whatnot to the house "on a regular schedule". Before I knew it we were up to
our asses in cleaning supplies and 1 ply toilet paper. In about October I gave
her hell for it, we had 3 big boxes of crap she hadn't even opened. There are
only two of us and besides which who goes through 2 bottles of toilet bowl
cleaner a month?
Yesterday I found the last box and to my surprise its got 8 rolls of TP, 4
boxes of tissues, 1 box of wipes, 1 bottle of spray cleaner, 2 bottles of
toilet cleaner and lip balm. I guess you don't want to have chapped lips while

Doctor recovering from COVID-19 reveals HIV drugs treatment, willing to donate
plasma

Less than half a month after recovering from novel coronavirus pneumonia, Wang
Guangfa, a leading Chinese respiratory expert at Peking University First
Hospital in Beijing, was back in the fight against the epidemic.

Under the recommendation of his doctor, Wang attempted HIV drugs that combines
lopinavir with a low dose of ritonavir to fight against the novel coronavirus.
The treatment was a success. With mild symptoms, Wang's fever went down after
only two days at the hospital.

"In the initial media interviews after my discharge, I was hesitant to disclose
the name of the drug I was using to the public for fear that it would be
misleading as the drug had not yet been proven by researchers to work on every
patient," Wang told the Global Times. "I do not encourage the patients to use
drugs blindly over the fear that adverse reactions of drugs may further damage
patients' health when the efficacy is unknown."

"But soon I was thinking that disclosing the drugs might give medical
researchers a new treatment idea and give other patients more options and
higher chance to combat the deadly coronavirus," he said.

After Wang's successful case, many Chinese drug research teams started
repurposing the HIV drug in treatment of the novel coronavirus. Existing
HIV/AIDS medication has now been widely used in clinical treatment for infected
patients.(snip)

Re: [MBZ] Rescue Critters: was Ok y’all **it just got real

2020-03-16 Thread Scott Ritchey via Mercedes
All spayed/neutered and have first two rabies shots (except one wild one still
needs second shot). Local vet did neutering free (only paid for shots).
Unfortunately, all but two turned out to be females (at about $100/spay).
A local animal welfare group relocates adoptable cats and dogs from local
shelter to northern states where they are in short supply. Kill rate at county
shelter went from about 90% to 10%.

Have you been able to catch them and get them spayed and neutered? Around here
the animal groups will do that for free on feral cats then you can release them
again to do their business without multiplying.

This is just sorta acknowledging the practical aspects of things.  There
won't be enough resources to treat them anyway, so might as well just
let it burn out.

I sent links to 2 podcasts, I am listening to the first one now. Scary
stuff but reality.  The virologist suggests that a 1-2% fatality rate
(much higher now in Italy) would result in 100-150mil deaths on the
planet as this thing keeps spreading.

I'm still trying to get my head around the reason for the extreme reactions
to COVID-19 vs. H1N1 back in 2009.

Here in the US of A, H1N1 Swine flu caused 60.8 million illnesses, 273,304
hospitalizations, and 12,469 deaths. Over 200,000 probably died worldwide.
Does anyone remember sealing off our borders, cancellation of all sporting
events and concerts, stock market crash?

The H1N1 flu primarily affected children and adults under 65. COVID-19
affects the almost the mirror image, those above 70; or those with
underlying health conditions. Which age group is more important to our
economy? No judgement here, but I'll bet that most economists would say
that deaths and illness among the working age and future working age
populations will have a greater impact on GDP than those retired in their
70s - 80s - 90s. No stock market crash, no panic. Barrack Hussein Obama
was playing golf on the day his admin declared a national emergency.
Congress under Democrat control was focused on passing Obama-care.

China, where they completely botched their initial reaction by hiding the
evidence and ignoring the threat for 2 or 3 months, allowing it to spread
far and wide not only in their country but across the globe, has only lost a
couple thousand people (if you believe their numbers) and the number of new
cases is leveling off. America is in a much stronger position than China,
why the hell are we in such a panic?

I think we are being played.

This should attract some serious interest, unless bidders need to

Maple yellow and in amazing shape. I love the Becker Mexico cassette,
assuming the wonder bar works properly..

This should attract some serious interest, unless bidders need to
sell stock to finance their classic car hobby.

