Re: [MBZ] Car breakin
One little non lethal surprise I installed with some great success is a homemade laser system. The on trigger is motion sensors [Home Depot item] and the suprise is a set of lasers [dollar store cat toys, cheap, battery operated, but with a good 150 ft range], and a few small cosmetic mirrors [the little round ones women like to carry in purse]. When the unsuspecting perp breaches the kill zone and triggers one of the motion sensors it switches on the laser banks and suddenly there is a maze of red and green lasers that cut through the night and make the place look like fort knox in the matirx movie. The whole setup cost me less than $60 and a few hours of free time [nothing good on TV anyway]. Next I want to slave in a recording of the slide action of a pump 12 gage and a very firm voice that says freeze, now on your knees and lace your fingers behind your head. [or maybe, just maybe, it won't be a recording, you get to decide] You know, just for fun... right? Grant... My Dad claimed to have used an old Model A vibrator ignition coil to shock people when they would touch the car. I'm not totally familiar with these older ignition systems, but I assume it would work since the car is not grounded but a perp might be, depending on the type of shoe they were wearing. I'm not totally familiar with these older ignition systems, but I assume it would work since the car is not grounded but a perp might be, depending on the type of shoe they were wearing. When your Dad was doing things, it was most likely before compounds were added to make tires conductive and before rubber-soled shoes became popular. Nowadays, with the tires being conductive (maybe some will remember the old-time grounding straps that were attached to cars to bleed off the static electricity that developed on cars) and shoes being insulating, it won't work as well. That was all the rage in the sixties and had one on my 53 Ford. I remember I had to have a chain on the ground for it to work. The coil was also adjustable so you could set the degree of shock you wanted to provide. Fun and games at the local drive in especially when the ground was wet! If you shop around you should be able to put together such a system for not to much that will record direct to digital disk and a picture says a thousand words when it comes time for a perp walk to the court house. The cost will be less than repair of one car, and over the next years you will get lots of video of yourself walking your dog, but the one time your night visitor comes back it will all pay off. Sorry to hear about this Wilton, unfortunately I am not able to use the language on this list to properly describe the lowlifes responsible for this crime. Bit of a kick in the guts, you spend most of your life protecting your country and some slack arse druggie does this. Sometimes I think a get tough approach should be used, none of this good behaviour bonds, suspended sentence or whatever. Straight to the army for a 3 year stint. Jail only seems to teach them how to be better criminals and connect with other lowlifes. Makes you wonder what they where expecting to find in your cars? Spose they thought that Merc owners leave a few hundred dollars in the glove box, just in case. Gold bars in the boot? Some sorry SOB broke into both of my cars last night probably about 10 to 10:30pm. About that time, I heard three muffled bumps. 'Thought it was neighbor activity at some condominiums to my west. SWMBO went out to cars at 1PM today and found the damages to both. Black 91 350SDL has broken rear windshield, broken left rear window, broken center console sliding door (it wasn't even locked), and severely bent/distorted trunk lid; interior of car ransacked. White 87 300D has broken right rear little triangular window, three pry marks along lower edge of trunk; lower panel at rear of trunk lid slightly distorted; interior ransacked. 'Don't think the SOB gained entry to the trunks - their interiors appear untouched. 'Don't think anything of value was taken from either car. Other than my mobility scooter in 300D trunk, I try not to leave anything of value in the cars. The stupid SOB did not seem to realize that after he had unlocked either of the front doors on both cars, all he needed to do to enter trunks was to punch the trunk buttons. SOB also broke into outbuilding/shop; 'took several hand tools and tried to take John Deere lawn tractor - probably left it because of 2 flat tires and a locking cable with master lock on it.
