> So, what is the whole story? Do you have an unfriendly nosey neighbour who complained to someone in authority? Who even knew the tire was low and the battery dead? Actually Randy, no. All of my neighbors are very cool with the live and let live philosophy. I keep my property up, however I drive older, rust belt cars. Some can be quite unattractive at times, but are mechanically sound. The code enforcement officer in my town hasn't been able to enforce much in the last eighteen months because of the government reaction to a virus. So, eighteen months of pent up overzealous enforcement has been unleashed. As I stated earlier, I procrastinated on getting plates, and that was the primary cause. The mail is slow however, and they arrived today, after the cars were gone. They are and were technically legal. Without running the plate, the officer on hand wouldn't know that. My son informed him they were legal, but Barney Fife wouldn't have it. I am grateful I was not home. The situation would have escalated very quickly. I am off for the next three months. Target one on my mission list is the only emissions standard in the state of Indiana. Never underestimate the power of an extremely passionate man, with too much time on his hands. I will probably take the city to small claims court. And as a matter of fact I did have a truck towed and crushed before I could get it back about twenty years ago. Granted, it was inoperable (2.8 v6 gmc with a failed intake manifold gasket), but I purchased it new, and had it rustproofed. It was very clean. Re: [MBZ] I’ll be moving…
I have a few reasons why we want to sell the Sprinter. First, we are once again without a driver, and I don’t want to have to pay extra to have it shipped. Second, it’s primary use is just putting around town to here and there, lots of idling and stop and go, none of which are good for a Diesel engine and even worse for a modern one with DEF/DPF and EGR. Third, we could use the money for moving expenses since we’ll have to pay for storage for our stuff so the house can be staged properly and sold quickly. Once we get settled into the new place, I can spend a LOT less money on maybe an older Sprinter Sent from my iPhone > On Jul 29, 2021, at 5:39 AM, Meade Dillon via Mercedes > wrote: > > Good luck with the sale and move! Re: [MBZ] MBZ charging for software subscriptions
I think the day is coming where we will no longer own cars, you will license/lease them, with various options and features enabled or disabled, just like software. Used cars as we know them today won't exist. You'll simply return the car to the dealer and they will reset the options and relicense it to the next tenant. The other model will be short-term rentals (hours/days) for people who only need a car occasionally. Most people won't care, to them a car is a monthly payment either way. Re: [MBZ] Temptation 93 300CE $2200
"Not more than a few minutes without overheating" speaks loudly of a blown head gasket and intrusion of combustion gasses into the cooling system... cooling system holds about 16 psi... compression gases make 140 +- at 400 F, so compression blows into coolant and makes it hot, quickly. Quick check, Open coolant tank, start engine, look for bubbles and surging of coolant as cylinder pressure pushes out. If it does, head gasket is leaking. I loathe software subscriptions. Unfortunately my employer loves them... As Tom Petty wrote "As we celebrate mediocrity all the boys upstairs want to see. For the first time, I respect MBUSA more than I respect DBAG. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-rvOAGT6mw The electric sedan already has the necessary hardware for this feature, but it's blocked by the software. Rear-wheel steering isn't a new technology as it has been around for decades, with the Nissan R31 Skyline pioneering the system back in 1985. That said, Mercedes has managed to take it to a whole new level with its flagship combustion and electric cars, as the latest S-Class and EQS boast the most advanced version ever fitted to a production vehicle. On the EQS, the rear wheels have a standard steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees, but in other markets, it comes with an optional feature increasing the angle to 10 degrees – this advanced tech is actually standard on the US-market car, however. In the case of the EV, the turning circle drops to 10.9 meters (35.7 feet), which is mighty impressive for such a large car. It turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the front wheels at speeds of up to 60 km/h (37 mph) to reduce the turning circle. Above that velocity, all four wheels turn in the same direction to improve stability and sharpen up handling. How does it work? According to Mercedes: "An electric motor drives a spindle at the rear axle via a drive belt. This makes axial adjustments to the spindle." The more advanced setup is offered as standard equipment in the United States, but at home in Germany, the EQS comes fitted with the lesser configuration of RWS. You can have 10-degree steering as an optional feature when ordering the car, and Mercedes is providing another way to gain access to the tech even after taking delivery of the fullsize electric sedan. With cars becoming rolling computers, Mercedes is cramming more and more tech while providing support for over-the-air updates. The EQS is a relevant example as owners can activate the 10-degree rear-wheel steering post-purchase courtesy of an OTA update. It effectively means the vehicle has this feature from the get-go, but it's blocked by the software. Unlocking it costs €489 (about $575) annually, but if you get a three-year subscription, you'll get a €300 ($353) discount by paying only €1,169 ($1,376). Ordering the more sophisticated steering system requires the parking package with a 360-degree camera, as it's the case with the S-Class. Interestingly, the tech can't be had if the car is running on mixed tires, which isn't the case for EQS as only its combustion-engined equivalent uses that type of rubber.
