[MBZ] OT: A little game

2023-09-23 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Let's play "Where is Curt this time?"
First hint:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/HJWDHrERCg4wiYL77
It's my second work trip since Feb 2020 and the first that was actually
planned. A hint might be that I've never been here before but there are an
awful lot of places I could say that about.
Now that I think of it I probably told Fred and Dwight about it a couple weeks
ago. We'll see if they remember.

Yes main battery is the first thing to check. These newer cars are EXTREMELY
sensitive to battery voltage. Next (or maybe first since it’s easy) thing is
check the key battery.

The first thought is the battery. EIS likely locks the steering column with a
solenoid, so no power, no unlock. The battery could have enough juice to run
the radio but not the rest of the car. Once voltage falls below a certain point
stuff either gets wonky or just doesn’t work.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Fairly new to us 2013 Mercedes C300. Son purchased a couple of months ago.
About 150,000 miles on it.
Not sure why but it will not turn over. He parked it at the mall and when he
came out it would not fire up. Steering wheel is in lock position and turned
to the far right and does not unlock when key is turned. Is the steering lock
supposed to release with key or when the car starts? The key turns all the way
in the ignition but there is zero response, no clicks or sounds. The battery
seems to be working as the radio works normally.
Any thoughts about what we might check or trouble shoot before we call the tow

Separate axes. Hard or flexible, a line _could_ be made with a collar fitting.
For brakes, the flexible lines screw in directly. But, they _could_ be made to
have collars that came apart without bodily unscrewing the whole flexible line,
like LP flexible lines do, and I believe like the flexible lines on my Unimog's
HIAB crane. (And like hard brake lines.)

It's an engineering choice, and not inherent.

Because it’s easier to route them around stuff and run them through tight
places where you couldn’t “thread” a hard line.

Think about this:

You take a cylinder off that has a flexible hose that goes back to the pump.
You have to get the whole hose out of the car to get the cylinder out.

With hard lines, there would be a fitting at the cylinder you would unscrew and
the cylinder comes right out.

Depends which tractor, my Super M, you're right. Well, mostly anyway, there are
a couple big beams bolted to the engine as reinforcements but most of the
strength is the engine itself.

My 1928 Farmall Regular has 2 big old I beams that the engine and transmission
are bolted to.

I've seen that on lots of vehicles and never thought about it. Possibly a
throwback to older times?

My Farmall has a loop in the fuel line. That line is copper and makes about a
6" 360 just after the tank. I'm told that if you don't do that the vibrations
will break the tubing in short order. That 4cyl engine is pretty smooth but
hard mounted to the frame...

I didn’t look at this, but I can tell you that R’ing cylinders on the later
SLs (R170, etc.) is not a fun job. On the R129 removing all of the cylinders
and locks takes a good 8-hour day.

In the later models, they went to flexible hoses between a lot of the
components rather than hard lines, like in the R129. As a result, you have to
remove the better part of the rear compartment paneling which is a challenge.

I noticed that on the photo of the engine bay, the brake lines from the master
cylinder are both coiled up like they are too long. Did the factory just not
cut the lines to the proper length, or are they not original, or was that done
intentionally to absorb vibration/reduce strain at the connections?

That's quite similar to the car I learned to drive in, which was an early
1980's Buick Regal.

"Needs two hydraulic cylinder’s for convertible top to operate as intended."

Is that not quite a glossing over of a complicated expensive job?

With that and despite the miles, with the rebuilt title and butchered
suspension, I don't see the justification for the price. Good color and looks
nice, although the wheels are a tad too much IMO.

[MBZ] 2001 E320 - 152k miles - $3,000

Should have some life left at that mileage, price is too high though. Having
needed that amount of work seems unusual for a W210? Maybe it's a lemon.

It’s actualy pretty cool, I think, and the price doesn’t seem bad considering

Is it me, or does that seem like a really fancy Lemons? The ones I’ve been to
are a lot more, uh, shall we say, casual? There were some pretty fancy cars
there.

I have a friend and coworker who used to participate in these, and they were a
blast!

Re: [MBZ] Actual fuel economy on a 2014 E250 BlueTEC

2023-09-23 Thread MG via Mercedes
That is my thought because I have gotten 30.2 mpg
overall on the 2020 6cyl Tacoma several times for
a 100 mile trip that includes city traffic at one
end for over 20 miles. Not very believable when
the actual calculated overall mileage since new is
24.96 taking into account all the driving and gas
put in while the computer shows something around
26. Our driving with it is 80% highway and 20 in city.

Interesting but relying upon the computer to calculate mileage likely is
not quite so accurate as the old way where you do the manual calculations.
