I'm wondering the same thing, for probably the same reason as Loren...

I'd say a running engine with head installed is worth more. Took me a full day
to pull the head off my wagon, that's lost labor. I'll bet one could pull an
engine-transmission faster than pulling just the head.

Other than the turbo (oil lines) and exhaust manifold, the other issue us
pulling the pins for the chain rail. You also need the special tool for the
head bolts, and the loosening sequence for the cam shaft is also important. A
hoist is needed to remove and place the head.

Various other bits need to come off: fuel filter canister, fuel heater, chain
tensioning device, more I'm forgetting.

Well, I'm thinking about selling, and I thought maybe with the going
price for a good #22 603 head being $1K+ on fleaBay, I could part the
car out rather than sell it whole, and not have to deal with
Craigslist lookie-loos.

But you guys have convinced me that it's too much physical effort.

As to what's wrong with the car, I think I'll start another thread and
see if I can pique any potential buyers' interest.

If there is nothing wrong with the 14 head now, chances are it will be
just fine as long as you do not overheat it. They dont generally just

fail will have already failed. I have had many #14 cars with no problems.

Re: [MBZ] #22 head?

2008-11-02 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin
yea, I threw it in my garage. Im going to have it rebuilt eventually
though. There is not a thing wrong with rebuilt #14 heads if a shop
that knows what they are doing does it. There is one in I think TN that
rebuilds them.

If there is nothing wrong with the 14 head now, chances are it will be
just fine as long as you do not overheat it. They dont generally just
blow on their own unless you overheat it. By now most that are going
to fail will have already failed. I have had many #14 cars with no
problems.

why do you need one of those? I have one but Im not looking to sell it.
If I did sell it, it would probably be expensive.
