Re: [MBZ] GL Adventure
It seemed to be a bit of tail wag dog although I thought I had the load distributed ok. Not too bad but I could feel some instability. The ML doesn’t feel that way when I tow cars with it so maybe the longer wheelbase or something. I don’t know if it has a built-in brake controller or not but I did notice the light on the brake box on the trailer was on when I got home (was getting dark) so maybe it does have one in the system. I’ll have to look into that more. That would be good. I’ll look at the brake rotors and see if they were worn down any. --FT Sent from iFōn > On Feb 22, 2023, at 10:04 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > > How did it tow? Was is pretty stable? Re: [MBZ] GL fuel tank capacity
My kids did that constantly. So annoying to go out to the car, needing to get somewhere, and find the "low fuel" light on. Worse because the closest fuel station is also one of the most expensive in the area. The usual justifcation was "well the computer says 20 miles until empty" so there was enough gas to get back to the station. I told them when they were stranded with a burned-out fuel pump they were on the hook for the towing and the repairs. Fortunately (?) it never happened. Check them all, write the Amps down near the battery or measuring point, so if you think they might be getting slow in the future, you have a reference number. Re: [MBZ] GL 642 starter
On my Volvo XC90 the battery is in the very back of the car, under the floor just in front of the tailgate. Even with a brand new battery I think the starter sounds slower than what I am used to in other cars. I think part of it is that with only 12V and a 10 foot distance (maybe more, allowing for routing of the cable) you're just going to have some losses unless your cabling is the size of a garden hose. It would basically be impossible. The starter would have to be removed and readjusted (pointed down) to get at the connections on the starter to check or remove. [MBZ] GL 642 starter
So you all recall I did some testing due to car turning over slow. I had figured it was time for a replacement starter but the 2 year old battery tested bad, so I replaced it with a new AGM battery. It seemed to turn over faster the other day but still not as fast as I figure it should. Starter still drawing about 300 amps. Yesterday the wife left and it was probably around 20 outside. She said it cycled thru 2 keyless go starts but timed out. Took the button out and used key and started it. Earlier today with it around 30 outside, she left, and it turned over very slowly with first cycle before timing out. 2nd cycle it finally started. I am thinking I am probably going to have to go ahead with the starter replacement anyway. As mentioned before, I can't really even see it from above, or below while its on the lift. Looking at the procedure in WIS it basically appears as if you have to get it up on the lift, support engine with engine support fixture (which I don't have), remove engine mount and engine mount arm? This is going to be a whore of a job. Re: [MBZ] GL amp draw
0.01 = 1/100 of an amp, that is acceptable and sounds like normal. 0.06 is also not too bad. Sure hope this isn't "fixing" itself while you are looking. Follow Jim's advice, put some remote measuring device on it so you can close up all the doors and hood, and then let it sit for awhile to see if it goes away. Probably need to start the car up and drive it around, then park and leave it alone to see what happens. - Max Charleston SC On Sat, Jun 19, 2021 at 12:38 PM Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > I finished doing the rear fuse box. Re: [MBZ] GL amp draw
SWMBO's Infiniti has an alarm system that stays on high alert if anything is open, like the trunk or hood. I was diagnosing a high current drain, decided to ask online in a forum before I spent hours pulling fuses, and got an immediate answer to close all the doors and trunk and then tape down the hood switch so the alarm system thought the hood was closed, and THEN check the current draw. It was normal. - Max Charleston SC On Sat, Jun 19, 2021 at 12:26 PM dan penoff.com via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > W210s go to sleep after 30 minutes or so. > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Dig online first, figure out what the common reasons are, and try those. You may get lucky. Maybe some computer somewhere thinks it needs to keep working day and night. Radio amp staying on, or something easy like that. Would be nice if someone made a meter adapter for those blade fuses, so you could pull a fuse, stick the adapter in the slot, and immediately see if that circuit is the culprit. What would be really madenning would be a fault such that pulling the fuse will cure the fault, so when you try to measure the draw on that fuse location, you get a normal (probably zero) reading. Modern cars don't like to sit for very long without being driven. Too much parasitic load on the battery. Your charging system is suspect. Low battery voltage will cause all sorts of weirdness. [MBZ] GL transfer case
I curse the person who came up with the driveshaft connection on these things. It's easy to get to, but impossible to get the rear drive shaft to clear the transfer case. I buggered but the end cap that holds the grease in when removing it. Got it bend sort of straight and was able to get it back on the driveshaft. Anyway, I got a used care off eBay out of a 09 GL with 70k miles. When it arrived it looked almost brand new. Got it wrestled back into place, ended up having to drop the drive shaft center support mount to get just enough slack to get the shaft back connected to the case. Got it all put back together and took it for a drive. No more bad grinding/rattling under acceleration. I was worried I was going to pick up some drive shaft vibration but I took it up to 60 and seems smooth. I sure as hell do not get why they changed to these star type bolts, thru just seem cheap to me plus I had to get a new set of sockets for these. Now on to the next project. I have a good feeling this was what was wrong with Wilts sons car. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post. Re: [MBZ] Gl and the deer
I have related this story in the past, which I remember from being a teenager. We were visiting my mother's friend who was a nurse, and related the story that she was driving to work one morning at like 5AM in her VW bug. Comes around a curve and there is a mule in the road, which she hits and proceeds on a bit until stopped. She gets out to see what had happened, the mule had rolled up and over the bug and landed back on its feet, was sorta shaking off the experience and ambled off. The bug was undamaged other than some mule hair. She was rattled but given the animal and the car were OK proceeded on to work. This story made an awesome impression on me. --R On 11/20/2012 7:51 PM, Michael Canfield wrote: Drive a Saab...the odd shape is supposed to be designed to handle moose hits. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Time to send it to the okie acres back lot! 11k would buy 22 kaleb cars! Initial estimate 11k in damage to repair the gl deer damage. Shop said will most likely find more damage after they tear into it. Going into a MB certified shop. Sent from my iPhone Must be a mighty expensive hood and fender. That was little damage for a bambi. hit on a corner is a light hit. Some of em are so big and heavy that they require frame straightening and such, and that generally results in the vehicle being totalled. The prior van took out 4 bambis. The last one resulted in the van being totalled. Only one SWMBO got while I owned it, but that took out the van.

That thing would get some ebay body panels and such and I would have a pocket full of money. Paint it nice, keep it insured well and aim for another bigger deer. Re: [MBZ] Gl and the deer
Bambi is nothing, you want damage go hit Bullwinkle. A really small moose is as big as a really big deer. Hit a 1200# moose and you don't care about the car, the question is Did anybody survive? -Curt Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2012 18:11:20 -0600 From: Dieselhead 126die...@gmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] Gl and the deer Message-ID: a06240828ccd1cb553e35@[192.168.1.70] Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii ; format=flowed Time to send it to the okie acres back lot! 11k would buy 22 kaleb cars!
