The DM always has lots of pictures in their postings.  They can be a bit
sensational sometimes in the reporting but the pics sorta speak for
themselves.

Interesting that one has to go to a web site in England to find
information about tornadoes in the midwest U.S.

Re: [MBZ] Plugging Tires

2019-05-23 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
I discovered the glue trick when I rented a back hoe with 18 ply tires,
during a building tear down. Managed to collect 16 nails in one tire, less
in the other 3, so, by mid afternoon, I had a rented reach backhoe with 4
flat tires [big ones] and rendered un-serviceable.
Rental contract said, I would be charged for picking up the tractor with
flat tires [$$ expensive pickup] So, I went to FLAPS and stocked up on
plug materials, pulled nails, plugged the tires, had a job air compressor
to air them up. It worked, back in business in about 1 hr. I clipped the
plug part sticking out of the tires and when rental was collected, it drove
onto their delivery truck, rental company never complained, so saved my
bacon. Tire pressure on the backhoe was 90 psi, so if it was going to leak,
it would have.

Saturday we got the state inspection, Tuesday I got the state tag - so we
are official! Now the "new" car troubleshooting period begins.

Re: [MBZ] And Another ML Question...

I just ordered a pair of the RH thread ends, about $7/each. Rather than pop
$40+ for the whole rod, I’ll find some threaded rod at my local Ace Hardware
and make one up to measure.

Fortunately, the EPC does designate whether they’re RH or LH thread.

Thanks again for the suggestion!

2019-05-23 Thread MG via Mercedes
On my spare the adjustment range is a minimum
of 3" to a max of 4" with about 5mm in the
bore. I don't see any numbers on the parts
themselves but there is a small stamp in each
R or L respectively. The one you want with
the right hand thread is 123 328 00 63. The
threads are the size that use a nut with the
10mm wrench size.

If I knew which one was right hand thread I would just buy two of them and get
some threaded rod to make one the right length.

Thanks!

This car has xenon headlights. A part of this system is two level sensors, one
at the front and one at the rear. The sensor is bolted to the vehicle frame and
a lever on the sensor, using much like a sway bar link, is connected to the
lower control arm at that location.
I found the rear sensor disconnected at the right rear sway bar, the clip that
held it in place missing. Easy enough to resolve.
While working under the car last night, I found the front sensor on the right
front suspension with a broken bracket where it attaches to the lower control
arm. I removed the connecting link and discovered that the ball joint on the
bottom end was completely frozen in place. I soaked it with some Kroil and
found when it came loose that the socket was completely destroyed by corrosion
and the only thing holding the ball in place was the remains of the rubber boot.
The connecting link is about 4”-5” long, with a ball joint at each end with a
threaded stud that’s maybe an M6 or M8 thread on it. The part from MB
iswait for it...$235.00
Yeah, I don’t think so.
So I’m wondering if anyone might know a source for something like this?

Your technique is OK with a brand new master cylinder but an old master
cylinder will be rough beyond the range routinely wiped by the piston. That
rough area will often ruin the seal.
