2016-08-29 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Y'all are missing the whole point of this subject! The issue is not the
filter itself; rather, the K sticker! Affixing it to your ride is
GUARANTEED to give you a performance boost! It fits any car, truck,
bus, or aircraft, it is a universal performance booster! It is
FILTER-CHARGED!

I think K filters are garbage, but they do enhance performance at the
expense of less filtration.

Ah! You are talking about rapid increase in engine RPM. I was
referring to power output - sustained.

So, if you man "it takes longer for the turbo to build pressure"
rather than "it takes longer for the turbo to spool" - I fully
agree.

So a less restrictive filter results in faster spool. I also
found that top end performance was improved, with a higher max
rpm at max throttle. Is isn't even subtle. Taking off from a
stoplight is a different experience.

Hmm. That doesn't match my experience with various diesel turbo
engines. But if your experiences were otherwise, who am I to argue!

Yes, simple test, resulting in numbers to determine the gain. No gain with no
filter = no gain with K filter. K Hot air intake set up may cause worse

Cleaning out the garage I found a K filter I had bought for my old
Blazer and I don't think I ever used it. But out of the box dropped a

sticker:

K
FilterCharged!

Putting this sticker on your car will definitely make it faster, esp a
240D. It's not too big but it is the message that counts. I will send
it to the first to reply with a "I want it"

I put an early K model in my R75/5 years ago. They work as long as
you keep them oiled and clean it often. I still think it was better
than paying the price for the BMW air filters, and it did breathe
easier. My MB at the time had an oil bath air filter and it cost me
maybe 30¢ to change where the BMW filter was $6 or $8 back then. I
still prefer oil bath air filters. But the stealers find it more
profitable to sell you a $25 filter than nothing.
