All it takes is some idiot 'engineer' who uses these as logic inputs
to a computer in order to COMPLETELY miss the point of safety engineering.

These are the same folks who probably will be making self-driving cars.

These three microswitches were all wired into a black box - no idea of how they
were wired beyond that. I can say that the cover is nice steel with a good
paint job - it will be used someday for something.

There is something criminally wrong with the design of that oven, if that
kind of single failure resulted in a containment failure. The chain is
supposed to be fail-SAFE, in that all failures result in failure to cook,
rather than ever cooking the environment.

The designs I've looked at all have three different microswitches in electrical
series, thus ALL have to say 'go' before the magnetron is powered.

1: Door closed.
2: Door latched.
3: Start button pushed.

All three have to fail, opposite their normal state, in order to pump microwaves
out into the world.

Re: [MBZ] Fw: 2011 Mercedes C300 4 matic - Genuine Mercedes Spark Plug Question ADDED

2023-12-12 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
StarParts are a separate product line that Mercedes came up with to continue to
provide maintenance parts for older models. For example, if you go to a dealer
to buy an oil filter for a car with an M112, you can’t get an “official” MB
part - that’s a “gray box” part. You’ll get a StarPart filter in a white box.

The “gray box” parts no longer exist, they will now supersede to a StarPart
part.

According to Mercedes, all remains the same, they just separate these out now
to provide and equal but less expensive options. Maybe this is to compete with
the aftermarket, who knows?

I purchased 6 Genuine Mercedes Spark Plugs from FCP Euro for $86.00.   I then
saw on Ebay 6 Genuine Mercedes Benz Spark Plugs for my car for $21.00 and
decided to order those too to see if there was any difference.
FCP Euro - Genuine Mercedes Part #A 004 159 49 03 90 - Made in Japan (Unknown)
- $86Ebay -         Genuine Mercedes Part #A 004 159 18 03 26 - Made in Japan

Craig, After talking with you, I did some research on the model number.

I believe it is S-211 which is the station wagon for the E class from
2005-2009. It is a 2005 E500 wagon --4matic. I am looking for a right
side catalytic converter since it has both left and right side catalytic

That is caused by improper toe angle on the rear suspension. You need a four
wheel alignment done at a competent shop. Competent shops are getting hard to
find.

[MBZ] Fw: 2011 Mercedes C300 4Matic Sport - Tire Recommendations *ADDED QUESTIONS*

2023-07-24 Thread Robert Koziak via Mercedes
  Dan,
The shop manager said the tires were wearing in a way that indicated it
needed shocks?  Does that make sense to you?  I should probably get a second
opinion on that too!
A few weeks ago I drove the car and it was making a humming noise in the
rear which was diagnosed by one mechanic as a bad wheel bearing.  I took the
car to a second mechanic who checked the car and said the wheel bearings were
fine but it needed new tires which would fix the problem.  The second mechanic
had the car on a lift and showed me if you run your hands around the tire it
has high spots which cause the noise.
The car needed new tires so I had them installed today at Sams Club and the
noise disappeared!!
I am sure the front rims do need replacing because there was a very show
leak from one of the tires that was coming from the bead.  My daughter hit
every pothole in NYC !  I had it remounted and it is fine for now.
  Thanks for the quick reply.

I would have questions as to how they determined that your rear shocks were
bad. Shocks are rarely replaced on MBs, they can often go for 200k and still
work properly.

If you want to be exact, check the part numbers on the front wheels and do an
eBay search for them. Or, see if you can find a reputable wheel repair shop in
your area. There's one in Tampa that can fix bent rims, weld, etc., etc., and
guarantee their work as new. Last time I used them it was around $200/wheel
which included refinishing. Anything you find used will likely need
refinishing, and may not be true, either.

Hi All,
I had Continental Extreme Contact tires installed at Sam's Club a few minutes
ago.  They tested the sensors and they were fine but suggested I get
two new front rims.  New York City potholes took a toll on them and are
slightly bent.  In addition they said the rear shocks need replacement.  They
only do tire installments which gives them more creditability when making
repair recommendations.
The rims on the front and rear are different sizes.  Any suggestions on where
to purchase the front rims?  Also I have been buying my parts from FPC Euro and
they have quite a few choices for rear shocks.  Thoughts on replacement shocks?
Thanks!

