I agree completely. Spend an afternoon giving the inside of the new fender a POR15 treatment before going to the body shop and you'll be way ahead. Even "rust free" on a used fender doesn't mean "won't bubble with rust tomorrow". -Curt Date: Fri, 1 Jun 2012 06:03:29 -0700 From: G Mann To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] 123 fenders - replace or restore? It those establishments were autobody shops then being reputable will not change anything. Body shops have no idea how to correctly repair rust. It needs to be taken to a high end restoration shop. How bad is the rust? Big rust would require lots of shop time to fix, and sourcing fresh fender might be less costly. Second the new fender. I have not priced a fender for a 123 lately, but give Q a chance. Last I knew 124 fenders and 126 fenders were just a little over $100 each. 123 now being "classic center" status may have changed the prices. If they are now $500, then rustfree used or repair may be cheaper. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

If rust can be repaired properly without removing fender then I'd opt for that. Fender removal means removal of that undercoating stuff which is a job in itself. That might also predispose to future rust if not prepped and re- undercoated properly. Sent from my iPhone On May 31, 2012, at 4:17 PM, clay monroe wrote: How bad is the rust?
