Re: [MBZ] 107 visor
Bud's Benz says he has them made for them. $25 a pair. That is good to know. The other secret is to remove the screw in the visor, then turn the rod so the ball faces down, then the rod can be pulled out to release the tab. I was able to bend the tension tab a bit so the screw will keep tension on the ball. I am still going to do a Catheyesque popcan and shoogoo repair on this one. Afterwards, I will reinforce it with copper wire. I will let y'all know how it works. I think George Murphy of MBCA sells the clips. His home-based company is Performance Analysis but I don't think he has a web presence for it. He may sell them, but he doesn't make them. I don't know quite where ours came from, as Jill was so mightily pissed at the sunvisor situation that _she_ ordered the things! About $50, IIRC, probably off of eBay BIN. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Passenger visor on 85 380SL. The last time the little left tab broke off, I glued the two pieces together, and supported the joint with copper wire through tiny holes as reinforcement. Now the wires pulled out. I am not going to spend the $700 for a visor, so I thought I'd just take off the visor. That is not simple either. when I unscrew the pivot, the little plastic piece does not come out, even with pulling on the visor. If I got it out, there is still the problem of the wiring for the lighted mirror Anyone ever had this apart? I think If I pull the center mirror, then I can remove the window trim at the top of the windshield. then maybe have access to the wire. Is there another screw (or more) hidden by the trim? Perhaps the exposed screw is only for adjusting the tension? That is another problem the visor is floppy and won't tighten up, and that puts stess on the little tab that breaks and costs a $700 visor. If I can get the visor out, I think I can add some shim to tighten the visor. if it were tight, maybe the little tab is something you could live without. With the parts inflation of the past few years, I suppose a visor is now $1000 or $1200. Too bad the clip doesn't screw on the windshield frame and snap onto the visor like most cars (123). Then I could just rob a a clip from a 123, or even spend a couple bucks to buy a new one If I can fix the pivot, I am thinking about reinforcing the tab with some pop can aluminum shoo-gooed to it with some additional copper wire support. I saw on a forum that Bud;s SL shop supposedly has some fix for this. Maybe I should call them tomorrow. In the meantime, I will be happy if I can just take it OFF. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] 107 visor
Well, this one is 26 years old, and is brittle. I'd rather do a Catheyesque repair on this one. I don't have time to wait for a new tab. Best repair I've had is to melt the two pieces back together using a plastic welding rig. But it doesn't hold forever, and it's a bit oogly. -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] 107 visor
I planned to call Bud's in the morning. They are reputed to have some repair for it. That might be the new tab. Well, this one is 26 years old, and is brittle. The little male tabs are available new, from some aftermarket supplier. Expensive for what they are, but they're priced according to what the market will bear. I've bought them for the 380. You have to get the visor off (which you figured out how to do), loosen the tension screw a bit, flip the visor 180 degrees from its normal orientation on the post, which you can't do with the visor on the car, and slide the post out of the visor. Thus releasing the broken tab. Replace new tab, and reverse to reinstall. Do NOT mess up that tension screw, and do NOT force anything! You Have Been Warned! The plastic needs no reinforcing, not until it gets old and brittle.

[MBZ] 107 Visor
Well, I got the visor off. The trick is to yank the mirror off. (not easy with the short stub on this model.) I assisted with a screwdriver, so have to clean up the mount and then paint it flat black again. Once the mirror is off, you can take off the base and the screws for the trim. the trim is glued up with black rubber slue that stretches and strings better then good Mozzarella cheese. With the trim loose you can unplug the light, then the visor wire, then take off the grounding screw for the visor, then remove the two outer screws on the visor mount. The smaller screw in the middle of the visor mount is the tensioning screw. Now "all" I have to do is figure out how to add tension to the pivot ball when the little screw is out of adjustment, and how to repair the visor tab that caused all this mess. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