Used car pricing has gone up dramatically. It's kind of frustrating actually,
if you are in the market for a car. Even crap boxes are going for two grand.
This looks like a pretty good car. Check the usual wear items and beat them up
over it. Motor mounts, window regulators, trans issues, valve cover leaks, tune
up, power steering hoses, etc.

[MBZ] FW: Forget Newton and Galileo! Here are the REAL LAWS of NATURE!

2020-06-13 Thread Craig via Mercedes
FROM ACTUAL EXPERIENCE!

 1. Law of Mechanical Repair - After your hands become coated with grease,
your nose will begin to itch and you'll have to pee.

 2. Law of Gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll
to the least accessible corner.

 3. Law of Probability - The probability of being watched is directly
proportional to the stupidity of your act.

 4. Law of Random Numbers - If you dial a wrong number, you never get a
busy signal and someone always answers.

 5. Supermarket Law - As soon as you get in the smallest line, the cashier
will have to call for help.

 6. Variation Law - If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you
were in will always move faster than the one you are in now.

 7. Law of the Bath - When your body is fully immersed in water, the
telephone rings.

 8. Law of Close Encounters - The probability of meeting someone you know
increases dramatically when you are with someone you don't want to be
seen with.

 9. Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine
won't work, it will.

10. Law of Biomechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely
proportional to the reach.

11. Law of the Theatre & Hockey Arena - At any event, the people whose
seats are furthest from the aisle always arrive last. They are the
ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer,
or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance
or the game is over.

12. Law of the Theatre & Hockey Arena Corollary - The folks in the aisle
seats come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big
bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle
people also are very surly folk.

13. The Coffee Law - As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your
boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is
cold.

14. Murphy's Law of Lockers - If there are only 2 people in a locker
room, they will have adjacent lockers.

15. Law of Physical Surfaces - The chances of an open-faced jam sandwich
landing face down on a floor, are directly correlated to the newness
and cost of the carpet or rug.

16. Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible if you don't know what
you are talking about.

17. Brown's Law of Physical Appearance - If the clothes fit, they're ugly.

18. Oliver's Law of Public Speaking - A closed mouth gathers no feet.

19. Wilson's Law of Commercial Marketing Strategy - As soon as you find a
product that you really like, they will stop making it.

19. Doctors' Law - If you don't feel well and make an appointment to go to
the doctor, by the time you get there you'll feel better. But if you
don't make an appointment you'll stay sick. This has been proven over
and over with taking children to the pediatrician.

Can you think of any more?

Course based on a book with the same name by Victor Davis Hanson. There are a
series of Hanson interviews on YouTube. Like all movies/videos the book is
richer but the vids are great too:
www.youtube.com/results?search_query=victor+davis+hanson+the+second+world+wars+

For the last 75 years, the world enjoyed unprecedented prosperity and peace
because of World Order created after and because of WWII.

[MBZ] Fw: A turning point for Allied victory

2020-06-06 Thread Craig via Mercedes
For those who are interested in WWII.

The on-line free courses are available at https://online.hillsdale.edu.

From: "Larry P. Arnn"
Subject: A turning point for Allied victory

Dear friend,

On this day in 1944, the largest seaborne invasion in history took place
on the beaches of Normandy as members of the Allied Powers stormed the
coastline to fight against Nazi Germany.

This invasion was a key turning point for Allied victory in the Second
World War, and it was a heroic—and costly—effort.

One way to honor the brave soldiers who fought in World War II is to
study the conflict itself—its causes, the strategies used, and its
implications on the present day.

To this end, Hillsdale College has produced an online course about the
war, titled “The Second World Wars.” Many of your fellow Hillsdale
supporters—116,882—have already enrolled. This course is free, just like
all of the College’s online courses.

We’ve heard from many of our friends that wish to receive the course in
DVD format. So I wanted to let you know that “The Second World Wars”
course
(https://info.hillsdale.edu/e2t/sc2/Mm-nFbkzv4cW8Xc4mb9lv_tKW7LkdhF81ySSyW9h9dxR6z_5vCf1HVPN203
 )
is also available as a DVD boxed set for your home library or to give as
a gift.

The DVD set provides an analysis of Allied and Axis investments and
strategies in the air, on land, and at sea that led to the victory of the
Allies.