As for your second issue, a lot of times I’ve found that the seller has sold
the item and didn’t keep the confirmation email from CL that has the link to
manage the listing.

If you don’t have a CL account, it’s a one shot thing. Lose or misplace the
confirmation email and you can’t access the post to manage it.

[MBZ] Two Annoying Things That Have Nothing to Do With The World’s Current SHITshow

2020-03-16 Thread Bob Rentfro via Mercedes
I have been going to discount tire for decades. Typically, when I get a new to
me vehicle, I’ll take it down there and they will rotate and balance for free
knowing that I have a solid history of buying tires from them over the last two
decades.
Today I took the 2014 Passat TDI down to them for its first rotate/balance. The
guy took the information and entered it into his computer and then promptly
asked me if I wanted to pay $4 for one day to have the tires balanced or $64
for the lifetime of the tires to have them balanced. He said it’s something
that they started at the beginning of the year for tires that were not bought a
discount. Annoying.
Second annoying thing to me these days is people who will not answer their
email about a craigslist ad, especially when they don’t give you a phone number
to call. I had Kaleb give me a Carfax for a 99ML320 that looked promising. The
Carfax shows that it was well serviced over its life. I’ve been trying to get a
hold of the guy for 17 days with no luck. Annoying.

Plenty of room to work without jacking the engine. I was going to do motor

Definitely needed. The car idles so smoothly it’s amazing.

Dummy me - I had bought a box of Bosch plugs (10) for the job, not paying
attention to the quantity. Had to run out to FLAPS and buy two more plugs
 - luckily they had them in stock. Counter guy was puzzled. “Why you want

Plugs on the M112/3 are required about every 75k-100k. I have service records
on this car, so I knew it was due, as well as having looked at one and seen
that the electrode was pretty worn.

While I expected a difference, more in mileage than actual running, I was
surprised at how much smoother the idle is since the change.

Re: [MBZ] Rescue Critters: was Ok y’all **it just got real

2020-03-16 Thread dan--- via Mercedes
Our Country animal shelter is transitioning to a no-kill shelter, and part of
the process involving feral cats is capture, spay/neuter and release. They
notch the cat’s ear when this is done so they can be identified.

It’s working pretty well. Their euthanasia numbers have gone down
significantly. The worst part is people bringing in kittens that are not
weaned. Those have to be fostered or they’re euthanized.

Ya think?
Unfortunately, if/when we are in a recession because of the reaction (or
overreaction) to this viral outbreak, a lot of people are going to suffer.

BTW, Britain is following the exact opposite tack (tac?) They are letting the
virus go uninhibited, so that they can get a "herd immunity" and not have
annual outbreaks every year. Time will tell.

I'm still trying to get my head around the reason for the extreme reactions
to COVID-19 vs. H1N1 back in 2009.

Here in the US of A, H1N1 Swine flu caused 60.8 million illnesses, 273,304
hospitalizations, and 12,469 deaths. Over 200,000 probably died
worldwide. Does anyone remember sealing off our borders, cancellation of
all sporting events and concerts, stock market crash?

The H1N1 flu primarily affected children and adults under 65. COVID-19
affects the almost the mirror image, those above 70; or those with
underlying health conditions. Which age group is more important to our
economy? No judgement here, but I'll bet that most economists would say
that deaths and illness among the working age and future working age
populations will have a greater impact on GDP than those retired in their
70s - 80s - 90s. No stock market crash, no panic. Barrack Hussein Obama
was playing golf on the day his admin declared a national emergency.
Congress under Democrat control was focused on passing Obama-care.

China, where they completely botched their initial reaction by hiding the
evidence and ignoring the threat for 2 or 3 months, allowing it to spread
far and wide not only in their country but across the globe, has only lost
a couple thousand people (if you believe their numbers) and the number of
new cases is leveling off. America is in a much stronger position than
China, why the hell are we in such a panic?

I think we are being played.

[MBZ] S210 Spark Plugs

2020-03-16 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Did the plugs on the 1998 wagon yesterday. Piece of cake, took me under an hour
total. I was thinking it was worse, probably because the last spark plug job I
did was on the ML500 with the M113, which is very tight in spots.

Plenty of room to work without jacking the engine. I was going to do motor
mounts at the same time but didn’t as I just didn’t want to take that much on.

Definitely needed. The car idles so smoothly it’s amazing.
