot of goodies for these cars on German eBay. The only problem is finding
sellers who will ship overseas.

Thats pretty cool, but I would be leery of an M110 with that kind of miles on
it. I’m guessing that’s what’s in it since there are no underhood shots.