I’ve included a secure link below where you can get this special edition
of “The Second World Wars” on DVD. Supplies are limited.

https://info.hillsdale.edu/e2t/sc2/Mm-nFbkzv4cW8Xc4mb9lv_tKW7LkdhF81ySSyW9h9dxR6z_5vCf1HVPN213
(https://info.hillsdale.edu/e2t/sc2/Mm-nFbkzv4cW8Xc4mb9lv_tKW7LkdhF81ySSyW9h9dxR6z_5vCf1HVPN223
 )

I hope you find this course as important and as fascinating as I do.

The strength and bravery of American soldiers during one of the darkest
times in human history reminds me of how proud I am to be an American.

We owe our thanks to those who served and still serve.

Warm regards,

Larry P. Arnn

No, no rod bender but possible cracked head.  It has a repaint, trunk
badges not in the right location, could be nice but price is too high.

That and it’s got both ortho seats and the reinforced seat options, too. Both
pretty rare. You can see the lever for the ortho seat option on the side of the
passenger seat. It’s manual, so no pesky bladders or pumps to deal with.

It’s just cosmetics on this chassis, has nothing to do with performance. Purely
a marketing ploy to draw in those who would otherwise go to eBay and buy an AMG
badge for the trunk.

Not a bad looking car, though, if you’re looking for a nice V8 sedan of this

Unlike sand sprayed with compressed air, which makes silicosis laden air
and a health hazard, Dustless does not produce that.

The glass particles along with the removed paint is best handled by laying
down a cheap "one use tarp" and weight or tape down the edges. When the car
or item is stripped, roll it off the tarp and roll the tarp up with the
paint and media as a package, then dispose of the tarp "container" properly.

If you had a car or whatever item that was properly prepped I can see it being
a hella labor saving operation. Yes, you would have to spray sanding sealer to
protect the surfaces, but that’s easily removed as you do the prep.

I just wonder who has to clean up all the little piles of crushed bottle glass
dust when it’s over?

To be honest, while the blaster is awesome I'm not sure how much of a labor
saving device it is since you have to seal within 72 hours, then sand
before you prime, etc.

Re: [MBZ] FW: 1963 Mercedes Benz 220E

2020-04-26 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Thanks for asking.. I'm not a franchisee.

I just like the process and became enamored with it enough to almost buy
out a fellow here who wanted to retire and had a full mobile rig and client
base..
After much deliberation, I decided it was "another business" and it would
extend my energies to thin to take it on... Still like the process and how
well it works.

Re: [MBZ] FW: 1963 Mercedes Benz 220E

2020-04-26 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Correct. At the end of removal of the paint down to bare metal the whole
car is washed down with a hand sprayer using some sort of water based
material that neutralizes the bare metal and retards flash rust for about
72 hours, which is time enough to spray on a coat of sealer.

Sealer will sand off easily to permit body repairs for damaged areas, then
reseal those areas... Sand the sealer, primer, sand the primer, finish
coats, dry and cure, sand the finish coat to flat, then polish to
perfection... same old , same old...
Big difference is, you get to start with clean metal, rather than try to
sand down all previous bad work to get a good base to paint...
Three years ago, I came within two heartbeats of buying a complete
operation for Dustless blasting here, so had the chance to see it done, and
to do it, with the equipment... Hands down, much better than sand blasting,
which I had used and done in the past.

Here is a video that may give you answers to what they are using in the
Dustless process.

I’ve seen this before. One thing I didn’t catch was that they spray or apply
something after blasting to protect the metal, or so it sounds, but I haven’t
been able to figure out what.

Having that much bare metal exposed is going to be an issue if you don’t have a
way to stabilize the surface in short order.

It is a perfect candidate for paint removal to bare metal, door jams and
all. If the mechanical bones are truly good, and there is no rust. Followed
by a proper repaint in a good solid color that would go with the interior
color..
Est: $4,000.00 for repaint [Didn't Mercedes have a nice rich dark blue for
that year?

Interior wood issues:
Rework with proper wood and attention to fine detail. That would truly be a
labor of love and craftsmanship... However, seems there is enough there for
patterns.

Window trim screws: Appear to me to be snaps for a snap on car cover to sun
shade the windows and interior, perhaps... Since the snaps are into the
window trim, replacement trim would be necessary., another cost [I have no
idea if new would be available anywhere in the world.]

It is after all, a Finnie... likely worth saving.. complete and running...
Just be brave and have a good size workshop for the next 2 years, and a
good case of "deep wallet"...
